Remember when Dark Dimensions games were unique? When each installment of the series was different than the last? When the storylines were actually groundbreaking? Well, those days maybe long gone. Dark Dimensions: Vengeful Beauty tells a story that has already been told far too many times, about a friend who went missing in a National Park, where deadly purple vines happen to grow. As you might have guessed, the plot in Dark Dimensions: Vengeful Beauty could not have been more predictable. Still, there is one thing that we must applaud the developers for, which is how they managed to utilize the hidden object scenes and the puzzles to advance the storyline. This makes the rather dull storyline a tad more engaging, because the player is actually involved in the process of unraveling the storyline. If you don’t look too closely, Dark Dimensions: Vengeful Beauty is one finely-developed HOPA game. Despite the faultless game mechanics and engineering, there is an obvious lack of logic. Some inventory items seem to be useful only when they are convenient for the developers, even when they can definitely be used to solve some other tasks. At the same time, the hidden object scenes and the puzzles are decent, but nothing mind-blowing. What really is mind-blowing is the production; Daily Magic really delivers high production values with Dark Dimensions: Vengeful Beauty. The visuals are absolutely stunning; the hand-drawn artwork and the lush colors complement each other excellently. The epic musical scores also deserve a shout-out. Overall I enjoyed this edition of Dark Dimension even though other versions in the series were much more enjoyable. I remain a fan so here are all the editions listed. Play them all, it really is a great series. Cheers!

I played this as a beta tester and enjoyed it. It was different and I liked the gameplay. I don't remember being knocked off my socks by it, but, I do remember I liked it a lot. I do remember saying yes to the question would I consider buying it and I don't always say that. It wasn't very hard, but, wasn't so easy it was boring, for me anyway. Happy Gaming!

The visual and sound quality is amazing in this game. I liked the story, even with the cliche "we want you to help find our friend, now let's stumble into a mystery/rescue her" situation. I thought it was a little too evident about certain... things... But I don't think it takes away from the game too much, if at all. The puzzles weren't too difficult, though I did have some issues with a couple hidden object scenes. Though that was quickly resolved, so I don't think it ruined anything.
The (SE) game ends with you saving them and arresting the bad guy, so it's a good ending.
(I'm just curious where the Head/Chief Ranger went after that last time we saw him... did he get captured? Did he escape somehow?) Show less

Dark Dimensions have returned in the form of deadly vines, that are taking over the Oldforester National Park. Your colleagues and personal friends, Linda and Carter Cole have asked for help, investigating this strange phenomenon. The investigation turns deadly, in the blink of an eye, when the entire group becomes entangled by the vines, seemingly capable of conscious thought, and certainly capable of revenge. Where did these vines come from, and why are they seeking revenge? (why are they so purple is the real question)
In my opinion, Dark Dimensions have only had two epic games in the series, City of Fog and Wax Beauty. Vengeful Beauty is certainly better than the last game offered, Blade Master, but the storyline isn't great, and the graphics are too purple to take seriously. Dark Dimensions should be about Dark entities, not purple entities, and certainly not about killer purple vines. If I were to create a Dark Dimension game, I wouldn't reveal the "monster" during the demo at all. Wouldn't this game be creepier if people were disappearing right and left, but you never saw it coming, you never knew what entity was taking your friends?
The Hidden Object Scenes are plentiful in this demo, which is a brave move, because there are a ton of people who love HOPA games for the mini games and the adventure, but are no longer impressed with the HO's. The reason for this is simple, the Hidden Object Scenes aren't what they used to be. They used to be filled with objects that were challenging to find because the objects were blended into the scenery in disguise, nowadays, they are just junk piles of objects piled on top of one another, not hidden in the least bit. Most of these HOP's are Interactive list finds that open up after 5 objects of 2 different kinds are found. There are also Keywords in sentence finds and Interactive Silhouetted Shape finds available, as well as an alternate Match 3 game, available in the CE version.
.
The Mini Games are decent and offer a fair amount of challenge with most. Below are brief descriptions of some of the games you'll encounter during the demo:
1) Click on skulls to light all of them, in a three part game. Clicking on one skull may affect others.
2) Recreate the sound wave pattern shown on the clue by adjusting 4 different buttons.
3) drag a bullet through a path without touching the edges.
4) Connect all portraits by clicking on all portraits with a single line.
5) Remove vines in a specific order.
6) Arrange the stones so they match the the runes shown on the slots underneath them.
7) Drag each item in the center to one of the stones to complete the images.
AVAILABLE DARK DIMENSION GAMES:
City of Fog (CE 11/11)
Wax Beauty (CE 4/12)
City of Ash (CE 6/13)
Somber Song (CE 3/14)

I really disliked the story in Vengeful Beauty. I hope this series doesn't continue the way of vines and fantasy monsters attacking. I prefer fantasy creatures to stay in fantasy games and paranormal games like the DD series to stick to its own genre.

I own all the DD in this series up until now, and most of the titles I have as CE. Of the games I've completed so far, Wax Beauty and City of Ash are my favorites in this series.
Another reviewer mentioned how much better the cut scenes and stories were in days long past, and I have to agree.
DD Vengeful Beauty has very similar vines to DD The Homecoming; the story was better there though. I'm a huge animal lover & I loved the husky in the Homecoming, so I overlooked my hatred of vines. In this demo though, a crow and a raccoon are both attacked by the vines and I found myself grumbling.
I've seen a lot a stories in these games lately that are just so out there. Over and over we see tentacles, vines, fantasy creatures in games out of the fantasy genre. So since I've been playing (and buying) these games for years.... Here are my favorite stories I've seen so far at BFG over the years. I hope it helps if the developer is stuck maybe, with a story.
1. The Reincarnation series. You play different levels as little mini stories (per chapter) where you are reincarnated to different lives to save a person. The first game you play as a dog in love.
2. Mysteries of the mind: Coma. Same idea but you save people while in an altered state of awareness each chapter.
3. Paranormal Pursuit: The gifted one- A little boy has telekinetic powers.
4. Redemption Cemetery #1 Curse of the Raven- You go back to an event each chapter is a new person to save, where someone ends up a plot in a cemetery and your job is to change the circumstances so they will all live instead.
Most of those games I just listed are older than 2014, so if only they were revamped or had similar storylines.... Those are games I'd love to see have a fresh spin on with the task maps, etc.
I actually REALLY liked how the DEV chose to play this game outside, for the most part, and in beautiful national park like areas. The waterfalls were so pretty and I gave this title a higher rating because of the locations.
All in all... I'm glad I own The Dark Dimension series. I don't like leaving bad reviews and usually only review completed games I loved. I'll usually only review a demo if I dislike the path the series is headed.
Its sad to see a strong series like this get caught in there own snarled purple vines. Show less

To borrow from a reviewer of the CE, the story involves the following tired, old plot: Someone is missing and is presumed to be in danger. A rescue party goes in, and now they, too, are in danger. There's a malevolent, non-human villain from, yes, a Dark Dimension, and ta-da! You get to be the resourceful hero who successfully outwits said supernatural villain at every turn. And oh, yeah. There's an ancient civilization involved, too.
Yawn.
Same familiar puzzles, too, like shooting at something with a makeshift slingshot, routing fluid through disconnected pipes, and locating and placing jigsaw-type puzzle pieces.
My favorite bit of improbable foolishness was the unloaded gun hidden in the ranger station, but it's okay because you have a single bullet you fished out of a hole with the old magnet on a string trick.
And oh, by the way... you accomplish all these heroics with a broken leg that you bandaged and splinted yourself.
But he best part of this game? The custom setting allows hint and skip refills that take only one second. Yay!!
So it wasn't all bad. Show less

There is no logic in what you have to do other than find a bunch of stuff to get other stuff. Constant back and forth without advancing the story which I hate. The story line doesn't come together at all. An evil vine is taking over this island and it affects everyone but you (of course) and you must 'save the world' or at least your missing companions.
Some of the HO's are a waste of time. The worst has 5 categories and you have to complete all 5 to continue and it adds nothing to the game. The others are just there I guess to take up time.
The graphics are some of the worst I've seen in a long time. Well, not that long but they are bad and the characters have about as much personality as an eraser which should be used on this game.
I cannot recommend this game at all unless you like games with no point or clear objective.
But, play the demo and decide for yourself. Show less
