This is a far cry from Poe's "Lenore" that I enjoyed reading, growing up with his poetry and grim tales. But in the gaming world, this rendition works just fine. This is a far cry from Poe's "Lenore" that I enjoyed reading, growing up with his poetry and grim tales. But in the gaming world, this rendition works just fine. Actually, this is a very entertaining game and I always love our very handsome Dupin. I never miss an offering from Dark Tales, they are exceptional but for one or two "bad eggs".
There is much to like about Lenore: The graphics are gorgeous, the colors rich and beautiful. The characters and voices, as always, are rendered perfectly, the period dress and scenery indoors and out are very detailed and interesting.
All the games and puzzles are quite enjoyable, the challenge good, for me not one disappointment. I am a huge fan of the Custom Level for lowering the hint and skip recharge times. Also the choice of levels offered allows everyone to get in on the game, regardless of skill level.
The Poe tales always have provided excellent adventure, mystery, crime solving, games, interesting visuals, the game pace is never slow or boring.. I've never experienced a tech problem to spoil the fun. I'll not add description of the story/plot to my ramblings. Don't want to spoil someone's fun and description has been covered quite well by reviewers ahead of me.
Not many extras this time around, but my main reason for purchasing CE is to get the Bonus Chapter and the Guide. Well, I'm eager to help Dupin solve this case, so off I go to thwart the evil doings of the Crows League.

5 Chapters Plus a Bonus Chapter - Strategy Guide: 41 Pages
Debonair Dupin returns in another exciting game! You are off to the town of Goldstone as the assistant to the ever-handsome Dupin, who has just received a much-needed face-life from the game’s illustrators. Children are disappearing within the town. Summoned by the mayor, you learn that the Crows League is involved in the abductions. After writing a letter to his father to abdicate his position, it seems that the mayor’s own son may be involved with the cult as well. After passing a test by the town tavern’s ghostly owner, you learn about Lenore, a young girl orphaned at a young age who is now betrothed to the mayor’s son. What sinister plot is being concocted by the secret cult of the Crows League? And, why are the town’s children being kidnapped?
This is my favorite series by this developer. The graphics are incredibly beautiful as always with AMAX. The story, for a change, kept my attention and the pace is active with plenty of activities. The HOP scenes and puzzles are creative and well-done. You collect extremely large feathers, which practically jump out at you from the scene There are morphing objects as well which are not as easy to locate. To me, this game is an improvement from recent games. There are NO HELPERS (alas nevermore - a raven, crow, cat, dog, or hybrid-ferret will help you) within this game. It is puzzle-intense and fast moving. There is a wonderfully crafted escape room puzzle at the end of the demo. One of the best puzzles I have seen from AMAX in quite some time. Kudos AMAX!
HOP SCENES: They vary in style and difficulty in locating the items. There is a storybook sequence in the beginning of the game which has items so large, you cannot help but see them. You will not even have to search for them – most are highlighted within the scene. However, there are several mini-HOP scenes locating a small number (four to six) of crows, buttons, chalk and numbers. In some of these scenes the items are somewhat difficult to locate. There is a very creative and well-designed multiple step scene in which the player locates three each of different items followed by a matching scene in which two symbols are combined to create a larger symbol.
PUZZLES: The puzzles are incredibly well-designed. To me, they are the best part of the game. The puzzles are of easy and middle-level difficulty. There are some which give you the option to choose between Casual and Hard settings. There is a maze puzzle involving crows, a jigsaw puzzle to recreate a mirror, a couple of switch puzzles, a lock puzzle, a rope puzzle to untangle live wires.
FAVORITE PUZZLES: (A) Escape Room! Escape a room by passing through three sets of booby traps. Find that “proper time” to enter while avoiding swinging blades, spikes, and knives. Very creative! (B) Maze puzzle! This is a fiendish little puzzle in which you must move a scarab through a maze without getting killed. You lose life force when you are hit by a blade. You must open locks with keys you collect of the same color. You can also collect repair kits to repair your scarab. The difficult version is truly difficult!
LEVELS: Casual, Advanced, Hard, Custom
Hints and Skips: 5 to 200 seconds
EXTRAS:
Map is provided as you play the game
16 Achievements
Collect 66 feathers and 32 Morphing Objects
Replay 16 puzzles and 21 HOP scenes
10 Wallpapers, 10 Concept Art, 5 Screensavers, Music, Movies

PUZZLES: (1) Easy 2) Moderate difficulty (3) Difficult
A. Choice between Casual and Hard. Maze puzzle. Rotate and switch (in hard version) four (4) rings to create paths for two crows to travel to the other end of the maze.

E. Rope puzzle. Untangle a series of live wires so that none intersect with the each other. Rating: 2
F. Assembly puzzle. Create a chemical compound to expose a message written in invisible ink. Rating: 2
G. Physical puzzle. “Sock it to the Crow.” Sleight of hand. Follow a tile with a fist on it as it moves rapidly back-and-forth with other tiles. When they stop moving, choose that tile from the rest. 3X Rating: 2

Puzzles-not too hard but definitely different than the norm. Music-very good. Voice overs-very good. I liked the voice overs in this game because they didn't sound too stilted in the actors' speech. So far a bit different from the usual HOP's. Will definitely buy.

If you have read my review of The Raven, you can tell that I was really disappointed with it. It just did not fit Poe’s style at all. Lenore comes immediately after The Raven. The message at the beginning of each game notes that it is based not on a story but a poem by Poe. Unless you have read those poems, it is hard to say how much of the game is actually based on its particular poem. But the game Lenore is definitely more like the Dark Tales games we have all come to know and love. While the two games are said to be based on different poems, the games’ descriptions themselves, as well as the opening of Lenore in particular, tell us that the two games are related. For example, note the names of the two "guest" characters, Alan and Lenore, in both games. [Yes, I know that Alan's last name and even his profession is different in the two games, but apparently someone just goofed about that!] Both also involve some kind of a Crows' League. In fact, the very opening scene in Lenore indicates that it must be a prequel to The Raven. But that is good, because much of Raven's suspense derives from the fact that we knew nothing about these two characters. But then, Raven failed to explain so much. As I said in my review of that game, it just had too many "holes" in its storyline; and Lenore does a great job of filling at least most of them.
So you see why I am comparing the two games – because of the clear relationship between the two. Both games have great graphics and music, to be sure. But this is where the comparison ends, at least as far as anything positive is concerned. As I mentioned, Raven does not fit Poe's style at all; Lenore does. Lenore also has a far more developed, one might even say more complete, *and* interesting storyline. Its Achievements are also more sensible, both in number and type. You might recall that Raven had 49 achievements; Lenore has only 16. Raven also had a lot of "weird" achievements, three of which actually *required* you to play the game twice, because it gave a different achievement for two opposite responses to the same situation (for example, to pay or not to pay, to talk or not to talk, etc.)! Lenore does not have any such nonsense. Instead, it gives us the more usual *and* reasonable achievements: for not skipping puzzles or using hints, etc. Like Raven, Lenore also has a variety of interesting puzzles and hidden object scenes. But in Raven, the "weird" achievements associated with the various puzzles and scenes made it difficult to enjoy those puzzles and scenes or, for that matter, the game itself. Lenore is "free" of any such "distractions."
In short, I really enjoyed Lenore; and I believe you will too. Feel free to check out my review on The Raven, to see how and why I was so disappointed with that game. And if you were as disappointed as I was, possibly even disillusioned with the series itself, I think Lenore will "bring you back"! :) Show less

I almost didn't buy this one. So many people (reviewers with whom I usually agree, even) dissed this game. I can't figure out why! So Dupin looked a little older and wiser: big deal! I thought it was nice not seeing that baby-faced man again. So the story had nothing to do with Poe's poem Lenore. Frankly, I thought the story line more than made up for that!

This was a fun game to play, had a solid story line, good puzzles and hops. It was worthy of being a collectors ed IMNSHO.
I know that I've played games in the past that I felt weren't worth the time and effort, and after playing them again at another time, wondered why I didn't like it the first time through. I'm beginning to think that one's frame of mind can have a lot to do with how one views these games. I am VERY glad I didn't listen to the naysayers. I would have missed a good game if I had! Another case for you as assistant to the unforgettable Dupin. (Admirable, how he’s been able to keep his looks.) Your skills are needed in Goldstone: the mayor has written a letter, in which he asks for help in the recent disappearance of children. Even his son was abducted and he suspects, the mysterious Crows league could be behind this. Before you can meet him in person, you have to undergo a test in the town’s inn. The ghostly owner has you solve riddles and thereby you learn about Lenore. When she was an 8 year old child, the inn was raided, he and his wife were murdered and only she could hide and survive the incident. Now she is the fiancé of the mayor’s son.
The Crows league seems a sinister cult, sort of secret society, claiming to protect children. We will have to learn more about them, in order to free the children.
This is one of the best games in the Dark Tales series: fast paced, puzzle-intense and equipped with quite creative HO scenes. We have feathers to collect as well as morphing objects. Many cutscenes contribute to suspense in the game.

I'm waiting for the new EAP game and hoping it will be a strong one with Dupin's previous illustration

With a good tempo and a strong game play, this episode was really fun, but with some minor issues here and there and some frenzy puzzles to solve. You get to collect golden feathers (usually 2) in every scene and bird-like morphings that light up. I liked the idea of a lit, caged crow as a hint icon in the Menu bar. And the bonus round is equally strong. The scenario good be better...
