If you like games such as Relic Rescue where you drop tiles from the top of the screen onto tiles on the board to make matches of at least 3 to destroy the tiles, you're going to love this safari themed game. Before the start of every level you are given an option of Fast, Normal, Slow or No Timer difficulty modes, however, each mode has a specific number of gold stars given, more for Fast Timed modes and less for each mode that is easier, so you may not be able to earn all 5 stars with the easier modes.

There are several types of gameplay available, matches of 5 or more will change a tile to an exploding tile which takes out a group of tiles. As you progress, you receive fewer tiles that can be readily matched, and if the tiles begin to stack up on top, the less you will be able to see of the bottom tiles as the heavy load bears down on the board. Some tiles are made out of stone that require several tiles dropped on them to crumble them, some tiles are wrapped in vines which also require several matches. You start out as a Spectator and rank up as you progress. Listed below are the types of games you can expect.
1) Timed mode where all tiles have to be removed within a specific amount of time.
2) Saving the animals from poachers, you are still in timed mode, and you still need to remove all tiles, but you must also make matches under the animal cages to release them.
3) Limited Moves, you can take your time with this game because there's no timer but you have to match all tiles within a specific amount of moves.
4) Match 3 is a normal Match 3 game where you swap tiles to match at least 3 identical tiles and the goal is to make several matches over the Granite tile which turns it to an Earth tile and then a Sand tile and one last match destroys the tile completely.
I didn't notice any new features between this game and Relic Rescue other than the addition of the regular type Match 3 game, but I love this type of game and I love the sounds of the Serengeti and safari themed animals, enjoy! Show less

I read the reviews & was almost put off, but gave it a try. I am so glad I did, as I immediately realized it was a cousin to one of my favourite games - Aztec Venture. So if you have played that game, you will have a better understanding. Both games give you a lesson in history or in this case the fast disappearing wild life, mainly due to poachers. Safari Venture is the best match 3 game I have played. The gameplay is varied, the graphics are terrific, and the sound effects and African-themed soundtrack are pleasant. (The story is minimal, and inconsequential to the game.) There are over 100 levels to play.

The levels vary between three different games. The main game is match three played by dropping blocks from the top of the screen to create matches with a field of predetermined blocks. This comes in both a timed version, and a puzzle version in which your star score is determined by the number of drops it takes you to clear the colored blocks from the screen.

The third level type is also timed. It is the classic match three game in which you swap icons to create matches, clearing colored tiles on the game board. While the block dropping levels reward you for matches of 5 or more blocks at a time with a bomb which can be matched to clear all blocks within a 3 by 3 square centered on the bomb, there are no special match bonuses in this level type.

One of my favorite parts about the game is that you can play in a relaxed, untimed/limitless moves mode, or in three increasing difficultly levels above that. This is accomplished by a progressively shorter move timer on the timed levels, such that if you go too long without making a match, you fail the level, and by giving extra moves on the easier difficulties on the move-based levels. At the highest level, the play can be fairly frenetic. Every time you start a level, you must choose the difficulty you want, which could be annoying, but it defaults to the last difficulty used, so it isn't really a big deal.

As mentioned, these difficulty levels affect the scoring. You get 0 through 3 base stars depending on difficulty level, then have stage objectives which will give you 1 to 3 additional stars depending on how well you complete the level based on time or number of moves used. Your score can be 1-5 stars after successfully completing a level, and if you beat the shortest target time or least number of moves, the middle star turns red.

All in all, this is an excellent game with high production values and fun gameplay. Show less

Safari Venture is a fun puzzle/match 3 type game. I like the fact that it is not only a game that requires matching pieces to remove the stones but that we have the puzzle component that requires some brain power to get through certain levels.

Safari Venture is a fun puzzle/match 3 type game. I like the fact that it is not only a game that requires matching pieces to remove the stones but that we have the puzzle component that requires some brain power to get through certain levels.

The graphics are okay but nothing spectacular and the music is safari like as one would expect. We can choose to play the game without a timer but if we do then there is no opportunity to earn gold stars. That alone put me off because unless I choose to play against the timer, then no matter how well I do on any particular round of the game, it doesn’t matter and I will earn one gold star. If there is truly no timer, then the gold stars shouldn’t be a part of the award for finishing a round.

If you like puzzles and match 3 type games I recommend that you try the demo. Unfortunately, there wasn’t enough oomph in this game to hold my attention. Show less

a different kind of match 3 with a traditional match 3 thrown in now and then. you are dropping items from the top to match the items on the screen and get rid of them. not so challenging on the untimed mode, which i played, but there is a timed mode you can play. there are 100 levels to get through

I found this game very boring for adults but would say its good for children I uninstalled after only 10 minutes sorry not for me
