For the first time in a long while I can say I loved this game! The hidden object scenes were very different and a lot of fun. The mini game really made me think but were solvable.
I didn't have to put up with half of the game being dialogue! Big plus! Lately the games seem more a video than game.

Megan Williams lost both of her parents in a fire, but despite her trauma, she was a kind young girl who just wanted to "fit in" at the Wilford School for girls. Unfortunately, Megan was never accepted by the other girls, and she too, lost her life in a horrible accident in 1966. Wilford has been relatively peaceful since then, but something, or someone, has triggered her return, and she's no longer a good girl, she's a Spirit of Revenge, and she wants class dismissed, permanently!
In my opinion, The Cursed Castle was the only Spirit of Revenge that was top notch, and the only one with fantastic graphics. The last game in this series, Florry's Well was just a hot mess, this game is way better, but I just don't get what's up with the cartoonish graphics. One minute they are realistic, the next, sloppy, especially when it comes to the Hidden Object Scenes. One of the reason's I liked this game better than the last, is that there are a ton of Mini Games, most of which are super easy. I actually don't mind easy puzzles, as long as they are fun, who cares whether you solved it in 20 seconds flat, if it's fun, that's what matters. I'm a Grandmother, and I'm not afraid to admit that I love to color right alongside the Grandkids, we build sandcastles with indoor colored sand, and we build crazy things with lego's, it's easy breezy stuff, they love, I love it, it's fun!
In this Collector's Edition version, there are 41 Morphing Objects that give you a Hint for each one you find. I'm not sure what happens if you run out of hints, or don't collect any morphs, but there's always the built in Strategy Guide to help you. There is a good jump map available, that shows where an available task is located, as well as alerting you of an available morph, so you probably won't need to use a hint anyway. There are also 9 Collectible Character figurines, but in the demo alone, I believe you find at least 3 or 4 out of the nine.
The Hidden Objects are almost as plentiful as the puzzles. There are Interactive List finds, Multiples of a single item or type, and most Progressive, Interactive Silhouetted Shape finds. This is where you find an item that matches the silhouetted shape shown in the inventory bar, and use that item back in the scene interactively to expose the next item. There is usually a puzzle, sometimes two, to solve, which I list in the next section.
The Mini Games are in abundance. Below are brief descriptions of some of the games you'll encounter during the demo:
1) Select and swap elements between several certificates.
2) Rotate carved wooden discs to complete the image.
3) Arrange the medals in order from 1 to 5 by swapping medals that share the same circular tracks.
4) Arrange items correctly according to the images on the pockets and the images across the top.
5) Swap key sections so the top half matches the bottom half.
6) Put misplaced items where they belong in a storybook as a story unfolds.
7) Rotate dials to create a continuous line from left to right.
8) Swap pie sections to their color coded slots.
9) Select buttons in the correct order according to the clue shown.
10) Place wooden bird shapes correctly.
11) Swap circular puzzle sections along tracks and then rotate to complete the picture.
12) Use the clue to select the correct stone sections by clicking until the desired image appears.
13) Set the correct combination using the code shown, by selecting circular ring sections to rotate.
This Collector's Edition has 9 Achievements to earn, 14 VG Team pictures, 9 Collectible Character Figures, 11 Music Soundtracks, 6 Wallpapers, 12 Concept Art pictures, 41 Morphing Objects to use as extra hints, replayable Videos, a built in Strategy Guide and a Bonus Chapter, enjoy! Show less

Hi all! As always, I review mostly on the game play and leave the story to others to review. We have #5 in this series. For some reason, I only have 3. This game has fairly nice graphics, but could be a bit clearer, not a deal breaker by any means. Game play was excellent. Place was perfect and the game flowed very well. Colors are quite nice and bright, very true. Voices are age and character appropriate, with emotion for a change. Animation is excellent. Facial features fit whatever is happening at the time, movement are very smooth. Music is soothing until something is either happening or about to happen, then it cuts loose.
HOPs are varied interactive lists and interactive silhouettes. The scenes are fairly clear and items are not difficult to find. Set up is done quite nicely. Puzzles are simple and don't take any brain power to complete, but done well. I actually didn't skip any. We don't really have that many HOPs or puzzles in this one, but enough to keep you from getting bored with the story and play. Each game in this series has a little different story line and they have all been interesting. I'll have to figure out why I didn't get the one in this series. Yes, we have spirits, but they really aren't scary. Hint system is quite helpful and we do have a transport feature for longer locations. The jump map is also helpful, but I didn't really find the need to use it for this game. As I said, the game flowed quite well and is very easy to follow.
Collectibles are not many, but enough. We have character figurines, which are not in every scene, so watch for them. They can be anywhere. We also have 41 morphing items, so far one in each scene. They morph quit slowly, so it is easy to miss one if you are in a hurry to move on. The SG, of course, tells you where they are.
I found this game surprisingly fun and interesting. I really got into the story when the demo ended. I beta tested this a while back and I see that they did make some very nice changes to the play. No, not much challenge, but occasionally it's just nice to have a fun and relaxing game to play. This is one of them. I think all levels of players will find this one fun for one reason or another. Yes, I am adding this one to my collection of CE games.
As always, try if out for yourself and see what you think. We all have different tastes in games and you may not care for this one at all. Thanks for the reviews. Show less

Our parapsychologist friend Brenda Gale is back in game five of the Spirits of Revenge series to put to rest yet another vengeful spirit. This time her travels take her to the Wilford School where she must soothe the ruffled feathers of a misunderstood ghost who before her demise was a student at the school. Ashley Stone the school’s principal called you after two of her students were injured. As you piece together the events, you realize that it was no ordinary accident that caused the serious injury to Ellie who is being rushed to the hospital when you arrive on the scene.
Although the graphics are crisp and clear they are not consistent so I am not sure what is going on here. I think that parts of the game were parceled out to different artist that, IMHO, makes a game style seem fractured somehow. In the custom mode the hints and skips can be set in a range of 15 – 255 seconds. Your tools include an integrated transporter map.
The HOPS are part of what make this game so much fun for me. Yes, I did buy the game because I have enjoyed most of the others in the series. I wasn’t as fond of Florry’s Well but all in all it wasn’t a horrible game. The HOPS include the variety that is somehow written into the must have manual that BFG gives its game developers. All in all there is nothing new here but there is still a lot of enjoyment.
The puzzles although easy include some of my favorites. I know, there is a big “bang on the drum” move from some who just want really challenging puzzles BUT I play a game for enjoyment and not to be frustrated by spinning wheels a hundred different directions in order to solve a puzzle. Puzzles simply add to the mix that makes HOPA games; so whether puzzles are difficult or easy, I still enjoy them and love that they are part of the experience. Others have provided the detail of what you can expect with the HOPs and puzzles so I won’t bother to give you that information and, even though many of you appreciate that detail that has been provided, quite frankly, I would rather discover all these things for myself.
The CE is what I consider CE light even though it does have collectibles and morphing objects, most of which are “in your face” and you would need to be blind to miss them. The other extras in the game follow the guidelines so there is nothing new here and definitely less than you will find in some CE games.
Okay, so why did I buy the game? For one thing I like the storyline and the HOPS. I find the mini-games or puzzles to be fun AND I like the way the game flows. For me, this is a fresh and relaxing game even though it is nothing new. Even though the strategy guide indicates this might be a short game, I tend to play slowly and savor each screen and step in the game; and since I have enjoyed most of the other games in the series, I am hopeful that this might be a longer game that expected. I like the game and only stopped to write my review and now I am going back to enjoy the rest of the story. As always, please try the demo to see if you will enjoy the game as well. Show less

It seems like all of the 'Spirits of Revenge' games are basically the same. You have a spirit seeking revenge for something murderous done to them, so there is really nothing new, per se about this game, that hasn't been done before in the previous versions. Here are my PROS & CONS:
PROS
1. HOP/MINI-PUZZLES: These were perhaps THE best features of the game. The HOP's were a mixed bag of fun. They were creative, from your basic seek-n-find item to placing objects back in their proper place within a book, to finding an item based only on the silhouette given. The few puzzles I encountered were on the easy side, but I myself like games on the easy side. Others may disagree.
2.SPIRITS: There was an abundance of ghostly mishaps, hauntings, and appearances in this game that made the title an appropriate fit. This could, however, be considered as a CON as well. I'll let you decide.
3. GRAPHICS: The graphics weren't all that bad. Some of the cutscenes were clear and the colors crisp, especially whenever they showed one of the girls.
4. LIP SYNCHING: It wasn't as bad as some of the games I've seen. The voices were appropriate and easy to understand.
CONS
1. STORYLINE: An old rehash of a story that has been done to death, (pun intended) IMO.
2. SPIRITS: Like I mentioned above, this game seemed to continually display the spirits of the dead girls. It would make the game a lot more interesting if every now and again a spirit would appear and do its thing. But when you have them appear more frequently than necessary, one can tire very easily from seeing them and stop playing the game.
3. DIFFICULTY LEVEL: As mentioned from one other reviewer, this game seemed more geared towards the beginner player, as it was on the easy side.
All in all, this is your typical: BEEN THERE, DONE THAT game. For the experienced player, this game doesn't hold much of a challenge. But if you want an easy, peasy game then this game is perfect for you.
As always, try the demo first. ENJOY :) Show less

Enjoyed even though the game was short. I got the idea there is a sequel.
I forgive the programmers because in the Garden Scene after searching until I turned green I never spotted a morphing object, I found all other morphing object in the other scene locations so I will just pat myself on the back for that accomplishment,
Thanks!

Hunt up a key for everything, receive instructions in ripped bits of paper, mend paintings... The conventions of hidden object adventure games are met but you don't have to save the world from nameless evil in an atmosphere of doom and gloom. It's a bright shiny day when the detective arrived at a private school for girls-- just as a comatose young lady is being loaded into an ambulance. Characters include a monosyllabic maid, well-bred and coifed headmistress, neurotic teens, and a very angry ghost.
The minigames in the demo include a find the misplaced decoration and put it in the right spot, whirling disks, and rotating bits of stone. The HOG's are not hard, but involve several steps, If you forget one detail, woe betide you.
It's easy to inhabit the girl's school. The mix of familiar surroundings and small daily mishaps are a nice change from relentless gloom, and offset the disasters nicely. There is concern, not a sense of impending doom. This is a nice touch. This game just wants us to straighten out messes, help weeping girls, and catch bullies. Show less

Most ghost stories usually start and end the same way, given the fact that the spirits eventually get banished and the people they haunt get back to their lives. However, it’s the journey that matters, and you can get a different experience out of the same concept if the writers do their jobs. Hence, there are thousands of ghost stories out there, and many of them have what it takes to keep you engaged. This edition just didn't deliver for me. A haunted school full of troubled students was somewhat juvenile to me. Spirit of Revenge: A Test of Fire is an adventure game with hidden object mechanics and a few puzzles to enrich the experience. It doesn’t differ too much from the rest of the HOPAs out there, but then again this allows you to get right down to business and not worry about getting to terms with new gameplay mechanics. On the other hand, sometimes it’s nice to have some originality thrown into the mix. The story revolves around a girl-only school that appears to be haunted by some kind of malevolent spirit. The students there are quite traumatized by the events, and they all require your help to get back to normal and get rid of the ghosts. Thankfully, you have all the right tools to achieve that, so it’s only a matter of catching the spirits and sending them back to their world.
Although most of your time is spent trying to spot the useful items hidden in the scenery, there are also puzzles that need to be solved in order to unlock the way forward. Some of these puzzles are actually mini-games like match-3 and jigsaw, but other require a bit of tinkering before you find the solution. In any case, none of them are particularly tough, especially if you are a long-time fan of the genre. Lastly, the graphics are about as simple as you would expect from a HOPA, which means that the artwork is the strongest element. There are no three-dimensional environments to explore and not many animations, but at least the cutscenes are pretty decent, at least if you lower your expectations a little bit. Furthermore, the dialog is fully voice-acted, so that helps with the atmosphere. All in all, Spirit of Revenge: A Test of Fire is somewhat suspenseful, especially if you like puzzles and a mystery. However, it lacks any kind of originality in the gameplay department, so you have to make peace with that from the start. I have played all the games in this series, I hope the next installment is comparable to previous editions.
I recommend this game!
