We get to roam around puddle strewn cobbles, with wisps of fog trailing our footsteps, townsquares with towering architecture of magnificence in Europe, train stations covered in shiny granite flooring, industrial-age architechture and endless spaciousness. A jaunt into the underground sewers had me feeling like cave explorer because of the quality of the sound and graphics and clever use of light.
Wonderfully enjoyable. - Great graphics and a great story. This is the first 2016 game in a long time that I've enjoyed playing and wanted to write a review on. No scooby-doo type action or antics or comic-book scenarios.
# Not scary or disturbing either. #
I like to play a huge mix of games and I like the fact that they're all a bit different.
STORY - has a consistent flow and an edge of creating interest, that keeps me wanting to play more and find out more.
GRAPHICS - and the artwork is so much nicer than many games.Full screen or widescreen. Color, depth, perspective, and good use of lighting and shadows creates enjoyable to be in scenes.
HOPS - 18-20 - LOVELY to look at and the items used are often REAL looking. ITEMS ARE CLEARLY VISIBLE. These kinds of HOPS almost have a hypnotic effect on me
PUZZLES: are not that easy in places. All skippable. SOUNDS - with 4 adjustments. Pleasant, appropriate and atmospheric. Music is suitable and totally separate.
MAP: TRAVEL
JOURNAL: NONE
DIFFICULTY SETTINGS - 4 interchangeable
HINT: Guides and leads you, and there's a walkthrough available from BFG
INVENTORY - lockable
CHARACTERS: Minimal interaction
I almost didn't play this game because of the reviews and because the last game of this series wasn't my cup of tea. However, this game IS absolutely worth playing, and definitely whisked me away. It was the selection of cutscenes shown that made me give it a go. I liked the fact that to remove blurs in the time-field, you use a special crystal instead of any clock.
Incidently, you can skip the song at the beginning by hitting the "skip" in in upper right corner ;) Show less
I recommend this game!

That said, opening the game with a scene that is a song is a bad, bad idea. I am very tolerant myself of developers who are marketing games not in their first language and have often defended them in the forums, but that is in spelling and in speech. Bad rhymes and mispronounced words in a song, moreover a song you can't really skip, at least the first time, without missing the backstory - that I'm not tolerant of.
I will buy the game and am confident I will enjoy it because they are a fine developer and I have enjoyed what they have done previously - but I hope they never do a singing telegram opening (or anywhere in a game) again, and I really hope no other developer picks up on it. Show less

Haunted Train Clashing Worlds is the third game in this wonderful series. I own the other two and it is one of those games where the developer takes its time before the next chapter is delivered. It has been well over a year since the previous game Frozen in Time was released in May of 2015. Prepare yourself for another awesome ride on the Haunted Train with Charon, Daniel, and Olivia. Daniel’s wife Olivia had been restored to life by Charon in a previous game and in return Daniel agreed to travel with Charon as he seeks to recapture the condemned evil souls who had somehow managed to escape from Charon’s prison.
As the game begins, Charon is having a nightmare and knows that Olivia is in danger. A rift between time and space has occurred in Amsterdam and Charon sees Olivia and the Amsterdam Museum in flames. Charon has seen this rift before – one that is caused by inhabitants of Shadowland a world that is dying. Professor Alazar of Omega University in Shadowland has devised a plan where he will open a rift that will allow the beings in Shadowland to cross and inhabit the lives of people living on Earth – this time the rift is in 1915 Amsterdam. You, playing the game as Daniel will help Charon save Olivia but when Charon is captured it looks like you are on your own.
When the game first started I wasn’t too sure about the cartoonish graphics but the dream segment graphics soon changed into the excellent graphics that we have in the other Haunted Train games.
Tools include a protective Amulet of Eternal Tranquility that you receive from Charon early in the game. The amulet can help you heal the rifts that you encounter and put a stop to their destructive power. You also have an interactive map that is present at the beginning of the game.
Clashing Worlds contains some very innovative HOP scenes and I enjoyed “puzzling” my way through them. It took me a bit of time to understand how the different types of scenes work and what it was I needed to do to allow me to proceed. What great fun! Then there are the mini-games or puzzles that are different and very good. Some are challenging and others not so much. As a whole there seem to be more HOPS than there are mini-games but since the HOPS are so well-designed it is okay with me.

The CE version of the game includes collectible Omega signs to find, morphing objects called Pearls, can be found in the HOPS, there are achievements, a Strategy Guide, a bonus chapter, Concept Art, Wallpapers, and Music. There is really not much to rave about with the extras but at least the in-game Strategy Guide is helpful if needed.
I love this game and am enjoying it even more than I did the previous game in the series, Frozen in Time. Some might feel that the game is HOP heavy but I love the genre – always have, and probably always will. I found the demo time flew by and before I knew it I was hitting the buy button. Please try the demo to see if Clashing Worlds is one you will enjoy as well. Show less

#1, though the interactive HOPS were somewhat clever, there were far too many of them, and some of the same scenes were often used. The artwork in the HOP scenes were pretty junk pile scenes at best. Some of the objects were too hard sometimes, and I was becoming bored with them, to be honest. I did like finding the silhouette items from time to time. I wish there could have been a Match 3 game or some other option, but I guess only CEs offer those from time to time.
Another thing that I get nervous about is how long some of the items remained in the inventory. But it does prolong the game and I guess it kept me on my toes. When there are a few items in your inventory, which doesn't exceed a certain amount, your left and right arrows are gone. The map was good and the hint button, if needed, was okay. As creative as the tasks were I felt parts of the game seemed more 20th century than 21st.
I found the storyline to be very creative--though it's the same old Good vs. Evil factor, it kept me engrossed. The voiceovers were excellent. Once you release some of the characters of their evil spirits, the scene that followed seemed a bit too animated or abnormal to me; as if the editing was done too quickly. Case in point: I released the evil spirit from the conductor and he should have gradually come out of his stupor, but instead he had the appearance of someone with a fake smile, greeting his guests at the door. Way too animated!
My favorite part of the game are the puzzles. Very clever and many of the mini-games were not carbon copies of others. I like that.
The graphics were good but not the greatest. I did like the cut scenes. I like the RIFT and/or PORTALS idea, but getting the spirits into them was a very cool idea, that is, with the help of the amulet. Well done, devs!
For an SE game, it played out like a CE without the morphing objects and collectibles and everything else a CE may offer.
Same reviewers may not like the song at the intro, but I loved it! The lyrics were available (without the bouncing ball. That takes me back a few years!) If you want to know anything about the game's storyline, well, it's right there in the lyrics, folks. Devs, great idea, and I for one, enjoyed the singing. I would like to see more of it in games to come!
I purchased this game at a great discount, thanks to Big Fish. And without a doubt, I recommend this game. Again, for an SE, it's rather good. Try it out and see for yourselves! Show less

The intro to the game has its own song specific for the story/game, just like in the movies. Don't get excited, it's not a song you'll be humming spontaneously, but it's an extra not commonly seen in most HO games.

I can't even remember what the story is about, but what is memorable about the game is all the puzzles present at every step of the game. The easy puzzles don't trouble me, but there are quite a few that are real brain teasers. There are junk pile HOPs, many of them require interactions to complete and are puzzles in themselves.
The graphics are excellent, and the game is long, both in story content and in number of puzzles to complete.
This isn't a game for relaxation, but will give your brain a good work out or if you LOVE puzzles. Show less

When the Collector's Edition of Clashing Worlds was released, it received a measly 3.3 rating, with just slightly over 50% of the reviewers recommending this game. I only gave this game a 3 star rating, and my review was still on the first page because only 7 people loved it and 0 people gave it a 4 star rating. I'm certainly not faulting those reviewers, because everyone has different tastes and enjoy different storylines, and we shouldn't punish other reviewers with no votes just because of a difference of opinion. I'm only making this point because in my opinion, something went wrong with this version of Haunted Train. The first Haunted Train was so fresh and unique, a train of souls so to speak, a train that carries criminals who have committed heinous crimes against society. It was a fantastic game, and the second game was just as inspiring. But for some reason, this game seems sloppy, and boring, it's the same story with the same features that have driven so many games into a rut, a rut that some series are unable to bounce out of. I purchased this game in the CE because I own the other two and I was hoping it was just a glitch in the demo or that I was having a bad day when I played it. Sadly, nothing really changes, the game stays stagnant, just like the souls on the train, neither alive nor dead, just a mediocre game. In case you're still interested in this game as a purchase, here's my review.....
The Haunted Train has come to a screeching halt in Amsterdam where several dimensional Rifts have opened throughout the city, claiming the lives of innocent people. (it is Amsterdam, gotta wonder, if you catch my "rift") Charon's visions of impending doom have led him to believe that Olivia has been trapped inside the museum during an investigation. Daniel wastes no time getting to work, closing the rifts, using Charon's Amulet of Eternal Tranquility, to clear a path to the museum to save his beloved, before the rifts consume everything, and everyone!
I for one, am tired of this storyline. It seems that once a new storyline is presented, for example, Alice in Shadowland, everyone hops on the band wagon and presents the same "shadowland" plot. Haunted Train is another shadowland themed game, another world domination and destruction game, another game with cloaked bad guys wearing masks with beaks that were worn by doctors during the plague. The graphics are weak, the scenery bland and unappealing, and everything looks the same as the last Haunted Train game. Where's the new here folks? Where's the storyline that has me on the edge of my seat, can't stop playing because I want to learn more about it? Apparently it was sucked into the first rift Daniel closed, this game just doesn't have any mojo, that's why the train stopped!
There are decent features in the Collector's Edition, not "wow" features, but enough substance to convince me to give the game 3 stars instead of 2. For starters, there are 7 Chapters, the demo is a mere 20% of the entire game, so it is a fairly long game. Each scene in the CE, has a collectible Hidden Omega Sign, apparently because the name of the planet that is involved in the supernatural rift is Omega. Some, but not many are blended into the scenery nicely. The CE version also has hidden Morphing Pearls in each of the 29 Hidden Object Scenes, that were a nice touch, but I've stated many times that I prefer a good Morphing Object within the main game itself. There are also the usual Achievements to earn, but there doesn't seem to be any unusual awards outside of the normal, make no mistake, use no hint, awards.
The Hidden Object Scenes are typical, with no pizazz, just been there, done that puzzles to solve. Many of the Hidden Object Scenes are duplicated, offering a slightly different style of HOP in the same boring area. There are Interactive List finds, but most are the standard Progressive, Interactive, Silhouetted Shape finds where you find an item that matches the Silhouetted Shape shown, and then use that item back into the scene Interactively. There are also several Keyword Finds in a story, however they are presented as a Mini Game not a HOP. Again, in the CE version, each of the scenes have a Morphing Pearl to discover, and the pearls are very well hidden in my opinion, as from what I can remember, the cursor doesn't change to say "here I am" either.
The Mini Games are decent, not too difficult, but mostly variations of Puzzles with tiles. Below are brief descriptions of some of the games you'll encounter during the demo:
1) Complete the image by finding and moving 7 pieces to their correct position on a split scene bas-relief, then...
2) Complete the image by rotating the circular tiles, then resizing the tokens using plus and minus arrows, then...
3) Complete the image by moving the misplaced items to their correct positions. (As you finish each of these three puzzles, you get to learn more of the game's story)
4) Arrange the decorations so that they are on the correct hats by swapping 3 different sections.
5) Create the image by dragging the picture tiles horizontally and vertically.
6) Stop the machine by turning off all the glowing segments. some segments are numbered and can only be toggled with that specific number.
7) Find items that match Keywords during a pictured story.
8) Repeat the sequence shown by pressing on stained glass sections in the correct order.
9) Drag energy from the crystal balls to light all the gems, some gems can pass through rays, but rays can't cross crystals or each other.
The Collector's Edition has 29 Hidden Object Puzzles with a Morphing Pearl in each scene, 20 Super Puzzles, Character Bios as you progress, 8 Wallpapers, 8 Concept Art pictures, 6 Music Soundtracks, 15 Achievements to earn, 44 Hidden Collectible Omega Signs (here's your sign...again) a built in Strategy Guide and a Bonus Chapter. I'm on the fence with recommending this game, for me it was no different than hundreds of other games. It's not really a bad game, just nothing special offered. Show less
