Not a kid's game

Saying this is a game for children is misleading. I also have the penguin game, so I knew what to expect here. The first several levels are drop-dead easy and quick. I'm on level 42 and by that level, they are very much more difficult than the earlier levels. Saying this is a game for children is misleading. I also have the penguin game, so I knew what to expect here. The first several levels are drop-dead easy and quick. I'm on level 42 and by that level, they are very much more difficult than the earlier levels. It starts out for kids, but quickly changes to a much more difficult game where you have to plan ahead and think things through since you have a limited number of moves and may not have enough coins to purchase aids to help you out. The graphics are part of why these games are fun. Now that I have penguins and snails, I doubt that I would buy a third game so similar, but I'm enjoying the challenge of these two games. Many of the "quest" objects are virtually impossible to see. Some of them are 99% hidden behind other objects. I don't believe they should be made to be that difficult to find, so I find what I can and don't go blind trying to find the few that are impossibly hidden. Show less

Well - if Penguin Rescue has driven you nuts then this is for those gluttons for punishment.
Lovely graphics and similar tasks just with snails but I'm with Beckins on this one. I have Penguins to help before I get these folks on their holiday.

The gameplay and features are the same as offered in Penguin Rescue. This game is about Bridget and Matthew, two snails who have missed their boat to the southern side of the garden, and decide to take their vacation on the road. It does start out super simple, but I'm assuming, that like it's predecessor, it will become increasingly more difficult as you progress.

Stick with the game, however, because of one particular feature that's bound to make the upcoming levels more challenging. Every time you make a match, sections of the board do a shuffle as they move into different positions, usually ruining what could have been an epic setup! On the negative end, you cannot make a move quickly or back to back until all tiles have repositioned or explosions finish doing their thing.

Most of the level goals require you to make matches over the sand tiles within a specific number of moves, but some levels require you to make matches of specific Snails in various amounts. Large matches or T & L shaped matches will give you power-ups on the board which are color specific such as Super Shells, Directional Bombs or Color Coded bombs. There are lot's of fun Bonuses to earn as you progress, that are just so different, the devs have really thought this one through.

After a few levels you can search for a Hidden Object as shown as a quest, somewhere on the Level Map, at first the objects are obvious, but become increasingly more difficult to locate. If you don't mind a "Limited Moves" type Match 3 game, this is one that can be enjoyed by the entire family. Stick with the entire demo before making a decision because it does become more challenging once Obstacles are introduced and fewer large matches are obtainable, enjoy! Show less

Pros:

- Sound and music tracks actual great (has 5.1 sound on my surround which sound quite good)
- 150 levels (Since I have only completed about 16 levels in an hour this game could potentially have hours of play time. Can't verify for sure but only off what I've completed..)
- Great combos and power up options unlock as you progress.

Cons:

- No casual mode only moves limited mode. I enjoyed some of the game mechanics this game has to offer but on the fence by not appealing to casual players.
- Levels are small and generally short without much depth during the trial.
- Game seems to be geared towards kids more but to me the theme didn't matter as much. I am more neutral on this. To some however this may be a con for some.

I am on the fence on whether to buy because the overall gameplay is fun other than the level design being moves limited. I was going to rate the game 3 stars but to a degree I'm between it being a 3 1/2 so I gave it a 4. Hope this review helps others on the fence like me. Show less

Basically, Penguin Rescue but with snails. I am up to my eyeballs in Penguin Rescue so I don't need the same game twice at this time. Maybe I will look at this one again in the future, but for now I have penguins to help!

As has been mentioned elsewhere, yes, this is a clone of Penguin Rescue. If you play long enough, you'll even find many of the levels near the end are a straight up copy [albeit with different graphics] too! With that said, if you enjoyed Penguin Rescue, this is still worth a look. Be warned that even though the difficulty curve here is a little less steep, it does get to the insane levels that PR has eventually. One of the differences is that a chain reaction of powerups can keep on going after the level has been completed, which helps you on winning extra stars. Otherwise, you'll still need to strategize and hang on to your gold stash, as you still can't buy your way out of levels with powerups all the time.

The storyline is better, and you can read it all now, instead of having it hidden in the "clouds" in several instances. The map scene is darker overall which makes finding the hidden objects a little more tricky, but even with my poor HOG skills I was able to locate most of them without help. I thought the graphics in the M3 boards were a little less polished than in Penguin Rescue though, and the tiles to clear are harder to see.

There is still no player profile creation option, so the only way to completely restart the game is to delete the saved game folder; however, Pretty Snails doesn't have the glitch which occurs in Penguin Rescue once the game is completed. I enjoyed working through the 150 levels, but prefer the penguins. Show less
