The family curse continues in the Gray Mansion, Brandon's young son Billy is being tormented by a man of many faces. Sometimes he appears as Alfred the Butler, sometimes as a bald man with scars, but clearly the man behind the dark cloak is the most frightening entity to Billy, and rightfully so! This man is pure evil, and he'll stop at nothing to destroy Brandon and Elena's only child. Aunt Anna is the only person capable of stopping this madman, her ability to revisit past events is the only means of finding out who, or what is after Billy, and more importantly, why?
It's hard to write a biased review for the Grim Tales saga, because this is one of my favorite storylines. If you are new to this series, I strongly recommend that you go back to the beginning (The Bride, I believe is the first in the series but I may be wrong) because the ongoing storyline is awesome, HOWEVER, it isn't a necessity, you will be able to understand this game's story even if you haven't played other games in the series. You won't have any magical amulets to slow down time, you won't enter any magical mirror portals, and you won't have any furry sidekicks, but Aunt Anna Gray does have the ability to use personal objects to travel back in time, where time stands still and people are frozen in that moment of time. With this unique ability, Anna can investigate in that time frame and solve cases that otherwise would be unsolvable. I liked the way her abilities were tied into the story to give us an explanation of the origin of why she is the only one in the family with unusual powers. The graphics are always exceptional, but I thought that the quality of the last game was much better then The Heir. Each Scene is packed full of areas of interest, and there are several Plus Sign inventory items requiring a little something extra before the item can be used. There are hidden Puzzle pieces to collect that will form 3 different Screensavers when assembled. Each Scene has a slow changing Morphing Object, and some of the scenes have Collectible Character Figures, plenty of extras to make this a superb Collector's Edition.
The Hidden Object Scenes are different every time, some of which are smaller zoom zone scenes where you find multiple fragments or objects. There are Listed items, Silhouetted Shape finds, Multiples of an item, Pairs of items to find, multi-layered finds, and descriptive finds available in just the demo alone.
The Mini Games are decent, not too hard, not too easy. Below are brief descriptions of the games you'll encounter during the demo:
1) Rotate each of the three valves to move the gauges into the blue zone.
2) Lead the zebra through the labyrinth using directional arrows to open and close the gears along the path.
3) Move lockpicks into the lock selecting individual rods to lift up or down as well as directional arrows to move the lockpicks.
4) Assemble a puzzle picture by swapping square tiles.
5) Move the portraits along the lines to their correct places, or choose two portraits to swap positions.
6) Enter the correct safe combination following the combination found.
This Collector's Edition has 8 Wallpapers, 8 Concept Art pictures, a Secret Room to test your skills, 5 Music Soundtracks, 13 Collectible Character Figures, 3 Screensavers to assemble with the collectible Puzzle Pieces) an Archives Room, a Morphing Object in every scene, 19 Achievements, a built in Strategy Guide and a Bonus Adventure, ENJOY! They're doomed I tell ye. But what gorgeous trouble it is - think Downton Abbey with bloodstains and a fabulous dark and stormy night soundtrack. I am absolutely a Grim Tales fan and on the look out for the next game, and yes, my current screensaver is from The Vengeance - so I'm into another CE with a screensaver. Yet even with my ridiculous bias of loving this series, I'd say give this game a whirl, if only the freebie hour. The artwork is spectacular - the crystal sharp quality is a standout in the field. There are just crazy details - like the sheep in Billy's room - that would be awesomely impressive on their own and the screen is chock full of this stuff.
No tedious looping of a few minutes of music. It comes and goes, with various spooky background sounds fading in and out. The screens have constant motion, (to drive you nuts while looking for morphing stuff I'm sure that's the intention). Your submerged in a total experience.
I thought 'it'll look gorgeous but I'll just gallop through the puzzles'. Embarrassingly, no - but playwise - hurrah! And I'm still only on the freebie trial, which I play in the easiest mode, as I like to have a good traipse through.
The storyline - well - summit bad and spooky is occurring. If anyone has thought of something entirely original I'll be impressed as this family has had it all! I am scared of the butler. As I haven't completed the game, I can't really rate it - it just started in the 'oh so familiar' drive through a storm and try to open a door way. So far the game experience is so good, it moves it along with a good pace.
I'm getting this CE, it's beautiful and mesmerizing. It's quality is really standout. And hey, a screensaver! Show less

This edition Grim Tales 10: The Heir surpassed all my expectations with its captivating storyline and extraordinary gameplay. The Hidden object scenes and puzzles were executed with tremendous attention to detail and design, but it was the use of inventory items and progression of the story that was most challenging for me. Like the description in the intro you're cast in the role of Aunt Gray and you've been called to the Gray's Castle to help your nephew Brandon. His son is missing, and his wife's fallen into a mysterious coma! It's up to you to discover what dark forces are at play in your family's castle. The past and present collide as you look for answers. Once you reach the end of the demo (where you try to use the tranquilizer gun on Brandon) the excitement goes full throttle and you learn a 'Family Secret' that compels you to continue playing without even a bathroom break...LOL.
One of the features of this edition I enjoyed about the game is you travel back and forth to the past, present and future. There are no hallways with doors lined up to go through. The transport map is there for each "time" but you never had to click on the map to view the present, past or future. The items you collected in whatever "time" you were in always stayed with you. Voice acting and Sound/SFX were fantastic and so are the graphics, even if a bit dark with tiny inventory items. Aunt Gray also discovers a new talent to her supernatural abilities, but to elaborate would be considered a 'REVIEW SPOILER'. I really hope these developers continue with this level of quality with their other series, this epic adventure deserves more than just 5 stars... Enjoy!

Whilst I am only half-way through this game (time difference), I am loving it so much felt compelled to write and urge everyone to buy it either as a CE game or wait and get the SE version (if you don't care about having a strategy guide, bonus game, etc).
I have always enjoyed the Grim Tales ongoing saga but this game has been lifted to new and great heights! It seems it will be of a decent length too .... finally .....), and you can lengthen it even further by either selecting HARD mode or CUSTOM mode and set your own goals.
You do though, have quite a few objects/collectibles to find, such as puzzle parts, figurines and morphing objects. I am not good at remembering to do this so often 'cheat' with the SG however, in this game, means arrowing backwards and forwards as these have been separated ... sort of a bugbear with me... however, good game developers though, do allow you to "find" missing items in the EXTRAS content, which I love .. for personal reasons unknown to even myself, I do love to know I have collected them all!
Others have advised of the storyline so I will just comment on enjoyment, ease of game-play and graphics and overall, "strength"/challenge of it.
Challenge/length so far, is great ... and at times, frustrating, which I love! Most of the time you only have 2 or 3 locations to work on and yet I got so frustrated wondering what to do next I almost hit the SG button! And that is because I failed to look carefully in zoomed in locations or check my inventory to add/fix an item .... well done as it is testing my skills and giving me "value for money"!
As I am not a lover of HOP's, trying to find minute items, even with my glasses on, silly items, items not relevant ... I found this game's HOP's to be "different" so therefore not a chore and they are quite few and far between and NEVER repeated ... at least to date! Again, well done DEV's for taking that extra bit of time to produce a thinking/puzzle game not reliant on finding a needed object in yet another HOP!
This is so far a great game and one I think, won't end in an afternoon so will feel money well spent and give me hours of pleasure.
I recommend you try it for I know you will love it, feel challenged and then elated when you finally solve puzzles and work out what to do next!

Like the other games in the “Grim Tales” series,” The Heir Collector’s Edition” offers lots of things to love. It has beautiful graphics, with sharp, deeply saturated and bright colors. There are clear and uncluttered hidden object scenes, with just the right amount of challenge in finding objects, without making me go cross-eyed. There are many enjoyable puzzles, which allow enough thinking to be interesting, while being easy enough that I don’t see gamers getting frustrated. There are lots of areas and items to discover and explore. I also really appreciate that we get to set our own challenge level, up to and including “Custom”, which I use whenever offered.
Add to that morphing objects within the scenes, several types of collectibles, mini-games within the hidden object scenes, a secret room, multiple achievements a transporting map, that indicates current tasks and player’s location, and a bonus chapter and you have me giving “Grim Tales: The Heir Collector’s Edition” a definite two thumbs up, for a very entertaining game!
Thanks developers and artists and programmers for a great game!

How I would love to see happier times for the Gray family but oh, my, if it's not one thing, it's another evil entity wanting revenge for some reason or another.
I bought the CE version and am half-way through the Main Game. I usually like to complete a game in its entirety before submitting a review but I thought while my thoughts are fresh in my mind I'd give one now. I love this game. The flow, the artwork, the characters, the storyline, the music, I love it all. This game suits me very well and I'm so glad that I purchased it.
Elephant Games devs, I think you outdid yourselves on this one. The voiceovers are fantastic and the sound effects are your usual eerie stuff; the music on the whole is wonderful. The voiceover for Richard is outstanding. That aside, the gameplay is spot on! Love it. For me it clicks. The puzzles are not that hard but tedious and that requires patience on my end. For instance, aligning the candles to light up all at once, well, I enjoy those but sometimes I don't have the patience and will hit the skip button because I want to move on. This time I stuck it out!
The storyline is quite interesting as you move forward. Though I enjoy reading the text and/or diary if it is offered, I don't need all of it, though, so I turned off the contextual text. But I do believe some text is needed. I customized this game so that I didn't need the sparkles, and tutorial, but what I do like is a very good map signifying that task(s) are available in any given area. I also like my plus items marked. Other than that, I don't need the rest. So far, too, I'm finding the morphing objects, collectibles, which are a lot of fun.
To me, every task makes sense in this game--there is a rhyme to its reason. I like that. So for me, I give this a high 5-star rating. Again, the puzzles and mini-games, and the HOS are not the hardest or that unusual, but they are challenging at times.
One minor thing that I spotted from the get-go was that there was a typo which read as follows: "I'll need the right TOOK to straighten the stretchers." The word should have been TOOL. Be it for me to judge because I make typos and grammatical errors lots of times but I'm not the editor of this game. So to the editor, assistant editor, and proofreaders, double check the text before you finalize the game. However, this minor flaw will not detract from the game-play whatsoever, nor from my rating either.
I have no idea how this story will end but the fact that I look forward to playing this game is a big plus! That's the whole point. If I'm bored and don't look forward to playing, well, how much fun can that be? This game will not disappoint! I highly recommend it!. And Devs, let's have a storyline for the Gray family that at least will show joyous times, a happier family reunion or just end it all together! Nevertheless, awesome job, Devs, thus far! Show less

There are dark figures and plenty of active areas. I loved the ability to move in time, and the HOS were really original. Looking for the honey dipper and stray donut are fine, but I really enjoy the Find 7x or Find pairs or matching objects. Plus the puzzles are really intriguing - difficult but not impossible. It's difficult to hit that sweet spot, and the designers have nailed it.
One thing I love is a very logical setting, and Grim Tales delivers. I could picture where each room was in relation to the other. Sometimes I can't, not even with the map!
All the usual bells and whistles are there: great cutscenes, wonderful graphics, interactive map, and custom play mode. But there's an extra level of great writing and impeccable artistry that Elephant always brings to the table. Show less

Recently I have found Elephant games to be rather predictable and borderline boring. Not so with this game. Yes, there are not that many places to go and there is a lot of back and forth but, each time there are new items, puzzles or HOPs in the area. I especially like finding something only to have more things to do underneath. Personally, I loved this game.
