I Love a Murder Mystery Game!

A murder mystery! One with a human (sure hope it stays that way) perpetrator! Do you know how rare those are? Very! No angry spirit awoken from the depths.... no vengeful witch "eating" souls.

A human murderer! A normal location! Actual reasonable tasks! YES!

So, a death has occurred. The first thing, was it suicide like the island residents say, and hope? We investigate and look for evidence to photograph. There is an evidence board, with tabs for "residents," "filed evidence," and "un-filed evidence." When enough evidence is posted under "un-filed" we make deductions.

I found the graphics fine, clear and fitting the locations. The characters were well brought out. No lags or glitches during play. The poor reviews are baffling to me.

As per the newer HOG, there are more puzzles than HOS. Nothing extremely hard, but not numbingly easy.

PUZZLES:
* restore two torn photos
* turn 3 pyramid pieces to form image
* enter code to open another puzzle, where you follow a sequence of symbols, making a path
* deducing from evidence, "What happened?"
* match the alibis given (so pay attention when you interview!)
* rearrange triangles to form picture (this kind always stumps me!)

HOS: nice lists, and a really good progressive one (the model) containing a mini.

COLLECTIBLES are a disappointment. Much too large, "in your face" out front. And, why those? I haven't found out if there's a reason.

What I noticed straight off, was why such a skimpy game description? It's like they don't really want to promote it!

This game is a definite buy for me It's something different, and it seems for all the asking I see players want, when we get it players find they didn't really mean it!

So, who "dun" it? I for one will be more than happy to play this game and find out! Show less

To me the story-line is always the most important aspect of a game. I enjoyed it immensely

I loved every moment of this game from start to finish...and it's a lengthy mystery clocking in at around five (5) hours of gameplay and another hour for the bonus game. I gave this game 5 stars for it was excellent for all categories.

I was overjoyed that the storyline was a "whodunnit". A creative story that kept me engaged. Darn clever and the game offered a lot of hunt and seek opportunities, The map was useful.

The only criticism about the game is, if you are in a puzzle, and need to look at the guide for reference, you have to come out of the puzzle, in order to access the guide, which was irritating, other than that I enjoyed the game.

You do all the work as usual, the Inspector just interviews everyone, you have to find out how and why the guy turns up dead, (I'm sorry about then lack of name, I just can't remember it), it's a twist in the tale.
You are centred in the mansion, and have to go to different locations within the mansion, until you get to the Bonus game.
and obviously there's all sorts of puzzles you have to do, some favourites, such as joining the wheels, but not over crossing lines, they I love doing.
Great story line, and the graphics and figures and the voices are great, I really enjoyed playing it Show less

No Magic... No Heroine... No Fairies... No Spirits and Demons or other dimensions. Classical investigation work. I've been waiting for this type of games for a long time now.

I really enjoyed that it was not supernatural! One can only do so many spirits and realms. Simple story line of whodunit.

Here we have a murder mystery, with no paranormal explanations at all. I am sidekick to a great detective - who usually leaves all the work to me, but that's alright, because I'm good at it. It has nice artwork, interesting scenes, middle of the road HOs, a not complicated "white board" where clues are put together, and a satisfying ending. The bonus game is a continuation of the story, and not a lame prequel as happens so often. With the exception of some buggy controls meaning hot spots didn't show up easily, I played without any trouble and was sorry to see it end. I will definitely play this game again. Show less

I am happy to report that this game does not have even a smidgeon of anything remotely connected to the paranormal. There were no chants, rituals, ghosts, demons, or witches!

So what does this game have? It has a really good detective story in which we play the detective and find clues. We interrogate suspects and establish alibis. I found the game to be very interesting. It was fun playing detective.

I finished the whole game, including the bonus. It is a very long game. I did use the map sometimes, because once in awhile there was an object in the inventory that wasn't used for awhile and I had to travel back through several scenes to find where it went. Mostly, though the inventory items were used pretty quick.

The graphics were very good. I thought the lighthouse display was cool. There were some cute gargoyles in one part that I liked, especially the incorporation of one of the mini-games using the gargoyles. Super awesome!

There were not as many mini-games in this game as I like (I love them to be in every scene) but it was still fun. Show less

My only problem was the chief Detective who was a bit of a git, talking very loudly to his assistant and repeating something like “We’ll talk more when we have evidence” over and over again in a loud voice. The only time he spoke in a normal voice is when he swanned in and presented all the evidence (that the assistant had procured). Definitely a git.
The game as a whole is excellent though, with lots of clues and a meandering path to find the truth. I really enjoyed it.
