I've been a member of Big Fish for several years and this is my first review. That speaks to how much I like this game. I've just played the full trial period and I'm really impressed by Invasion 2: Doomed. I'm migrainey, so I didn't go into full immersive mode - I played it quiet and I played it casual. I was only paying cursory attention to the story line, but I liked it. We've had over the top storms in Europe in the last week, so weather havoc and saving the planet are engaging topics. Not such a big alien fan, but if they're a way of bringing beautiful, otherworldly graphics, I'm in!
The wins for me - very engaging. Lots of 'make sense' object retrieval and very good mini games. All the details and game play have a clean, sharp, open and mechanistic feel - I liked that successful completion opened them in a mini-game menu. I was quite happy to keep chipping away for ages until I won through. On games I didn't fancy, the 'skip' facility turned up quickly in casual mode.
Getting through the first portal was a treat - real sci-fi art. The hidden object games were fine. The level of invention and imagination was really high, even in the demo - so I'm quite intrigued at how that pans out in the rest of the game.
For a tired girl, with fuzzy eyesight, this really was surprisingly playable. Choose this if you DON'T want - poodling around in the dark, hard to pick out objects and any witchy/wizardy things. A must have for puzzle fans. Show less

PROLOGUE...
Generally, I take notes when playing a game so I have a reference while writing my review. I use a 7”x7” notepad, and notes from one game usually cover no more than one side of one sheet. My notes for this game cover both sides of two sheets…that’s how many puzzles and mini-games there are.
ONCE UPON A TIME...
After you blew up the planet Torion, you and Mike thought the alien threat had been neutered. Little did you know that a cadre of the aliens had been off-planet at the time. Now, they’ve vowed to hunt you down and get their revenge. Naturally, they need a new planet to colonize, so they’re attacking planets on their way to Earth, first slowing down each one’s rotation, then invading once the population is weak. It’s up to you and Mike to stop them once and for all.
PLAY THE GAME...
On each planet, you’ll interact with the native population, find your way to the portal, and activate it. Each interaction with a native is accompanied by a variation of a puzzle in which you must find a pattern of three items in a large grid. Each portal activation is accomplished by blowing up the spheres guarding it in some way, including exploding them in five tries, with strategic positioning of bombs, and shooting them (limited ammo).
HO scenes have the most variety I’ve ever seen, and include unlocking panels to reveal interactive lists, matching pairs of similar objects, interactive silhouette, mega-HO list (both untimed and timed), replace in scene, multiples, anachronistic objects, find the given insets in the scene, and more.
I won’t list the entire page and a half of puzzles and mini-games from my notes, but here are a few highlights:
• On a grid containing icons of brightly colored animals, find the match to the first in an advancing line of icons before they go offscreen.
• Presented with branching and disconnected pathways containing colored portals, chart a path for the ball to the exit.
• On a grid containing a pattern of colored balls, use the balls along the four sides (which will roll until they meet an obstacle) to make groups of four balls; clear the grid.
• In a field of randomly moving red and green triangles and squares, mouse over only the green triangles and red squares to remove them while avoiding the red triangles and green squares.
• Presented with two grids of squares with similar patterns, click one square to make the patterns match. When a square is clicked, the squares to the left, right, top, and bottom will change. (three levels)
• Find sets of three alien symbols from a grid full of them before the clock runs out.
• Move six colored arrows to their matching goals, using the arrows to push each other. The arrow can’t be rotated, so planning is required.
• Play a unique solitaire game until you achieve 2000 points. Play cards from the bottom stacks onto the top stacks in descending numerical order. Score points by clicking on the top stacks to drop them. More points are scored if you drop stacks with more cards.
And there are dozens more, many of them original!
SIGHTSEEING...
The graphics are done well with fantastic backgrounds, realistic NPCs, and beautifully detailed close-ups. Animation is limited, but smooth. While the full palette is used, there are no garish or nightmarish colors, none of the neon pinks, blues, greens, and purples that seem to taint other games.
SOUNDBOARD...
I’m afraid I can’t comment on the music, as I was listening to the news in the background while I played. There are no voiceovers, but it doesn’t detract from gameplay. Environmental sounds were appropriate.
TOOLBOX...
Inventory locks open and includes plus items. The jump map indicates where actions are available. The hint button (at right) offers more detailed instructions when clicked during a mini-game. There’s a journal, but it’s superfluous.
OH BOTHER!
I think one of the mini-games was buggy. Either that or I failed to understand the instructions. Other than that, I experienced no technical difficulties playing on my iMac with OS 10.11.3.
OOH! PIECE OF CANDY...
For an SE, the extras are amazing. Replay 30 of the mini-games. Revisit the game scenes to play the “find five insets” type of HO in each. Revisit them again as jigsaw puzzles. And there are a ton of levels of Match-3 in five different variations. Oh, and performance achievements.
EPILOGUE...
Like Invasion: Lost in Time, this is nearly a CE for an SE price. It’s a lengthy game and full of HO scenes, puzzles, mini-games, and activities from end to end. I highly recommend both games in this series, and hope we’ll see more from this dev. Happy gaming!

This is the second edition of Invasion, the first being "Lost in Time". Once again we journey with Mike on another excellent expedition. This time to an Island in the Pacific where his plan crashes. I think both editions are great SE games just different story lines. You don't need to play the first to understand this story, although they do refer to the "aliens" from the first game a bit. By Itera Labs, it is a pretty basic, bare-bones sort of HOG. There are just two difficulty settings, casual and difficult, with the difference only being the speed the hint refills. Keep a dictionary handy, if you want to know exactly what your inventory items are, or what you are missing! I was just curious, it isn't needed for the game. I think the translators used a thesaurus and picked the most obscure, archaic meanings for simple items, as well as using scientific terms. I never took chemistry, so didn't know a "permanganic acid" was one that is unstable and only exists in a dilute solution! But, there it was... sitting there for us to use. After all, don't you ever run across a permanganic acid in a pile of rubble? LOL. I really enjoyed this Scify thriller and I recommend playing the first Invasion too. The gameplay has no voice overs only written dialogue. Some words are lost in translation but doesn't affect gameplay. During the adventure HOS always sparkle.
HOS:
1- three silhouette items open an interactive list.
2- the same
Although the scenes are pretty much junk-piles they are enjoyable and well made.
PUZZLES:
Many more than HOS.
1- click on balls to remove from board, leaving no more than 10. But... clicking one may remove more than one, or add more! I skipped this, it was taking too long and frustrating me.
2- position arrows to point at certain flowers. Easy.
3- move balls to correct color. I skipped, although I think I'd be able to do it with time.
4- "Hit all the aims." Which meant, using a repaired "arbalest," aim and hit targets. I couldn't figure out how to control the arbalest to aim.
5- switch tiles to restore the picture. This reveals the story from a notebook we find.
EXTRAS:
No collectibles, but you can replay HOS and puzzles you have completed. There are match-3 puzzles in the "crystals" area. Also, jigsaws of scenes from the game. These and the match-3 are accessible at all times, even without completing the game.
I recommend this for everyone, beginners to expert. If you have been waiting to use a free game coupon this is one to consider. Enjoy! Show less

Not sure whose fault that is, but whoever tested this game, wasn't thorough enough. It lacks glitzy graphics, and cut scenes, and live actors, or voice overs, but that's not what is important for the games that I love. The story is good, and the scenes are really cool. The puzzles and mini-games are outstanding, and this is what I play games for. They are all so different with some challenging, and some just plain fun. Why can't the recent HO games that come out that put so much effort into the looks and sounds of their games, and make them more entertaining like this one. Out of all the games that I have purchased, after I play them, they are uninstalled, and forgot about. Invasion 1 and 2 are kept, as I will play them over and over again. These games don't need a collector's version, as alot of the puzzles and mini-games, are replayable, and there are lots of bonus games, and also achievements, to keep you challanged. This game is great value, and I wish that BFG would offer more like this. Show less

Only flaw is the "English as a second language" interpretation. Awkward. But I don't care because great game.

Pros: gorgeous, colorful, detailed sci-fi graphics, each scene a pleasure to the eye. The music is cinema quality and carries the atmosphere. Excellent (and occasionally needed) hint and map system. Smooth game play.
Cons: you can't even call them cons, and that's the charm of the game - the parodic, straight-faced dialogue will leave you laughing out loud with the devs, not at them. "We must get to the dome." "Yes, we must." I wouldn't change a line of it.
More Pros: the mini-games. Yep, this one is a mini-gamer's paradise, most of them quite original, many short, some with a challenging wrinkle or two. There's an unexpected value here - I still play the first Invasion's mini-games several times a week and will do so with Invasion II's games as well. It's a genuine bonus that's better than any bonus chapter. The plot isn't, actually, all that important.
Not everyone will love these games but I adore them.
