When you realize that his postcards stopped coming, you discovered that your husband has disappeared during his expedition to Siberia. He was searching for a mythical cave that hides a legendary force. You must follow in his footsteps and catch up to him, before he meets a tragic fate in the Russian wilderness! During this journey you travel through scenic locations and uncover ancient legends in this mysterious hidden-object puzzle adventure game! Your husband, Dave, promised you regular updates via postcards before he went on an expedition in Siberia. One day, Dave’s postcards stopped coming and you soon discovered that he was presumed to be dead. Four months later, Dave reached out to you in spirits form and asked you for help. You need to travel to Russia in search for Dave and put an end to the wrath of these ancient spirits! The Reflections of Life series used to be one of my personal favorites, mainly because of the unique storylines. It is a somewhat disappointing to see that this new installment of Reflections of Life delivers yet another unoriginal storyline, involving some more ancient Gods and local myths. While the storytelling is well-integrated into the mini-games, Reflections of Life: Hearts Taken may fail to engage its players. I was bored during the demo of the game mostly because I have seen and heard of this kind of storyline thousands of times before; yet I continued playing until I completed the adventure. After the demo play I was presently surprised how the adventure began to reveal a really interesting story line. Although the production value in Reflections of Life: Hearts Taken is still high, it is a bit of a downgrade from the wonderful sights and sounds in the previous installments. Each scene is still filled with intricate details and vibrant colors, but somehow the overall aesthetic of the graphics is somewhat cartoonish. I thought the soundtracks in Hearts Taken were beautifully-composed, but substandard to those enchanting tunes in the predecessors. In my subjective opinion, the gameplay is the game’s saving grace. For a game with such a cliché plot, the gameplay is surprisingly complex. Many objectives in the adventure portion of the game require several steps to complete; the challenge level is high and the entertainment value is definitely plenty. The hidden object scenes are definitely imaginative. Most of the puzzles are creative and fun – and the variety is something I certainly appreciated. This addition took me four-hours of standard gameplay to complete. I enjoyed those four-hours a lot and remain a true fan of this unique series, even if this isn't the best edition. If you are new to this series here are all of the titles. Recommended to casual games of all levels for the entire series. Cheers!

If you haven't played the entire game (SE or CE), please don't post a review. It isn't helpful because demos can be very misleading. In this case the game got much better as I got further into it. The graphics are stunning and made me feel as if I were in the actual landscape of the story. That's why I play these games, to escape from the everyday hum-drum of life. They take me away!

Very good game and I'll be purchasing the other Reflections games. Can't believe I only have two of them. This would have gotten 5 stars if it had been more challenging. Show less

I really enjoy this series. The storyline was a little lacking in this one. Scorned woman has been done so many times! Of course you start off with a sled crash. True, it does have the now familiar back and forth that is common in HO's now but these movements have a purpose. Every HO you complete or every mini game you finish or every door you open helps you continue on your quest and doesn't waste your time with unnecessary jumps here and there. The only reason I didn't rate it higher was because of the back and forth and what I thought was a weak story.
I loved the graphics in this one and it gave me the sense of an earlier time in Russian history.
The characters are a little on the amateurish side but not to the point of being ridiculous. But their clothing is exquisite and helps develop the older feeling.
I recommend this game for the serious HO gamer but I will probably play the CE edition demo before I commit to purchasing just to make sure.

I was just saying on my review for Redemption Cemetery: Embodiment of Evil (standard edition) that the demos don't always reflect the game in its entirety. This game is a perfect example of that, because I really hated the demo. The first 10 or 15 minutes of the demo starts out with good potential, but then it just goes stale once you make it out of the cave. I wasn't even considering this game for purchasing, but I needed a final game for the BOGO sale and thought why not. I'm still not thrilled with this game, in fact, I haven't finished the entire game yet, but it does get slightly more entertaining after the demo. Personally, I thought the best feature this game had going for it was with the collectible Owls, which is in every scene of the Collector's Edition, at least one of which Morph. Here's what you can expect to find in both editions to help you decide which version is right for you if you decide to buy it:
In January of 1912, your husband arrived in Siberia brimming with excitement at the possibility of finding a legendary tomb. This is no ordinary tomb, this is the crypt that holds the remains of a woman scorned. A vengeful woman who went on a murderous spree, killing anyone and everyone responsible for her broken heart. Four months later, Dave's expedition team located the infamous tomb, but no one has been heard from since. He and his team are presumed to be dead, but somehow, he's reaching out to his beloved wife, with cries for help! Has Dave unleashed 200 years of fury from a vengeful spirit (sounds more like a Spirits of Revenge plot doesn't it?)
I must admit, I had a hard time getting through the demo, I was utterly bored with the storyline and the mundane tasks at hand. The only features that got me through it, was because some of the mini games were entertaining, and I really liked the Hidden Collectible Owls (they are more blended and challenging than they are in the League of Light series). In the Collector's Edition version, each scene has at least one Owl, but most locations have two. (there is a pull out tab that tells you how many are in that current scene) One of the Owls are simply well blended into the scenery, but the second Owl is a fairly slow moving Morph, which was super entertaining, I wish they all morphed! There are 80 Owls total, hidden within 36 different locations, and once you have found all of them, a Hidden Bonus Chapter will be unlocked, therefore you get 2 bonus chapters with the Collector's Edition!
The Hidden Objects are basic and I think they lack imagination. There are Silhouetted Shape finds, Interactive List finds and some that require finding and Replacing Misplaced items. There are also Zoom Zone HOP's that have a handful of items to find as well. Remember the good ole days when objects were actually hidden because they were cleverly blended into the scenes? Well, forget them, because these are just junk piles with objects strewn about a room, and plain ole boring.
The Mini Games weren't all that bad, and are this games only saving grace in my opinion, but I haven't come across any of them that are really challenging. Below are brief descriptions of some of the games you'll encounter during the demo:
1) Place torn card fragments correctly.
2) Restore the symbols on the paper in the correct order by selecting Roman Numeral cards in order, than clicking on the symbols that are displayed on the cards as each new card tells a story.
3) Select and place the cards on their corresponding dolls.
4) Match the bottom beads to the top image by swapping columns of beads.
5) Complete the central inscription by placing moving symbols onto the central symbols.
6) Place the correct items onto the correct figurines, using directional arrows and interacting with each figurine's items to expose other items.
REFLECTIONS OF LIFE GAMES AVAILABLE:
Call of the Ancestors (CE 8-13-16)
Dark Architech (CE 1-14-16)
Equilibrium (CE 4-18-15)
Hearts Taken (CE 5-13-17)
Tree of Dreams (CE 6-21-14)
The Collector's Edition has 8 Music Soundtracks, replayable Videos, replayable Hidden Object Scenes and Mini Games, 11 Concept Art pictures, 16 Wallpapers, 15 Achievements to earn, 80 Collectible Owls some of which Morph, a built in Strategy Guide, a Bonus Chapter and a Hidden Bonus Chapter (Gemini Hearts) once all Owls have been collected. This demo kept me busy with some interesting mini-games and basic HOPs about a woman who goes looking for her love, who has been missing for two months. The storyline is the only thing that really kept me interested with a lot of potential. The visuals were simplistic and kind of pre-school, which is surprising with this game developer. There was no build up of the storyline and too much was left out to get a good grasp of why anyone would want to see how it ends. Still, it did keep me busy, like I said and might be a good game for beginners. I won't invest in this game, mostly because I'm not in to the magic and fantasy style, but also because it needs to be cleaned up and polished a bit. Thanks, Mia. :) Show less
