The game play is great, the puzzles were fun (albeit I don't always have the patience to struggle for long, so skip a few#, the voices and sounds were very good, the graphics top notch as normal.
However, I have to say my main gripe is that I got this game purely because it was a Shadow Wolf game and I did expect it to tie into the others in the series at least in some way #e.g. like Crimson Moon - where the main characters are friends of the family in the first games and there are at least pictorial references to the other games). This one doesn't mention them at all - it is completely unrelated to the previous games so please don't be expecting that when you play.
That said - as mentioned above, it is a good game - I played the Collectors Edition and it really is worth the money. To me, the bonus game jarred slightly in that her father is suddenly the villain of the piece but again a very good game.
I liked having werewolf traits to use now and again and look forward to the next one. Show less

ERS Shadow Wolf Mysteries 5: Curse of Wolfhill is a great addition to the series. The series in general tells a story of a special wolf curse in a family. You really need to check out the entire series if you are not familiar with it. In this particular game, you and your father are forced to go back to the very place you ran away from years ago. Your cousin is in trouble, and you know it because he had sent your family's symbol. This means that you are going to face the wolf curse 'werewolves!' that you'd been trying to avoid. It is a very dark and dramatic story, but it is also very interesting, ingaging, and addictive. The audio-visuals create an absolutely matching atmosphere for the story. They are mostly grey and blue but the story isn't a happy one either. These great quality graphics and music are part of the downloadable media extras. There is a bonus game with its own story for you are discover. I REALLY liked the bonus game story. The game has four levels, one of which is custom. You can adjust things like hint recharge "5-200 seconds" and punishment for clicking there. 17 hidden object scenes and 12 puzzles are re-playable. You get a strategy guide and a map. The game is very interactive as you proceed with the story. There is a lot of inventory to pick up and use elsewhere. The puzzles are interesting and can be hard or as easy as you want. You can set the difficulty level according to your skills in the settings. The hidden object scenes come in all known types of searches. You get lists, silhouettes, matching etc... Collectibles and achievements make the game more fun and add a little extra challenge. The SE version doesn't give you the bonus game which is related to the main story. For some this is a deciding factor on which to choose. A four wolf powers make the game really cool especially for the werewolves fans. This edition isn't necessarily my favorite but it holds its own with respect to all the previous editions. Here are the others in the order that I remember playing. Enjoy!
*Curse of the Full Moon
*Bane of the Family
*Cursed Wedding
*Under the Crimson Moon
*Tracks of Terror (Editors choice award)
*Curse of Wolfhill

I have been playing HOGs for 7 yrs. and still enjoy a good game. I believe many have gotten burned out on them and therefore only give complaint reviews, which isn't really fair to the developers. No wonder we are getting fewer and fewer games. If you are new to the HOG genre, please don't be discouraged by many of the reviews. Try the demo and see if you like it. If you do enjoy playing a game, please take the time to write a review saying so. I'm sure the developers and BFG will appreciate your opinion.

It was a great story. It kept me intent on playing it out. The ending could have been better. I guess I expect the endings to be like the ending of a book and not be so abrupt and have more explanation or tying up the end neatly.

Your ancestors have endured a family curse for many generations. Desperate to find a cure, they sought help from the Druids of Wolfhill. The price they paid would leave future generations forever indebted to them, until that fateful night when Henry decided to flee with his daughter. Several years have passed, and your father has taught you to control your curse, but tonight, you must return to Wolfhill for the first time, to rescue cousin Neil and his family from the same fate you escaped from all those years ago.

The graphics in this latest edition of Shadow Wolf Mysteries: Curse of Wolfhill are beautifully hand drawn, I prefer the crisp, computer generated graphics, but these artists deserve a pat on the back for their creativity. Because you are a "coming of age" werewolf, you will hone your special abilities such as a keen eyesight, a keen sense of smell, and werewolf strength, which are obtained once you have found enough Viscum Lupinorum, a rare mistletoe that is native to Wolfhill. There is an icon on the bottom right side of the inventory bar to keep track of the mistletoe, with a meter indicating how much you'll have to gather before the next "power" will kick in. There are the usual complex inventory items to interact with, and custom difficulty modes available as well. The Collector's Edition has Achievements to earn, and Collectible Family items such as photo's, and personal Miller family items.
The Hidden Object Scenes are varied with Interactive List finds, finding items that match the Red Text words during a background story of the Millers, Fragment finds, and silhouetted Shape finds. Some of the items are fairly well hidden which presents a nice challenge. My biggest complaint is that some of the scenes are repeated, which becomes really boring the second time around.
The Mini Games are decent but nothing really new, some are available in Casual or Hard modes. The following are brief descriptions of the games you'll encounter during the demo:
1) Move the hands in the correct order.
2) Rearrange the windmill blades so that all tiles of the same color are on the same blade.
3) Select matching pairs of toys.
4) Press the fingers in the order shown in demo.
5) Move the pin all the way to the finish without touching the sides of the lock.
6) Extend all of the spiders legs to open the lock, moving one leg may affect others.
7) Slide the vacuum tubes to their sockets to overload the system, then move the elements to clear a path for the tubes.
The Collector's Edition has 4 Music Soundtracks, 20 Videos, 7 Wallpapers, 8 Concept Art Pictures, 4 Screensavers, 12 replayable Mini Games, 17 replayable Hidden Object Scenes, 17 Achievements, a built in Strategy Guide and a Bonus Adventure, enjoy! Show less

I found this to be an okay game. Nothing to really write home about, but it passed a few hours on a rainy Florida afternoon. It was shorter than I anticipated, compared to the others in this series, but it was fine.
I was a bit surprised in the lack of action in the graphics. There as little to talk about. Colors were fine and the voice overs were acceptable. It was like they had run out of ways to wow us. Perhaps it is time to retire the series and move on. The music was the same as all the other and was a bit gritting on the nerves. Pretty much the same thing over and over. There are several degrees of difficulty of which I chose the custom so I could set the skip and hint to its quickest times.
There was a good mixture of hidden objects and mini games. Nothing we haven't seen before and several minis were repeated throughout the game. I didn't like that at all. Hidden objects were varied and clear with several different types offered. You have an interactive map which I found very necessary in getting around. It did show places where things were to be done.
Story was pretty much the same as most of them. It was difficult for me to follow for some reason, and didn't make sense at times, kind of like I skipped ahead and then came back. It just seemed to lack originality or something didn't appeal to me. Like I said, maybe it's time to retire the werewolves wherever werewolves retire.
I'm not sorry I bought the game, but it sure could have been better. Give the demo a try and perhaps you will have a better experience than I. Show less

- Story: Werewolf story. You are going to help your cousin and his family. An evil druid makes experiments with the cursed people from Wolfhill and suppresses them.
- Difficulty can be customized: Tutorial, sparkles, map issues, glitter, helping texts and hint / skip recharge.
- Tools: you have an interactive map. And your own wolf strength, which will be increased through mistletoes during the game.
- HO’s: Nicely done. Mostly description and silhouettes. Some were interactive.
You can’t switch to another mode.
- Mini games: Nothing new. Some could be played either in a casual or in a hard mode. A lot were with sliding or with rotating. These are not my favorites. But all in all, they were a good piece of work and quite challenging.
- Adventure part: Not that easy w/o helping texts. Tough it was (mostly) logical, it wasn’t too obvious, so you have either to think about or you have to try a lot.
Dislikes:
Slightly unrealistic: a bell in a turtle? The escape from the prison through pebbles?
Length: I needed about 3 hours for completing.
Evil laugh: and once again the evil laugh. The bad guys always do have such a gruesome laugh. This is so poor. Isn’t there anything else to distinguish the evil ones?

Transporter map was good and very needed as this game was all over the place. A long game which got to be a little tiresome toward the end. I got a bit tired of checking the map all the time and just used the hint to move around.
The inventory list could get large at times but for the most part you used what you picked up fairly soon. The "wolf power" buttons could be a bit confusing especially toward the ending climax. Animations, graphics, color and voice overs were very good..some dark spots in the HOS but not a problem. I always turn the music down so not sure what part it may have played. Same-o, same-o storyline but certainly worth the full price paid. Show less
