In The New Order, you are an agent for the Curio Society and this time you are matching wits with Frederick, a scientist who has perfected a potion to rid people of their emotions – good and bad. Not only is Frederick intent on ridding the world of emotions he has enlisted the aid of your nemesis Susanna who was expelled from the Curio Society for her traitorous acts. Susanna has a score to settle and Frederick offers her the perfect opportunity to wreak havoc for the society. Can you even imagine what it would be like to live in a world of no emotions, where you felt no love or joy? You will need to act fast and use your brain to prevent this outrage from happening; one that could possible change the course of history.
The game offers a custom mode but, IMHO, it is rather useless. The graphics are excellent but the voice acting is flat because the game depicts an emotionless society with rather robotic people. As you move through the game you do meet more interesting characters who have avoided becoming emotionless. You have an interactive transporter type map that at times is very helpful.
The HOP scenes are very good and most of them are quite interactive. Most scenes rely on finding items by silhouette but the silhouettes are good so it is easy to determine what item should be found. For those of you who would rather not search for items there is a match 3 option included in each scene. Even though the HOPS are good the puzzles are almost too easy with very little challenge required to solve them.
The Curio Society games have never been ones that thrill me so I was very surprised that the game was as great as it turned out. I gave the game a mediocre rating and a less than glowing review when the CE was released but in a moment of weakness I ended up purchasing the game. Wow, it is so much better than I suspected and is without a doubt the best one of the series. The storyline was very good and the gameplay was quite a bit of fun. It is such a shame that the game starts off fairly slow and is bogged down by finding fiddly little items to make any progress but once the momentum picks up the game became excellent. My apologies to the developer for such a bad review the first time around that was based more on my feeling about the previous games than it was on The New Order. If you are looking for a really good HOPA game with great HOPA scenes and good puzzles, please try the demo because you might enjoy this one. Show less

I really enjoyed playing this game.
The HOS were varied and fun. I loved finding morphing objects in the HOS before getting your list of times. I enjoy the HOS where you find two of different objects. They really tried to change things out to make it more fun.
The graphics were clear and colorful, which made each scene nice to look at. Overall just a well made game.

Good solid game with some unique hidden object features, i.e. there is one with a light switch to go from one scene to another; you also have to find morphing objects before you learn what hidden objects to find. There are good puzzles - matching one side of a book to another. There is a Task book that also carries notes you find along the way. The graphics are good.

I was highly skeptical when reading the summary for this game, but was pleasantly surprised by how well executed this game is.
The plot development, level of challenge in HOG and puzzles, and special effects fall short of 5-stars, but overall, all the elements of gameplay are very good.
Most people would enjoy this game, except for Expert level players who would not be very challenged.
I recommend this game!

It keeps you moving forward and keeps the story from getting lost.
I'm not sure if the game is a bit short or I was just having so much fun it went by quickly, either way, it was well worth the 2.99 I paid for it!! I'm so glad I found this yesterday it gave me a day worth of enjoyment!!!

Imagine a world without laughter and without joy. Now imagine a world without pain without suffering, without crime without hatred. This is the world Frederick had envisioned, a world with no emotions, bad or good. A world where no one had to suffer or feel pain, a world where everyone was equal. Together with the help of Susanna, a rogue agent from The Curio Society (again using an antique shop for cover) Frederick's dreams will come true now that this dynamic duo has a powerful artifact in their possession! This artifact is capable of amplifying the effects of anything it is applied to, including the Anti-Emotion Potion that renders its users emotionless! You must join the forces of the resistance to stop Frederick's nefarious plans, after all, Leroy Johnson, the man responsible for creating the potion as well as the antidote, formed the resistance together with his wife, Alice. Can you stop Frederick from creating the Not So Perfect Emotionless World in time?
I wasn't impressed with the first game in this series, and I'm certainly not impressed with this middle of the road game either. Both games offer nothing new or exciting, both games seem a bit lame in my opinion. The Collector's Edition version offers a whopping 32 Achievements to earn making it nearly impossible to make a move without earning one. The CE also offers two icons above the inventory bar that will indicate whether or not that scene has a Morphing Object and or a Collectible Rorschach Card, some scenes contain one of each, some scenes only have one or the other and some scenes have neither. You will also find Medical Profiles in the CE that describe different emotions such as Apathy or Euphoria. At the beginning of the game you will be given a journal with available Tasks, and throughout the game you'll find Journal Notes that are automatically added to your journal, this feature is available in both the Collector's and Standard Edition's. In my opinion none of these "extras" are actually hidden or difficult to find, they're just sitting in plain view within the scenes and present no challenge whatsoever.
The Hidden Object Scenes are okay, again nothing new or remotely creative. There are the usual Progressive Interactive Silhouetted shape finds, Silhouetted Shape finds requiring several of the same items, Morphing Object Finds, and items that match the Keywords in each paragraph. The only one I thought was unusual had a switch that turned on a blacklight and panned to the rear of the scene, switching back to the front of the scene with a dimly lit regular light.
The Mini Games are okay, but once again I feel they lack imagination and creativity, they all seem to be variations of choosing correctly because choosing one affects others. Below are brief descriptions of some of the games you'll encounter during the demo:
1) Restore the portrait by swapping pie shaped sections.
2) Click on typewriter keys with fingerprints in the correct sequence.
3) Use levers to rotate rows of test tubes to position the correct colored liquids above the tubes, rotating one row affects others.
4) Find matching pairs of symbols by flipping over two tokens at a time. If you fail to make a match, the tokens will swap.
5) Follow the recipe in the correct sequence.
6) Restore the image using arrows to adjust rows.
7) Flip switches to open the central cache, flipping one switch may affect others.
8) Locate objects in the picture mentioned in the story and click to adjust the images to match.
9) Glide the slider from the far left to the lower right passing through every one of the gears one time only.
The Collector's Edition has 32 Achievements to earn, 12 Wallpapers, 10 Concept Art pictures, 5 Music Soundtracks, 10 Collectible Rorschach Cards for a Personality Test, Collectible Medical Profiles and Journal Notes, 15 Morphing Objects, an Archive Room, a built in Strategy Guide and a Bonus Chapter. I bought the game based on good reviews and playing the demo. In fact, the demo was pretty good, but it's all downhill from there. I attempted to complete this game three times, and it just kept getting more asinine and stupid. For example, a chemist arrives from headquarters in a hot-air balloon after you manage to assemble a flare gun from separate pieces you find so you can "pinpoint" your location. He hands you a single (uncapped) test tube of acid which you just happen to be able to use immediately to melt a lock, and then he disappears. But it's okay because you come across some mechanical fireflies that can unlock any lock. Well, at least you aren't going to capture them in a jar to make a lantern. Or maybe you will. I wouldn't know, because it was at that point that I quit and deleted the game. Show less
