Well Detective, you've managed to get yourself involved in a war between two kingdoms! It looks like the little boy didn't cry wolf when he told the story of finding an ancient artifact, a malevolent queen controlling mechanical beasts, and the beautiful Princess Leda who has a golden touch! Queen Valla of Barisa, has rallied her people for the eminent war at hand, but she may have an ulterior motive, is this truly a righteous war? Jack has beat you to the scene this time, but he's looking for something entirely different, a Shooting Star to grant wishes.....is this a fairytale or a reason for war?
I am disappointed, one of my favorite features in Dark Parables, have been the Morphing Objects. These were the really cool morphs, morphs that are triggered by a non-linear action that may not begin to morph until you are several scenes ahead, so you never knew! For whatever reason they have abandoned this feature, perhaps it's too difficult to program? At least they still have Parables! Parables are collectibles that tell a tale once all three sections of a Parable has been collected. There are also some very well hidden Snowflakes, 40 of them, and some of them are nearly impossible to find, the good news is that you get a chance to go back and find the ones you missed!
The Hidden Object Scenes are actually FROG's, a feature these games are famous for. The items you search for are actually fragments scattered cleverly about the scene. There are three different sections, and once you have found all the fragments the three sections will combine to give you the completed inventory item.
The Mini Games are always a treat, almost everything in the land of Dark Parables requires finding emblems, including the puzzles. Below are brief descriptions of the puzzles you will encounter during the game:
1) Rotate ruin stones correctly, turning one stone affects others.
2) Interact with the scene of the story Goldilocks.
3) Move tokens to designated spots at the bottom of the board using only spaces with the same shape.
4) Rotate cylinders to create a path for three different shapes from right to left.
This Collector's Edition has 8 Wallpapers, 6 Concept Art pictures, 9 Music Soundtracks, 21 replayable Puzzles, 20 replayable FROGS, 14 Movie trailers, 11 Achievements, 40 Hidden Snowflakes, Collectible Parables, a built in Strategy Guide and a Bonus Adventure (with bad boy Jack!) Enjoy! Show less

This certainly isn’t the same Goldilocks story that I remember but I rather like the Dark Parables spin on the much loved tale. As usual you are a detective that investigates unusual occurrences and even when on vacation it seems that your help is required. A young boy tells a tale of being attacked by strange mechanical beasts but did that really happen? The thing is he has shown up with an artifact that might have been the reason for the attack. As you begin your investigation you too are attacked so there just might be something to the boy’s story after all. As you extract yourself from a dangerous situation and begin your investigation you find that there seems to be some sort of feud between the Barsians and the Olesians. The situation becomes even more tangled as you encounter your old friend Jack from the Sky Kingdom. As you step into Goldilocks and the Fallen Star, be aware that things are not always as they seem.
The game includes four modes of gameplay: Casual, Hard, Insane and Custom. If you select the Custom mode the hints can be set to recharge anywhere from 10 to 120 seconds and the puzzle skips can be set to recharge in a range of 10 to 400 seconds. You have the option select what type tutorial you want, if any, as well as the option to turn off the of the HOP error click penalty if you don’t want to be penalized for random clicking in the HOPS. As usual the graphics are very good and the sound package compliments the game including the excellent voiceovers. The only thing I find disappointing with the change in devs of the Dark Parables games is that the FROGS now lack the richness and gorgeous color that was present in the original games.
Your tools include an interactive map that is found early in the game. At least during the demo I did not encounter any gimmicky tools so that at least is a good thing. I do have a feeling though that the artifact I found early in the game may have some future purpose but hopefully it isn’t an item that must be charged by playing a mini-game before each use. I personally find those sorts of things nothing more than frustrating time-fillers to pad out a game but this is simply my opinion and others might not agree.
The newer Dark Parables games include the traditional FROGS as well as HOPS. As I mentioned earlier the FROGS lack the luster of the previous games and seem dull by comparison. The HOPS are varied including the interactive story type where we must replace objects in the scene to open more of the story to ultimately receive our needed item. At least in the demo it seemed like there were a lot of mini-games and the ones encountered were fairly simple. One puzzle involved turning stones so that the runes on them were all visible, but turning one affected the adjacent runes as well. Personally, I dislike this type of puzzle and find them frustrating even though I eventually get the right combo. Another puzzle involved smelting bronze to create an artifact by following the instructions. The puzzles will become more difficult as the game progresses so I know there will be some to keep me on my toes.
The CE version of the game contains collectibles – snowflakes as well as parable pieces. There are also those inevitable achievements to earn. The remaining extras include the Bonus Gameplay, Strategy Guide, Replay of HOPS and Puzzles, Wallpapers, Music, Movies, and Artwork. Generally this developer pack a lot into their CE releases so I am sure that looking for collectibles and morphing objects will keep me busy.
Of course the demo ends on a cliff hanger and whets our appetite for what is to come. Overall, I love the way this team puts a game together and am rarely disappointed. I had my doubts at the beginning of Goldilocks as it seemed to get off to a very slow start but it eventually picked up and I was disappointed when the demo came to an end. Because I love the Dark Parables games and their spin on some of my favorite stories, the game was an instant buy for me. Even though I know the game is one I will enjoy, as always, I recommend that you at least try the demo to see if this is a game you will like. Show less

Goldilocks certainly didn't disappoint. Eipix has continued the Blue Tea Games tradition of beautiful graphics and challenging puzzles. The new characters encountered are interesting and the story is compelling. As usual, once I started the game, I had to play it all the way to the end. There were one or two small details that did have me scratching my head just a bit, but nothing I couldn't overlook and certainly nothing that harms the series in any material way. The bonus chapter contained some really intriguing new details about the Fairy Tale Detective's continued role in all of this.
If I had to offer a complaint at all, it's that Jack - whom I really loved in Jack and the Sky Kingdom - returns and isn't nearly as fun this time around. But the bonus chapter explains why he's become like that, so once I played the bonus I didn't mind it quite so much.
On the whole, very happy with this new addition to my all-time favorite PC game series! Show less

A breathtakingly beautiful game! Mechanical beasts abound as you investigate why mechanical stags are attacking the local residents of Barsia. Are they coming from the rival kingdom of Olesia? I LOVE this game. This is a special treat for FROG lovers as all the HOP scenes are FROGS! (FROG – Fragmented Hidden Object Game). You will search for fragments of inventory items and forge them together to create an inventory object. The graphics are beautifully rendered with a touch of gold. The story is excellent, centering on a long-standing rivalry between two kingdoms torn apart by a magic relic – a falling star which can grant your ever wish. I might add my wish has been granted as well with this stellar game! I especially LOVE the character Princess Leda, a beautiful, valiant golden haired Nordic warrior possessing the Midas touch. However, I am afraid she is just a little too gullible.
There are more puzzles than HOP scenes. Most of the mini-games are relatively easy; however, in the demo there is one mini-game which is fairly difficult involving a variation of a checkers puzzle. After the demo, the puzzles become increasingly more difficult. This dev, known for its creativity and innovation, has also provided one multi-step mini-game which uses the story of “Goldilocks and the Three Bears” as a backdrop for the mini-game. I love the storybook approach to this mini-game. The puzzles include moving tiles puzzles, replacement of items back into the scene, sequential puzzles, matching puzzles, a checker puzzle, mathematical puzzles, and maze puzzles. At the beginning of the game you receive a magic amulet which provides even more mini-puzzles throughout the game.
Jack is back from the Sky Kingdom game. Now what is he doing in this game? As he warns you that the plot of this game is more complex than you may thing. You will find yourself in the midst of a forthcoming war teeming with mechanical stags and bears. Oh my! There is definitely an undercurrent seething beneath of surface of this game. However, what is that undercurrent? Queen Valla of Barsia seems to have some suspicious motives in taking her people to war with the Olesians. What are those hidden motives? I can “bearly” contain my enthusiasm for this game. I have been waiting patiently for MONTHS for this game to appear. EIPIX again has delivered on an outstanding game.
LEVELS: Casual, Hard, Insane, Custom
Hints 10 to 120 seconds Skips 10 to 400 seconds
You have the option to set up penalties for random clicking in the game
EXTRAS:
Map - Map is provided as you play the game
Magic Amulet which requires you locate pieces to activate some devilish puzzles.
11 Achievements
Collect 40 Snowflakes
Collect 7 Parables
Strategy guide - 54 Pages
Usual wallpaper, artwork, music, replay of 21 puzzles, replay of 20 HOP scenes
HERE ARE THE DETAILS (SPOILERS) FOR THOSE WANT MORE INFORMATION ON THE HOP SCENES AND MINI-PUZZLES
HOP SCENES: All the HOP scenes are FROGS (FROG is an anagram for Fragmented Hidden Object Game). You search for pieces of an object which will be sent to your inventory to use in the game. There are four in the demo. Some of the FROG pieces are not easy to locate. I played two more FROGS after the demo.
MINI-GAMES:
A. Variation of a moving tiles puzzle. Rotate runes on ropes until all of the runes are facing forward. EASY
B. Multi-step puzzle: 1. Storybook sequence about “Goldilocks and the Three Bears.” Locate items and replace them back into the scene. 2. Variation of a mathematical puzzle. Find the correct sequence in turning levers to lower a bridge. 3. Locate items which are shown on buttons then replace them back into the scene in the correct location 4. Variation of a matching puzzle. Click tumblers to find the correct combination which matches the teeth of a key to open a lock. 5. Matching puzzle. Find matching stars. ALL ARE EASY
C. Variation of a checkers puzzle. Move 3 colored tokens with geometric shapes to their matching ones at the bottom of a maze. Quite tricky. You must move all three at the same time to get all to the bottom of the table. DIFFICULT
D. Variation of a maze puzzle. Rotate five cylinders to create a continuous path for three tokens to move from the right side to the left side of the device. EASY
AFTER THE DEMO:
E. Variation of a matching puzzle. Swap locks so that they match keys according to symbols on the locks and keys. You are only allowed to switch certain locks and keys at a time according to circular looping. MODERATELY DIFFICULT
F. Variation of a mathematical puzzle. Move beads on an abacus so that the lines of beads total the figures at the bottom of the abacus. MODERATELY DIFFICULT

Dark Parables games have been among my personal favorites ever since the first edition arrived. As far as being satisfying in the fantasy genre, these games have always met or exceeded expectations. Goldilocks isn't the best of the lot. I wonder if this has something to do with Blue Tea being in cahoots with Eipix as to the production and/or distribution of DP games. The best of the series continue to be those relating to the Red Riding Hood sisters when Blue Tea was on its own. My biggest fault with Goldilocks is in the visual presentation. Characters do not appear to be as well drawn in this game as they have been in prior games.
As far as the story is concerned, the intrepid detective is summoned to Symhir and the legendary realm of Barsia which is ruled by Queen Valla, who by the way is introduced giving a speech to her countrymen concerning a war with rival Olesians as the demo ends. Other than the somewhat clunky drawing and movements of the characters, this DP is still very appealing. While based on well known fairy tales
DP's always manage to provide a significant amount of variation on the theme so to speak. It's obvious that in this version, the detective will need to immerse him/her self as an assistant in defeating the Olesians.
As is typical of all games in the series, the hidden object segments are of the fractured variety. Parts of the whole must be found to manufacture an item relevant to the advancement of the game. One example is a hunter's horn.
FROG scenes include parts which are well hidden in plain sight. The finished product is usually visually stunning.
The puzzles are generally quite doable. There was one in the demo I ended up skipping. It involved moving 3 different shaped object down a correct path to their destination. I wanted to finish the demo more than I wanted to complete the puzzle.
There are collectible snowflakes which I did not pay too much attention to. I'll concern myself with them after I buy the game.
As stated previously there are better Dark Parable editions. This one still manages to be a better game than lots of other offerings. I will certainly add it to my repertoire and urge fellow players to consider it worthy of purchase. Show less

The Dark Parables stories are such a treat. I think this is the tenth one I've played and each is about a unique fairy tale character. If you haven't played the others, you should give them a spin as well. This Goldilocks is Princess Leda of Barsia, who has the Midas touch and turns things - and people - into gold.
You are again the detective, trying to solve the mystery of an uncovered artifact that seemed to let mechanical beasts and their evil leader into Barsia. You need to see Queen Valla, but it seems she is gearing up for war with her arch enemy, the Olesians, and has a few mechanical bears of her own!
This is a game to be savored and enjoyed. The HOPs are all FROGs - fragmented items to be found and automatically assembled into something you need. All the parts are not that easy to find and I had to use the hint button a few times for that one last piece! The mini-games are fun but a bit easy. My favorite is the multi-part interactive Goldilocks story. There are lots of puzzles.
The CE Bling includes Pictures, Music, Video, Puzzles, HOPs, and Bonus Video. There is also my favorite of Parables, which you can view after finding a few pieces of the Parable puzzle. They add and explain the story line. There are also 40 collectible Snowflakes -- I only found one. They are quite hidden in each scene and I tried pretty hard to look for them. There is even an icon on the screen to let you know if you've missed one.
There are 4 modes of difficulty, including custom. The voice-overs are excellent. Even Jack - from Jack and the Beanstalk, I think - makes an appearance.
Try this one, I think you'll enjoy it. Show less

I did the beta test for this game and couldn't wait for it to come out for everyone; the only problem I had with it was that it took too long to download. It still may take a bit of time but the speed was greatly improved; and believe me it is worth the wait.

I did the beta test for this game and couldn't wait for it to come out for everyone; the only problem I had with it was that it took too long to download. It still may take a bit of time but the speed was greatly improved; and believe me it is worth the wait.
I've played the whole game in casual mode (I have all of the DP games# and it took most of the day even with skipping some of the puzzles which I found to be a bit difficult. Unlike some of the other games released recently this is a long game 10 chapters plus the bonus game; it also includes a hint of the future DP game #not telling#.
What I found:
1--graphics are beautiful, containing all the colors of the rainbow, crisp and clear.
2--voices are appropriate to the characters which are very well drawn.
3--movies are also well done and continue the story along.
4--HOs the usual for this game though finding some of the items gets a bit more difficult as the game progresses.
5--puzzles galore and difficulty increases as the game progresses.
6--transporter map #beam me up Scotty) also indicates where you have tasks to be done.
7--snowflake collectibles located in every scene which are not so easy to find.
8--morphing parable pieces to find also not easy to locate which are not in every scene; finding all the pieces opens the story.
9--the usual collector extras videos; looking for collectibles; replayable puzzles; HOs; wallpapers etc.
It looks like they spent a lot of time working on this game before it's release and it shows in the graphics and difficulty in the HOs; and puzzles as well as the length of the game itself.
My preference are the fantasy games and I mentioned that I have all the DP games but technically this is one of the best that I have found and the time they took with it qualitywise shows. This may not be everyone's cup of "tea" but try the demo and I think you will become as hooked as I was.
If I could give it more stars I would give it a 10 and I highly recommend this game. Show less
