YAY!!! A new one in the "Riddles" series.
Love these nanograms with no frills, no bells, no whistles...just good play.
Don't be fooled....these get very tough. I don't play with hints and I never finish a series until all the gold stars are in place.
If you like a nanogram with nothing but the nanogram...then this new addition to the "Riddles" series is perfect!
I recommend this game!

All you have is some tough griddles, and your challenge is to figure out how to fill them. Guessing will not help you, symmetry will not help you at all. As for taking your cues from the picture you are building, forget it.
Just put your thinking cap on.
And while it has none of the frills, it has the essentials: highlighting the row/column you are in, and counting the cells, and those are clear enough.
Let's see you fill them all with NO mistakes and NO hints. The way it should be. Show less

I love these games, but my favorites are the Arizona and Gizmo puzzles for the simple fact that there is a clue in each one, no guessing, in solving them. They are much more intriguing. The pics are better in the first Arizona Rose game than in the second, but once you get past the first set, they get better. At least in these type of games you can buy hints if you get stuck, but this one was so easy, there was no need. I read that some had issues with the tutorial. You have to actually click on the tutorial to get it, and could chose expert or beginner, but there were no instructions and if you drastically make a huge error, the tutorial just stalls, it doesn't know what to do... thought that was funny. All in all, I love every one of these games and so it's a buy for me. Hope you also enjoy it. Show less

I also don't like the whole idea of collecting coins. This is pretty much a one screen - one color game - GREEN! And I don't think the other dev need to be "green" with envy about this game! There really is no storyline because it is pretty much just straight screen after screen of nonograms (AKA O"Ekakai, paint by numbers, pic-a-pix etc.) I will purchase because I love to play this game this type of game to focus on work-related issues and there are always work-related issues. LOL They are fun to play when you need to focus your thoughts.
I just can't give it five stars, however due to the fact there is a better dev which produces a much better product. Sorry! Show less

I don't understand why these games of late are making it sound as if you are solving a mystery of some sort. From what I can tell, there isn't a storyline of any kind, just dark backgrounds with a chimpanzee who can apparently fly because he has a set of wings. As far as the tutorial goes, I experienced the opposite of what Logiebaby commented on. I didn't find an option at all for the tutorial, I usually opt for the tutorial so I can critique it. I played both the Beginner training levels and the Expert training single level and neither one showed me how to play this Griddler puzzle, it just gave me 5 x 5 easy grids to play. If I didn't know how to play this type of puzzle, I would have to figure it out on my own, so why bother? If you are new to this type of game, I would suggest passing on this one, the tutorial isn't very informative and the grids progress quickly, the storyline is nonexistent, the grids only have one basic color, and the final picture often leaves you scratching your head as you try to figure out what it represents.
Griddlers or Mosaic puzzles require you to fill in squares on grids of different sizes. There are numbers on each column and row, and each set of numbers must be separated by at least one empty cell. If the grid is a 5 x 5 grid and the number on the first row is 2 2, you would fill in the first two cells, the third would be left blank (or crossed off with a right click) and the final two cells are filled in. You continue this process of deduction until all cells are filled in, if you get stuck, there are hints available that will fill in a random cell for you. Some cells contain hints or coins when filled in correctly, the coins can be used to purchase 2 starting hints, the right to make 3 mistakes instead of 2, or you can refill the available hints on that level.
I really don't recommend this game for beginners, most grid lovers choose the Fantasy Mosaic series, or the World Mosaics, which have brilliant and vivid colors that really pop, enjoy! Show less

The one good thing about Detective Riddles is there are some challenging puzzles early on into the game. I had to repeat 3 of the grids after having too many mistakes. I never use hints while playing griddlers. For me the many minuses outweigh the plus. At the beginning I opted for NO tutorial but got one anyway. I have become quite spoiled at having the tri-colored grids that Fantasy provides, so these monochromatic entries started to bore me after about 20 minutes. The background music and the hooting owl ( sounds out after solving a grid ) also got hard to take. I suppose fanatic nanogram players might find Sherlock's Heritage to be a solid effort. For those of us who just want a change of pace from our favored HOPA's, M3's , etc., stick to the FM's beginning with their fourth entry. Show less

This review is based off the trial. I expected from the name to find this game to be a mix of the puzzle grids and some sort of riddle to be solved. I didn't find anything beyond the grids. The scoring screens after each round took a bit long to disappear (or maybe I'm still too grouchy this morning!)

The graphics are nice, and the puzzle doesn't automatically cross off numbers before the blanks are filled in a row or column, so in those areas it was satisfactory. Logic puzzle fans would probably enjoy this one. Show less

This is one messed up game, but someone must be buying them because a new one comes out every month. It's the same format with the same horrible mechanics over and over again. Anyway, here's why I couldn't wait to uninstall this:
* The titles always sound interesting but never are. In this particular case, there is no story to be immersed in, there's no detective, no riddles and no mention of Sherlock Holmes.
* Using a hint automatically takes away your perfect score for that level. And yet they let you buy extra hints if you want to. Why would you want to buy extra hints if you're not supposed to use any at all?
* You can buy extra mistake allowances, but once you make a mistake, you cannot get a perfect score for that level. Isn't the goal to achieve a perfect score of 3 stars?
* After you've correctly filled in a row or column, you have to manually X out all the leftover squares. All the other nonograms/grid games automatically fill these in for you.
* There is no logic involved, just a bunch of guesswork. That's why they offer extra hints.
* Finally, the graphics are plain old flat, uninteresting and dull.
I hope you'll try some of the other games in this genre so that you can see how a game of this type is really played. Show less
