I am surprised that only 5 people before me have rated this game. I thought it was fantastic. I almost didn't buy it because it was rated 3 stars, but I am so glad I did. Loved the characters and the story and loved the mini games and the hidden objects. I love fairy tale like games!
I recommend this game!

Completed SE: I liked this and I recommend it. I felt it was bit short. Though familiar with the fairy tale characters, it was a different story, which was a nice change. I liked the idea of finding the torn pieces of the pages and bringing the missing princesses back to the Fairyland. Since there was five princesses on the Council I expected to do five of their stories not just three. The ending was good concept but very abrupt and could have been elaborated on more. Also, the hunter chasing the princesses down in the real world just dropped out of the game completely and the Queen who took over Fairyland did as well. This left me wandering what happened to them. There were parts of the story that I felt was missing.
The graphics were the same excellent quality used by the developers. The music score awesome. The puzzles where good.(There was some new ones I've not seen before!) The map was nice though I found most of objectives and items in the general area. So, I really didn't use the map that much.
I would given five stars I felt the story was missing some things and other things felt rushed or incomplete.
I do recommend this game to enjoy and relax. Show less

Cindy Allen has been experiencing hallucinations, at first glance, she sees an ordinary person, then they turn into extraordinary people of well known Fairytales! It isn't until she visits a psychiatrist that turns into the White Rabbit of Alice In Wonderland, that she learns the real truth, she isn't Cindy Allen, she is a Princess from Fairyland! The Cheshire Cat explains that someone tried to steal an important artifact that supports all life within Fairyland, The Book of Fairy Tales. Unfortunately, the book was damaged and some of it's pages and characters were scattered across Fairyland and the real world! Cindy doesn't have much time to figure things out because the Huntsman from Snow White is hunting her down as he too is searching for the missing pages.
That ridiculous grinning Cheshire Cat agrees to join the princess on this amazing adventure, and he sure can talk up a storm! Surface has had a few duds lately but The Lost Tale is certainly not one of 'em, however, this doesn't seem like a storyline that should be offered in a Surface game, it seems more like a Dark Parable storyline to me. The Collector's Edition has those famous hidden, Surface Red and White Forget-me-Not's to collect, some of which are very well blended into the scenery as well as some of the zoom zones. The Collector's Edition also offers the usual Achievements to earn and 12 Morphing Fairytale Characters that give a brief bio about the character as well as their alter ego's.
The Hidden Object Scenes are varied with Interactive List finds, Matching Pair finds, Progressive Silhouetted Shape finds and even scenes that have you placing items from the list into the scene correctly. Some of the HOP's are multi-layered and have two or three different types within the same scene.
The Mini Games are fairly easy, none seem to be frustrating either. The following are brief descriptions of some of the games you'll encounter during the demo, an a few memorable games after the demo:
1) Match the fairytale character to the logical diagnoses by swapping characters.
2) Select the arrows to steer the car towards home, avoiding obstacles in the road.
3) Get Cinderella to the ball by interacting with objects in the scene.
4) Find out when the clock stopped and set the hands to show the correct time.
5) Reconstruct Alice's memories by dragging the three clouds on the left to adjust the memory fragments to fit together. Moving some clouds may cause some fragments to disappear and others to appear.
6) Place the mythical creatures on their place of origin by swapping the creatures.
7) Repair the net by selecting three icons with symbols that make up the samples shown.
8) Jump wolves in three different puzzles so that only one wolf remains.
9) Rearrange the disks on the Magic Stone so that it shows the cycle of night into day in a clockwise formation.
10) Use several different magnets to guide a key through a tube maze.
The Collector's Edition has 13 replayable Puzzles and 15 replayable Hidden Object Scenes, Collectible Red and White hidden flowers in each scene, 12 Morphing Fairytale Characters, Achievements to earn, 10 Wallpapers, 1 Screensaver, 10 Concept Art pictures, 5 Music Soundtracks, a built in Strategy Guide and a Bonus Chapter, enjoy! Something a little different. But it was short. What I like the most the Surface games is that they take you different places. This did that but just too short. 2016

I won't go in to the story here as many reviewers have done a great job before me. I cannot comment on the voiceovers/characters as I play all my games silent. Those American twangs are too much sometimes and it puts me off.

Purchased and played the SE version. I thought the puzzles were fun and the HOS were OK. I enjoyed the storyline - five princesses who seem to have been replaced by imposters and Fairy-tale land is failing bigtime. The wicked Queen has been the initial instigator but it has all got out of hand.
There are various adventures to explore, along the way you collect parts of a page of a fairy-tale. When you get all the parts of the page you move on. After three pages, I got to meet Gretel at the end who had the original fairytale book. I replaced my three pages and voila the game was over. What about the other two princesses?????
Can't believe this only took me a couple of hours to complete. Good fun but too short. Show less

Your tale was one of the affected stories and you ended up in the real world as Cindy Allen. Luckily your memory started to come back and you will need to straighten out the mess made of both the real world and that of fairy tales and find out what started this crisis. You'd better hurry as the Huntsman is hunting you and the missing pages!
Good stuff: Four levels of game play, beautiful art work, multilevel and varied HOPS, mini-games, good VOs, and a very wicked looking Huntsman out to get you.
Bad stuff: This is not the Surface we've come to expect from the series. Whether that is a good or bad thing depends on how much you like fairy tales and this story line. I felt as though I was watching an episode of a popular TV series, which I don't care for. And didn't I just save the world yesterday?
Mostly this is just another fairy tale based game with bad guy, no better or worse than many others.
This will definitely be a game for which you need to play the demo. Then you can decide for or against saving the fairy tale kingdom/world again.

There are four levels of difficulty, including custom, and the hints are transporting. There's also a Chesire Cat who accompanies you and meows annoyingly whenever you click the hint button. He may turn out to be a helper animal after the demo. Dunno.
On the downside, there's nothing here you would call new, imaginative, or challenging, including the storyline. And unless you're new to the pond or this is your first HOPA game, you will have seen similar HOS and puzzles in many other games. For that reason, I think this would be a good introduction for players new to the genre.
Please do play the demo before making up your mind. Show less

It took everything I had to complete the demo. I agree the graphics and animations were well done, but the storyline was ridiculous and silly.
Gameplay consisted of a lot of varied HOS and foolish puzzles....and that Cat hint was annoying. Voice-overs were grating and the cut scenes and dialog were boring. Some you could skip others you just had to endure.

The game was slow and cumbersome. You spent a lot of time running around for one thing to return to another spot. Scenes just seemed to pass by very slowly. Basically the game was just a lot of HOS and slow moving, and a convoluted storyline. Not even a buy for me on a special. Show less

This is really more puzzle than hidden object-m matching pairs, fix the difference, etc. Too much moving from scene to scene and having to guess where you needed to go. Just wouldn't recommend it.
