New York Mysteries has done it again, this will be a series known for it's fantastic mysteries, unbelievable videos and over the top extra features, including my favorite, Beyond Objects! Laura's newest "otherworldly" case is the ongoing investigation of several Sing Sing prison guards who have spontaneously combusted, one minute alive and well, the next a pile of ashes! There has to be a scientific reason behind this phenomenon, someone or something is targeting these guards, what did the guards do to deserve such a cruel punishment?
This game has sooo much going on, an intriguing on the edge of your seat story, fantastic cinematics, 35 slow Morphing Beyond Objects, 9 Collectible Waving Kitties, 11 Collectible Statue of Liberties, 8 Secret Organization Capacitors, 7 Ball and Chains, 20 Diascope Slides, and all the Achievements you could ever want, or need!
The Hidden Object Scenes are a wee bit scarce, but very entertaining, progressive, interactive silhouette shape finds where you find the first item that matches the silhouette shown and then use that item back into the scene as you uncover clever puzzles, codes and mini games within the Hidden Object Scene! The Mini Games are fairly common puzzles such as a game of "Blocks" or Spot The Difference (actually spot the same) or arranging eagles on shelves so that the metal spheres are adjacent to each other and you can see a spark between them.
This Collector's Edition has Wallpapers, Concept Art, Videos, Music, replayable Mini Games and Puzzles, Achievements, Beyond Objects, Collectible Statues, and Collectible Diascope Slides, a built in Strategy Guide and a Bonus Chapter, enjoy! Show less

Another reviewer said the scenes were dingy...NO not at all. I HATE dingy ugly gruesome dirty garbage scenes. While this had no fantasy fairy like lovely scenes which I love, the realism was clean and well drawn. The time period looked to be mostly in the forties with a bit of fifties and a few cars that got up to the sixties. The scenes had industrial things turbines and such a freight elevator was of course not fancy, but the lighting and basic ambiance did not offend my need for clean.
Now the game, that was great GREAT why? because the puzzles were fun and inventive, the adventure was clear and the hint got you directed to where you might have forgotten what room the thing you had acquired was needed and it jumped you there, so you will not need hiking boots to get around.
I wish the hidden object scenes had not all been find a shape, but I love that each shape got to be used to find the next one.
I am looking forward to solving the puzzle that I have not yet found the bottom piece for, and the puzzle that I need the eagle for. I wonder what finding the torch for the statue of liberty will get me...there is a lot to do and find and get on with and I am eager to buy this one and get to it.
The colors are not garish and this is a fun game to look at as all the contraptions are well drawn and interesting. Sometimes we have to figure out how to make things work. Again the hint is very helpful in this regard.
There is a Strategy guide but it functions differently than the usual ones because the hint does most of the job.
I was tempted to skip a puzzle, because there was no hint for finding the piece to fill in the picture. However, I did not want to skip and miss seeing what I had missed, so I stuck with the scene one had to put missing pieces in their place and found the fence which was my last piece. I will bet the first one you find will be the same as my first...the building top piece. I really found that one fun once I got what I was supposed to do there.
I liked finding the toy cars and matching them to their photo. I still have two to find.
There was a puzzle where there were two pictures and you had to find the things that they had in common. That too was a lot of fun because it was not as obvious as one might think.
I enjoyed finding all the things one had to do in order to get the punch card. As I said there are a lot of things to do.
Furthermore there are morphing objects and collectible objects in the scenes. The collectible ones are easier than the morphing. I do not like that finding the morphing objects is less a matter of seeing them than having to make a lucky click on things. I do not like random clicking. I want a morphing object to morph so my eyes get that deja vu did I blink and really see that kind of feel. That is the fun of morphing objects for me. these did not seem to do that.
That failure, in no way discourages me from liking this game as overall there is so much really good puzzling to do.
Of course you should play the trial to see if it suits your taste. I think a lot of you will come to the same conclusion that this is a five plus star game. Show less

In the main game, the year is 1956 and you play Laura James. In the Bonus game it is 5 years earlier and you play the serial killer's father.
The graphics are superb - clear and easy to find everything you need. I loved going from scene to scene as I never knew what I would find next.
Sound and music are very good. The music is orchestral but adventurous and fast and I had it turned up very loud all the way through.
The hidden object games are interactive silhouette - find one item to use to find another item, etc. There was no deviation from this. Some of these took a while to do, so no hand-holding here. There are also little mini-games in them as well.
There were a huge variety of mini-games and I played them all. I thoroughly enjoyed them. These were not frustrating to do and I never felt that I couldn't complete one. However, once again, there was no hand-holding either.
I used the interactive map only fleetingly, however you will be travelling around to a lot of scenes, and I found it worked well.
I only managed to get 14 achievements, so I'll go back to the game later in the year and give it another whirl. I lost an achievement by only finding 32 of the morphing objects (doh!!). There were others like finding so many objects in so many seconds, etc. I'm hopeless at that. My brain and the mouse go off in two different directions!!
When you have found all the 20 slides, go into the Extras and you can play games by rotating the crystals to direct the ray of light through all of them. These ranged from easy to hard.
All up the game took me about 12 hours to play. This is a huge game with plenty to do in each scene, so you won't be bored here.
Definitely recommended that you give this game a try. It really is a gem. LOVED IT. Well done Five-BN Games.

The story and game play are both just the best I've seen from Big Fish for many months.
Some of the characters are just a tiny bit stiff sometimes but usually really believable motion (especially the main character) with excellent environments and sound effects.
I especially love the puzzles and hidden object treatment. I usually just tolerate game puzzles but the New York Mystery series puzzles are fun to do.
It has got all the bells and whistles of other newer games but out classes most of them in actual game execution and story development. Show less

Ok, I'll admit it. I am a huge fan of the New York Mystery Series. The Stories are always intriguing and the outcome unforeseen. So I am in love with this game to begin with and you have been warned.
As Laura, the new detective for a secret society, you have been called in to investigate a possibly related series of murders committed through seemingly supernatural forces. Adding to the urgency is the involvement in what may be the unifying occasion by your boss. Could he be the next victim? You find a clue at your first crime scene and set out to find the person mentioned, only to be seconds late at the scene of the next crime.
Good Stuff: The stylized artwork is well done, none of the scenes overly dark unless needed. The HOPs are interactive and the mini-games are good. The background music and sounds are well done - an empty room has only the ticking of a clock; a park, the sounds of birds and insects, with traffic in the distance. There is a strategy guide, several different collectibles including "beyond objects" (morphing items), and the rest of the CE bling. There are only two play levels, but you can customize game elements for both levels to tailor the game as you wish.
Bad stuff: There are only five chapters listed in the strategy guide, and you play two of them in the demo. Also there is a lot of animation to watch, but it is crucial to the plot and fairly well done.
I'm getting this game, as I have not been disappointed by this series yet. Play the demo and see for yourself!

Our mystery opens with an execution scene at Sing Sing Penitentiary where the condemned is strapped into the electric chair. The switch is pulled, a bright flash of light blinds the witnesses, and the prisoner has disappeared leaving only a small pile of ash behind. What happened?
Fast forward, Sing Sing has been closed and abandoned. Our intrepid detective, who works for a secret society which assists the police, has been called to the scene of another similar paranormal mystery. A witness heard a scream in a park, saw a bright flash of light, and nothing was left behind but a pile of ash in the shape of a man.
Newspapers note that similar crimes have taken place before. A private letter reveals that the victims were all witnesses to the mysterious disappearance of the Sing Sing prisoner. Who or what is hunting down the witnesses and murdering them? Can you investigate the unexplained deaths and solve the paranormal mystery by placing yourself in danger gathering clues? Attention to details will pay off with useful items when solving fun puzzles, and finding appropriate-to-the-game hidden object games. You will be rewarded for finding all the Collections, and Beyond (morphing) Items with Achievements.
Five-BN Games has presented us with a super fun game that has diverse characters, a truly interesting story line, settings with just enough creepiness factor, excellent voice overs, a helpful interactive map, and a mystery that is hard to leave for even a few minutes! HIGHLY recommended! Hope everyone will at least give it a try! Show less

I loved the first game in the series and actually played it more than once which is very rare for me. The storyline is intriguing and different from the norm. The graphics and game mechanics are smooth and well done. I'm not a fan of tedious list type HOS and so far this game doesn't have any. The HOS are far and few between and definitely not tedious.
Great game and a definite buy!!
