Another great (although more of the same) Mosaic tile game. There are 6 Locations: Brazilian Carnival, The Day of the Dragon, The Festival of Masks, The Solstice Celebration, The Festival of Ganesha, and A Night in Venice. Another great (although more of the same) Mosaic tile game. There are 6 Locations: Brazilian Carnival, The Day of the Dragon, The Festival of Masks, The Solstice Celebration, The Festival of Ganesha, and A Night in Venice. There are 16 different Trophies to earn which are basically achievements such as finishing 3 or 5 games in a row (raw) without using the available hints. With the coins you earn in each level you can visit the shop and use these coins to purchase 2 starting hints, rights for a mistake x 3, and refill hints on this level. If you haven't played griddlers before I know it looks difficult, but there is a very good tutorial and this is a basic game of deduction, rather than math. For instance in a 10 x 10 grid you start with the largest number, each number of cells must have a space between each group of numbers. If the numbers are 2 1 3 1 there would only be one solution in a cell of 10 tiles because of the spaces between the tiles. If you left click, the cell will be marked with a colored tile and right clicking will mark the cell with an x or empty cell until a simple picture of a mask or a dragon is completed. There is some very soothing music to accompany this game and to me it's a brain teaser game that is actually quite relaxing. You should really give this game a try, enjoy! Show less

Even I’m impressed. Yes, it is another serving of identically structured 8 Floor fare, this time of the pictograph puzzles. But the theme, backgrounds and most especially music, create a whole new feel absent from their previous offerings.

SIGHTS & SOUNDS
The pix are gorgeous. With 6 carnivals to attend around the world, we have 6 masks and themed backgrounds of (for 8 Floor) astonishingly beautiful images. Likewise, the music varies according to where the carnival is set. It is also wonderful! The atmosphere is totally unlike the bland tasteless games I, at least, have come to expect. It is not a wide screen game, but at least it has wallpaper on the sides.

GAMEPLAY
I promised in previous reviews to give more time and energy towards doing an in-depth and original review, the day 8 Floor released an original game. While this is still the same structure as all their games, at least the theme gives us a breath of fresh air, so I will encourage further adventurous modifications, by commenting more on this one.

Griddlers are also known as pictographs. They involve creating an image in tiles by following a series of numerical clues at the beginning of the columns and rows. Even if you have not played this kind of puzzle before, it is easy to get a basic understanding within a few riddles. They start out easy, and get progressively more complex as you progress.

Although they are supposed to produce pictures, these riddles have only the barest resemblance to an image, and my imagination pretty much defeats me. Most of them, I simply do not know what they are supposed to be.

8 Floor are renowned for their tough stand early into these games. You are only allowed 2 mistakes and 1 hint at the beginning. Later, they are not so tough, and you can buy more options if you want.

There are 6 festivals, and 20 masks in each, for a total of 120 levels. Each level has a 3 star system of ratings. You require a certain number of stars in each festival before you can move to the next. But a perfect score is not necessary, and you can repeat any level to improve your star rating.

The stars are granted based on 3 different measures:

1. Number of coins earned
2. Time taken to complete
3. Use of hint and mistakes

One feature I don’t remember seeing before, and which is a most welcome addition, is a ‘cancel action’ area in the top left corner (it is hard to spot). You can drag your cursor to this spot if you have started an action and realise that it is wrong. In the past, you would sacrifice a mistake for it, at best. Now, you can correct your actions without penalty.

The coins you earn can be used in the shop, where you can buy more hints, mistakes and other power ups. Mistakes can be bought for as little as 2000 coins, which is the earnings of a half a dozen levels, roughly.

There are a large number of trophies, mostly based on completion of different levels, but also ones like ‘earn 20000 coins’.

COMBINED IMPACT
Again, it is nothing exceptionally new here from 8 Floor, except that they have created an atmosphere that separates it from other games of its type, and for once I feel enthusiastic about this pictograph release. Show less

Your are only allowed a certain number of incorrect moves per board, which in the early levels was two. Looks like as you progress, you are allowed more incorrect moves (up to max of 6).

Graphics and game play are Excellent, although I felt the design and colour of the 'fill' and 'cross' tiles should have been more distinctive and contrasting. There is non-descript ambient music which can be muted.

Although I can recommend this game, There are other better ones in the genre. e.g. 'Gemsweeper' and 'World Riddles'. Show less

Occasionally I enjoy indulging in a game of Grids and there are a few of them that I rank high but unfortunately, not this game. If you are expecting a storyline, any hint of a storyline, animation or special effects, there are none to be found here. From the menu, you jump directly into the game and with each level, your goal is to earn three gold stars in order to get that trophie. The music is on a loop and rather 'loud'.

The one thing that annoyed me was there was no left hand mouse click option which made it tiresome to change your mouse each time you wanted to place a mark or empty space on the grid. For those who are familiar with the Grid Puzzle #which is what I call them# you know what I mean. You do however get a chance to replay each level and as said earn the appropriate trophies. There is also a shop to buy three types of items that are used as hints and mistakes allowed; somehow mine did not work when trying to purchase.

This is no Gemsweeper or Arizona Rose which are my favorites so if you are just interested in solving grids that escalate in difficulty as you play on, than I suppose this may be mildly interesting. I think I will go back and re-play my World Mosaic series. Show less

This is the same as the past mosaics save a few details. The levels do progress a bit faster, but to me, one mosaic is the same as the next. I have a video view in the forums. They won't let me put a url here, so visit the forum and look at the review section for this game for an address to the video. No spoilers, just the first few levels.

I don't recommend this game.

A no buy for me because the Xs and Os look too much alike and on the whole the game is too hard on the eyes. Thanks to the reviewers who recommended better games of this genre as I really like them and want to play...hope the ones they recommend will make my eyes happy and just in general be more fun.

Unfortunately, it's the same as all the others. There are no masks to collect. There is no story line.

Graphics are dull, flat & two-dimensional.

You cannot right-click to put an X in a square. You're forced to click on a separate icon to do that. Then, if you forget to change the icon back to where it was, you'll put an X in squares you didn't want to and have to start over.

When a column or row is completed, the rest of the boxes are not auto-filled so you're left with a bunch of empty squares to look at. It's just laziness on the part of the game designer.

All these grid games by this developer are exactly the same except that the theme changes with each one. There are so many other great games of this type available, so I hope you'll check them out because I don't recommend this one. Show less

If the game play was good, that might be ok, but it isn't - it's horrible. This game is the same as the Riddler games. Boring. No purpose whatsoever. These type of Games are what is called "Logic Art" in the puzzle world. At least it has been in mine. There is no art after you have finished the puzzle. No storyline nothing. I do this type of puzzle to see what I have produced at the end of it all. I played this demo for 4 min. and deleted it.
