I've played a lot of different characters in a lot of different games. I've been a female detective, I've been a male detective, I've been a mother, I've been a father, I've been a sister, I've been a brother, I've been a witch, I've been an Aunt, I've been a Princess, I've been a Queen (I don't think I've been a King??) I've even been a vampire before! This however, is the first time I've been a bird, a hamster and a snail, yep, for about 5 minutes I joined the slug kingdom! There's a perfectly good explanation for all this shapeshifting, it's because I'm an Alchemist who can whip up some pretty unusual recipes with just a few plants and berries, and just when I need them the most.

This certainly is an unusual game to say the least. Even though I'm sarcastically describing this game's plot and features, I had fun playing yet another game where the King calls upon my services. (at least I'm not a Princess, but now I think I want to be a King) No Alchemist would be credible without a portable Alchemist Box, so naturally I have a space age (you'll see what I mean) state of the art box that allows me to whip up a ton of shapeshifting potions. The icons to the left of the inventory bar will show you as either human or animal just in case you forget that you just drank a huge bottle of the potion you just got done whipping up. I just hope none of them wear off too soon, I'll really get myself into a pickle then! Each scene has a collectible Jigsaw Puzzle piece to find, and some of the scenes have collectible Figurines to find which also give you brief descriptions about them, such as Trolls and Fairies.

The Hidden Object Scenes are pretty decent, and every HOP was different. Just in the demo alone, there were Interactive list finds, Morphs, Multiple of the same objects, Multiples of sharp objects, Fragmented Object finds and even an interactive soup recipe with Silhouetted Shape finds. You can opt to play a Matching Pair game where you flip over tokens that aren't blocked by other tokens to find matching pairs, if no pairs are available you can click the arrows to rearrange the tokens.

The Mini Games are fairly easy, but once again, they were fun to solve. Below are brief descriptions of some of the games you'll encounter during the demo:

1) Follow instructions to set the temperature and all the conditions before pouring the ingredients of 3 different recipes.

2) Reach the castle, when the arrow stops moving click to open up a problem to solve: A-use directional arrows in a specific order to maintain balance. B-find the right path through mountains by clicking on the mountain that stands out from the others. C-find pairs of identical birds. D-repeat the sequence of clouds lit up by thunder and lightning.

3) Place stained glass fragments correctly to form a picture.

4) Click on the thorny vines in a specific order and drag them to the bottom of the screen to remove them.

5) Ring the bells in the order depicted on the beam above them, using the cypher clue sheet to discover which bell corresponds to which musical note.

This Collector's Edition has 8 Wallpapers, 6 Concept Art pictures, 5 Music Soundtracks, replayable Hidden Object games, replayable Mini Games, 15 Collectible Character Figurines, 34 Collectible Jigsaw Puzzle pieces, 15 Achievements to earn, Fairytale Character Bios, a built in Strategy Guide and a Bonus Chapter. Queen’s Quest 2 Stories of the Forgotten Past is a beautifully crafted fantasy game that is so well-designed that you feel like you’ve stepped into the story. I love everything about this game and for me it is an instant addition to my gaming library.

In Queen’s Quest 2 you play the game as an alchemist who has shapeshifting abilities. Recently you concocted a potion that will allow humans to fly – an awesome discovery that adds to your shape-shifting abilities. As the game begins you are called to the castle for a meeting with the king. Wolf, who was the King’s head of security and friend, has been killed and the King wants you to investigate the murder to find out who is responsible. Of course, the King’s general doesn’t feel you are a capable detective and he lets the King know it so, as a test, the King requests that you find and repair a malfunctioning portal. Once that little task is done your adventure begins.

The graphics are gorgeous and full of beautiful color even though there are some darker scenes included as well. The characters are all realistic with excellent voiceovers and a dialogue that makes sense. There are many fantasy characters as well and I happened to love the talking cauldron early in the game whose antics had me laughing.

Your tools include an alchemy kit where you can prepare various potions using ingredients that are found as you move through the game. There is also an interactive map that does change at times depending upon who you might be since your view of the realm may change from time to time.

The HOP scenes are interactive and some have a bit of a twist. Some of the items are well-hidden and I did have to use the hint button a couple of times. For the most part, the HOPS were excellent with gorgeous graphics. Most of the puzzles seemed easy but they were still a lot of fun. If you read my reviews you know that I enjoy puzzles in a game but I don’t always need super challenging puzzles as sometimes it is just nice to play a game with puzzles that are a bit more relaxing.

The CE package has 40 collectible puzzle pieces and 15 figurines to find as well as 15 achievements to earn. There are morphing objects but I am not sure if these are only included in the CE version of the game since they can be found in some HOPS. There is a 46 page in-game strategy guide that provides some extra help if needed. The remaining extras are standard with the bonus game, concept art, wallpapers and music. Some of the extras remain hidden but I guess they include a replay of HOPS and puzzles.

As I mentioned earlier I love this game. I think for right now I have had my fill of creepy games and have been waiting for something that is colorful and entertaining. Queen’s Quest 2 Stories of the Forgotten Past fills the bill and is like a breath of fresh air (particularly when I am soaring among the clouds – lol). Another nice thing about the game is that although it is a fantasy game there is no evil menace that wants to take over the world. I love the fairy tale storyline that incorporates different tales that I read as a child. Although this game might not be one that everyone will like, I think there are many gamers out there who will enjoy this game. As always, I recommend that you try the demo first to see if Queen’s Quest Stories of the Forgotten Past is a game you will enjoy. Show less

I don't expect a good HOG CE in the middle of the week, but boy was I surprised! I'm not familiar with this developer, but this is a great game! I never leave reviews, but I felt I had to for this one!

This is just as good a game as by those big shot developers like Elephant, Eipix, and Mad Head! Give it a chance fishies! You won't be disappointed!

I recommend this game!

This game has it all for me. The adventure, beautiful graphics and and array of characters; human and animal, are a plus, as are the voices. the task are varied and not dull with has been of late. Love the story line as well and Alchemist has plenty to do to solve this case. You wont be disappointed! An instant buy for me!

It was like a breath of fresh air after so many blood, gore, and psychologically disturbing games lately. Here is one that you can play with your children or grandchildren and neither one of you will have nightmares. There are subtle nods to well known tales such as Little Red Riding Hood and Robin Hood.
Graphics are bright colorful and almost Disney-like. Voice overs good. HOP are varied and puzzles relatively easy.
This is not a game for those hardcore gamers but you do get a choice of levels so you can make it as challenging as you want. Show less

Absolutely loved it after a few minutes into it. I love the animation, clear graphics. Caught my attention and had me hooked. That is what a great game should be! Buying this game today and relax for the rest of my evening:)

I'll be getting this as soon as BF has another good sale. I probably won't even wait for the SE. Usually I wait and get SE because I could care less about some of the bells and whistles in CE. This game held my interest through the demo and I was really sad it ended. It moved to my number 1 slot of games to buy.

OVERVIEW: Welcome to a world of whimsy in this 5-star game full of magic. Magical creatures and enchanted items abound in this uplifting game, in which you are able to fly! This beautifully crafted game can be enjoyed by all members of the family. I, personally, do not like fantasy games; however, I do admire the craftsmanship of the developer in creating this lovely game.

The gaming script is well-written. The story is a variation of the themes of “Red Riding Hood” and “Robin Hood.” You play an alchemist, carrying your own handy alchemy kit, to create potions. In this case, you are solving a murder mystery - fairy tale style! It is a well-crafted game with some very creative puzzles. There a variety of collectibles including 15 figurines and 34 jigsaw puzzle pieces. You receive an alchemy kit and will be preparing all types of potions throughout the game!

HOP SCENES: The scenes are lists of items with some interactivity and silhouette scenes. To me, this is the weakest part of the game. They are decent; however, not as well-crafted as the puzzles.

PUZZLES: The puzzles are all easy; however, they are all creatively designed. They include an assembly puzzle to create a potion. There is also include a multiple-step map puzzle in which you traverse a route to a castle with four puzzles dealing the obstacles of wind, mountains, birds, and lightning. The other puzzles include a jigsaw puzzle to create a picture, a couple of sequence puzzles, and a matching puzzle involving DNA from the crime scene.

STORY: You, as an alchemist, have been summoned to the castle to solve a crime. Wolf has been murdered. You, as a fairy land detective will traverse all over the kingdom to get evidence and solve the murder.

A. Assembly puzzle. Follow a recipe to create potion by setting the conditions (between four settings for temperature) and addition the correct ingredients according to a spell book. Rating: 2
B. Multiple-step Map puzzle. Interact with a map and solve problems which halt you from proceeding to a castle. Every time the arrow stops, you must tackle a mini-puzzle to continue in your flight.
