In Vampire Legends The Count of New Orleans we follow the story of the infamous Carter Brothers who were convicted of mass murder in 1932 and executed shortly thereafter. According to the story the body count for the Carters was around 14 people but there may have been even more victims. As a journalist interested in paranormal phenomena you travel to New Orleans to find out more about the Carter Brothers and their alleged tie to vampirism; however, maybe you have stumbled into something more than you could have imagined. Follow the clues and if you are lucky you might survive your trip to New Orleans.
The game offers a custom mode of gameplay so you can click on various settings to customize the game for the way you like to play. The game to be a blend of computerized and hand drawn artwork – a style that is not my favorite as I am a huge fan of excellent hand drawn art. The game has voiceovers are excellent and much more realistic than those in some casual games – probably some of the best. I love the Count’s French accent when we finally meet him.
Your tools include an interactive map as well as a journal that keeps track of your tasks and various information that you gather during your adventure. You also have a camera and the ability to develop film in your makeshift darkroom. You can transport quickly to your darkroom from any location during the game when you need to develop the photos you have snapped.
The HOS are interactive and okay but nothing out of the ordinary from what we have come to expect in the HOPA genre of games; however, I did enjoy the variety and the interaction that was required to complete some of the scenes. The mini-games were excellent, and although none of them were frustratingly difficult, they were still excellent.
I am not a huge fan of vampire games but the Vampire Legends games are excellent. The game has some scary moments that even though I knew were coming still caused me to jump and that is always a bit of extra fun. After playing the entire game I was still impressed. The mini-games were very good and each one added to my enjoyment of the gameplay AND they fit well into the storyline. If you like vampire inspired games then you will probably enjoy The Count of New Orleans. Please try the demo to see if this is a game you will enjoy as we all have different tastes. Show less

I absolutely loved this game! I have always had a fascination with vampires which got even more intense when I started reading Anne Rice Novels and watching Forever Knight back in the early 90's. This is the first time in a long time I got that same thrill I got back then playing this wonderfully crafted game. I loved the scenery and some of the characters voices were fantastic (The guy in the cemetery and the women who helped me make a gris-gris) There was only one place that I thought was a little weird yet still funny as heck, I'm trying to take out a vampire by throwing silver things at him lol.
The game has a really great story, the mini games were pretty good and not the same old same but what I really like were the hidden object scenes, some were straight up find things but others were put items into the scene and these had other interactions going on as well. The flow of the game was perfect for me, not to hard and not to easy didn't have to use the hint all that much and that's always a bonus in my book. I got so immersed in the game and story that I played from beginning to end with only stopping to have a few bathroom breaks, I even ate my dinner while playing lol..
I really really wish I had purchased the CE of this game because I didn't want it to end! I know this is one of the few games I am going to replay over and over. Yes, I highly recommend this game!

Are you ready for another Vampire Legends? This last installment is based on the true story of the Carter Brothers, a pair of serial murderers that haunted New Orleans in the 1930s. As a paranormal investigator, you visited New Orleans and witnessed with your own eyes, the ghost of this monstrous sibling. Are there really vampires in New Orleans, are the Carter Brothers back for their bloodthirsty revenge?
The strongest aspect of Vampire Legends: The Count of New Orleans is undoubtedly its storyline. The Count of New Orleans delivers such solid storyline that is both suspenseful and creepy, and the fact that it is based on a true story makes it even better – this game just feels different from what we have been offered with lately. The game progresses as you meet new characters, and although I thought some of dialogs were a little awkward, the characters were interesting nonetheless.
Vampire Legends: The Count of New Orleans also has quite a solid production. The graphics might not be the best in the industry, but they are realistic, sharp and reflect on the eerie mood of the game well. The scenes in the game can look somewhat bland, as there are not that many details and things to look at in each. However, the soundtracks in the game are mainly piano ballads, all of which are really pleasant.
In addition, Vampire Legends: The Count of New Orleans is professionally crafted. Regardless, the game could have benefited from a more challenging gameplay and some more creative ideas. As for now, the adventure portion of the game is predictable, the hidden object scenes are just fine and the puzzles are mostly easy. The game also comes with a Camera and a Dark Room, in which you can use to take and develop photos – a smart and relevant tool!
CE or SE Version? I chose the Collector's Edition
It was a blast to play Vampire Legends: The Count of New Orleans and it took me over four and a half hours to complete the game, plus another hour for the equally-captivating bonus chapter. The Collector’s Edition also includes a strategy guide, achievements, collectibles, wallpapers, screensavers and soundtracks. Cheers and Happy Gaming with this one!!!
Also in this series:
Vampire Legends: The True Story of Kisilova
Vampire Legends: The Untold Story of Elizabeth Bathory

Beatrice Lefort was the only person who made it out of John and Wayne Carter's house alive, in July of 1932. The two brothers had already murdered 14 people, which were discovered without a drop of blood left! Prior to Miss Lefort's escape, the Carter Brothers were just ordinary everyday kind of people. Two brothers living in the French Quarters of New Orleans, working for a living at the docks, typical neighbors that kept to themselves. Au contraire mon frere, these are no ordinary men, and the people of N'Awlins believe they are vampires! As a Paranormal Investigator, you've seen it all, surely vampires don't exist, but lately you've uncovered enough evidence to know that, when St. Germain want's to have a little chit-chat with you, you might want to RUN!
POSSIBLE SPOILER ALERTS:
The game takes place several years after the Carter Brothers demise, and focuses on the Vampire aspect of the story, so this really shouldn't spoil the game's plot.
(This paragraph is about the true story/legend of the Carter Brothers in New Orleans)
This game is based upon the true story of the Carter Brothers, a woman did escape and alert the authorities. When the police arrived at their apartment, there were 4 victims tied to chairs with slits in their wrists, not deep enough to kill them, but according to Beatrice, the brothers fed upon their blood. The police found more than a dozen other victims in their apartment, and waited patiently for the brothers to return home from working on the docks of the Mississippi. It took all 8 police officers to restrain the brothers who seemed to have strength no human their size should have had. The brothers were executed and laid to rest in the Carter Family Vault, and when another family member died several years later, the vault was reopened, and to everyone's surprise, there was no trace of John and Wayne Carter, no bodies, no evidence of foul play, nothing. Even today, there are reports of sightings of the Carter Brothers in the French Quarters, the residents of the apartment where the brothers lived say they see the two of them frequently.
It's been a long time since a game has ended with such a fantastic cliffhanger. This is how every demo should end, if the player is on the edge of their seat because of the storyline, the devs have done their job well. The demo's ending is kind of like watching a season finale, the kind of ending that leaves you scrambling to hit the "buy now" icon and wondering why it seems to be taking forever to activate. In reality you're just too anxious to find out what happens to Angeline the paranormal journalist! Because you are a journalist, you naturally have a camera for photo ops. Each time you take a picture, you will rush back to your hotel room bathroom which has been transformed into a makeshift darkroom, so you can develope the photo, using step by step instructions shown. The Collector's Edition (is the one I recommend, and purchased) has Achievements to earn and 52 Mardi Gras Masks to collect, some of which are fairly well hidden.
The Hidden Object Scenes aren't the best, but not horrible either, most of them are Interactive List Finds. There are also slightly Progressive Interactive scenes and scenes where you return items from the inventory bar into the scene where they belong.
The Mini Games vary from basic and simple to somewhat complex, but nothing too hard or frustrating. Below are brief descriptions of some of the games you'll encounter during the demo:
1) Cross out the men on a phone book, then cross off all names that don't start with a B and end in e.
2) Interact with train track pieces until the correct path has been chosen.
3) Swap puzzle pieces to restore a map. (surprisingly more difficult than you'd expect)
4) Connect symbols using cables to create the symbols shown when two shapes are combined.
The Collector's Edition has 14 Achievements, Wallpapers, Screensavers, Music Soundtracks, 52 Collectible Mardi Gras Masks, a built in Strategy Guide and a Bonus Chapter, enjoy Show less

This review is based on my second playing of this game. Evidently I played it before but became frustrated with it within the first 7 minutes and quit. However, this time I played the complete demo and found the game fascinating if you can disregard the obviously fake accents. This is one of the biggest turnoffs for me in this game (maybe that's why I only played 7 minutes first time) but it is something that can be overlooked.
Some of the scenes are a little amateurish and could have been improved but the story moves along at a fairly rapid pace and there isn't that constant back and forth that is so prevalent in HO's these days. The only real back and forth is to the darkroom but that is necessary and not an inconvenience as some suggest if it is done the correct way plus it advances the story with helpful clues.
Some of the HO's can be a little tricky but not impossible and the mini games are fun
Graphics are bright and cheery and dark and sinister in their correct places. Music just adds to the overall enjoyment.
I recommend this one if you can get through or dismiss some of the quirks.
Maybe not a 5 star game but not a 1 star game either.
Play the demo and decide for yourself.
Have fun!

Good stuff: This is the first of the Vampire Legends series that I found ordinary. The usual game elements are present along with the story which is undecided on which time period it is set in. The screen said 1938 and the photo developing area set up in the hotel bathroom would tend to support that. Unfortunately much of the other details are spread over other decades. If you get beyond that, you'll play a very ordinary game with an ordinary story striving to be scary.
Bad Stuff: It is so average it is sad. And running back to the hotel bathroom to develop photos every few minutes gets tired fast. There are some eerie moments if you can buy into the story-line, but it is still just another game and I have several hundred now. I don't want this one.
Please try the demo for yourself.

If nothing changes, why do it seventeen times? Seems like they are artificially lengthening a very short game.
There are some good points, to be sure. The game looks cartoony in a good way, and the voice acting is top notch. The minigames are average in terms of difficulty, and the HO scenes are divided between traditional ones and placing items into a scene. Unfortunately, the technical issues ruined any big positives for me. The story was interesting and not well known, but they didn't do justice here. Pass. Show less
