Normally I skip most of the mini-games because they are usually jigsaw type puzzles and ring puzzles etc. and I hate those. The games in this game were different and fun, I think I only skipped 2 in the entire game and that's saying a lot.
I loved the environments which were all normal every day looking places, which is my personal preference and what we find far too few of in the hidden object genre.
The story was told throughout so you never lost sight of what was happening and why.
It was relatively easy but not so easy that it became boring. I loved it so much I'm replaying it again today!

One thing I'd like all game producers to include, is a method of going back after the game's completed and retry skipped puzzles without having to play the whole game again. I skipped a few because I was immersed in the story, but would like to 'redo' just for fun! Show less

this is a good HO game. i played on the easiest level and there is a good hint system. it is about you investigating your grandfather's artifact and running into something that you don't understand. the evil force takes your friend and inhabits her body and some other people you run across. you are trying to rescue them with the artifact.

You and your photographer arrived at the Kilbourn Observatory to work on a new piece for Fright Chasers, a paranormal journal. The trip quickly turns into a horror show when your friend is kidnapped by otherworldly force and you spot sightings of the late Anne Kilbour. Is your mind playing tricks on you or is the observatory really haunted? I had high expectations for Fright Chasers. As we all know, Mad Head Games is a HOPA mastermind and each of their new series has been stellar so far. While Fright Chasers is still an extremely solid offering, it does not live up to Mad Head’s usual sky-high standards. First of all, the storyline is full of overused clichés, even the supposed “twists”don’t even feel surprising. Nonetheless, Mad Head still finds ways to keep things fresh and engaging by incorporating the storytelling into the mini-games. For a game titled Fright Chasers, there is very little “fright” to go around. Sure, there are sprinkles of horror elements here and there, but they are hardly any frightening. The gameplay in Fright Chasers: Dark Exposure is a little simpler than what I am used to from Mad Head Games. The game is well-made all-around, although it could have been more complex. The hidden object scenes are creative, but objects are too easy to find. Similarly, the mini-games often have low challenge level and some of them are a tad tedious. The Spirit Camera is a nice extra feature that enhances the experience – the camera allows you to reveal supernatural elements through mini hidden object puzzles. If there is one department that Fright Chasers: Dark Exposure absolutely excels in, that would be the production. The high-quality graphics are complemented wonderful visual effects and terrific scene designs. Moreover, the excellent background music rises and falls where it needs to be and the voice-overs are mostly flawless. I played the CE version of this game and the main game of Fright Chasers: Dark Exposure has a typical length of around four hours and the bonus chapter comes in at around the hour mark. The Collector’s Edition includes the typical bling. You'll enjoy this new series without the bonus chapter too. I enjoyed Fright Chasers but there are two other games in the BFG catalog worth checking out that are more frightening and challenging. TRUE FEAR: FORSAKEN SOULS CE AND FRIGHT CE. Demo this new series for yourself it worth a game coupon. Cheers! Show less

The story is actually pretty good. Two reporters or investigators or thrill seekers (whatever) checking out this old observatory. And, the adventure goes on from there with a dead wife and a friend floating in mid-air, and this really cool camera...
I liked having to use the drone to achieve my objectives...kind of fun and different. The HOAs were pretty much the same as all HOAs but they did change them up a bit.
Scene changes were really nice...sky changing, rooms moving around...that kind of stuff. Puzzles were challenging and some of them unique. You can use the map to figure out where your action areas are and to move more easily around the game. I also liked that there were no collectibles in each scene...thank goodness!
I will add this to my list to own...I recommend you try the demo for sure! Show less

I liked this one. It had some innovative uses for some of the items, which made you try items in different places that you normally wouldn't. Puzzles were too easy, as was pretty much the whole game, but the graphics and sounds almost made up for this. With more of a challenge and a little better storyline I would have given this 5 stars.
I recommend this game!

You and a friend are exploring the now vacant but once acclaimed Kilbourn Observatory. Ryan and Anne Kilbourn worked there for years until there was a terrible accident that tragically took the life of Anne. Not long after the accident Ryan went missing and it is as if he vanished from the face of the earth. Ryan and Anne were said to have created a device that would open a door to another universe but maybe that is not such a good thing. Enveloped in grief over Anne’s death Ryan began refining the device with hope that he would even be able to reunite with Anne one day.
With Fright Chasers Dark Exposure being a game from a very talented developer it of course includes wonderful graphics as well as an excellent sound package that includes believable voiceovers that relay all of the emotion that the characters “feel” in the game.
Your tools include a transporter type map and, hold your breath – wait for it . . . yes, you guessed it a gimmick. This time we have a camera that when fitted with a special lens will allow us to see the spirit world. The camera isn’t that annoying as far as gimmicks go and it does serve a purpose in the game. There is also another tool that can qualify as a gimmick since you will use it for protection but there is a puzzle associated with its use.
I enjoyed the HOPS in this game more than in recent games and found many of them to be very creative and well-designed so that they fit well into the storyline. Even more than the HOPS, I absolutely loved the puzzles. Some of the puzzles were different and I think one of my favorites was the safe puzzle where we must recreate the pattern from some photos in order to open the safe. It is a bit tricky and lots of fun to figure out the right combination. The puzzles are also a bit more difficult than usual at times so I wish they could be replayed in the CE extras but that ability doesn’t seem to be built into the game.
If you prefer the CE version of a game this one includes Collectibles include the same old boring Mad Head Signature Swirl to find, There are Morphing Objects to be found in the usual places as well.. Of course there are Achievements to earn as well. Wallpapers, Concept Art, Soundtracks, replay of 21 HOP Scenes, Case Files to assemble, a Bonus Chapter, and a 46-page Strategy Guide.
I found this game to be very good with some great gameplay moments. Coupled with excellent puzzles and creative HOPS I think this is probably one of the best games to be released in recent weeks. That being said the game theme became much different than I originally hoped it would be. Unfortunately, we have another evil that is taking control and I am really over that theme. It looks like Fright Chasers is going to continue as a series but I hope that the developer might find some different content for future game themes. All in all, even though I am not fond of where the game went, it was done quite well and had moments that provided a lot of entertainment and a need to think along the way. Even though I really enjoyed this game, please try the demo to see if it is one you will enjoy as well. Happy Gaming! Show less

Mad is one of my favorite developers and have produced quite a few great games. This one fell somewhat short of what I expected. The graphics were well done. They were colorful and not the dreary type I usually see in this type of game. The music and effects went along with the action, but where I felt it fell way short were the voice overs. I swear it started off with a male and female when all of a sudden he turns into a she. Maybe it was a medical problem. I don't know. There are not a lot of voice overs and I found if I wanted to read the dialog, I didn't dare look at the scene or the bar would go away never to be seen again. I missed a lot of what was going on, because of this.
I really liked the way they did the hidden object games. Not the usual lists. I had to do this to or that to get the list. Just a different way of getting there. Great job on that. Now, those mini games. Some were simple, but most were way beyond my understanding and patience level. Usually I can at least understand what I'm suppose to do, but most of these were so convoluted I had no idea how to even get started. I wish they had shown the solution so I would have understood. The map was helpful, but there wasn't a lot of back and forth. However, when needed it did show where there were things to be done and would transport.
As I said, the story isn't new. Wife dies, man wants her back, she tries to help etc.. etc... etc. However, the saving grace was the twist at the end of the demo! As it turns out... you didn't think I was going to tell you did you.... I was bored with the story until this part and I'm toying with the idea of making the purchase just to see how it ends.
This is a decent game. Give the demo a try and see if you like it. If you're not tired of ghosts and such, you might just enjoy it. Show less

Where oh where has all the fright gone to? Oh where oh where can it be? Things take a drastic turn after the demo, what little fright was present in the demo, disappears quickly into HOPA oblivion. Fright Chasers, chase anything but fright in this latest Mad Head edition. They may as well be chasing lost puppy dogs. If you're going to introduce a game in the horror genre, at least make an attempt at fright! Here's a recap of my review to help you decide which version if either is right for you:
This is the part where I sing praises about Mad Head games, usually. I felt a bit let down by this new series intro, because it's anything but Frightening! Mad Head may want to go back to the drawing board, they're beginning to get stuck in a rut. Same graphics, they stand room for improvement because at times they are blurry and cartoonish in nature, it's hard to feel scared when they remind me of a Saturday morning cartoon! Same symbols, there's symbols all over the place, including the same CE Spiral Collectibles, not to mention the fact that you would expect to see astrological symbols in this game, but they still chose to rehash their "Beyond" symbols. And now for the really disappointing news....they chose to add a Spirit Camera to reveal supernatural elements, a.k.a balls of white light. gasp, sigh, gasp. I was on the fence with how I really felt about this game, but I did love that this game takes place in current time. I have a cell phone for reference, and a drone as my helper. Also I liked that I didn't have a broken purse zipper!
Fright Chasers have set up camp near the Kilbourn Observatory, home to Ryan and Anne Kilbourn. Rumor has it, Anne still roams the hallways of the observatory as her grieving husband works diligently to find a way to defy the laws of physics, to join her. Before you can find a way inside (it's complicated) your partner Lisa becomes a victim of something supernatural, or at least astrophysical. One thing's for sure, ghosts really do exist, and Lisa will have plenty of things to blog about, if she makes it out alive!
The Collector's Edition version has everything you'd expect from Mad Head, because they offer the same exact bling in the same exact fashion with all of their games. Remember Rite of Passage Heart of the Storm? Remember Shadowplay, Maze Subject 360, and Beyond? These games came roaring in like a lion with fresh storylines, and sharp detailed graphics like no other dev had presented before. I fear they have fallen into the eipix trap, where they are pressured to create a new game each month, sometimes multiple games a month. I've got all the time in the world, to wait patiently for that next "cutting edge" game. I'll gladly board the Mad Head train again, but first it needs to head back to the station for repairs.
The Hidden Object Scenes actually do a decent job of trying to keep them relevant. The very first one is extremely interactive with multiple finds, followed by a small Zoom Zone HOP, and a Matching Pairs scene. In the CE version, as well as all of their other CE's, each scene has a Morphing Object to find for added challenge. If only they were offered in the main game....if only.
The Mini Games are in abundance, some are fun, but they all seem to be of the same nature. Below are brief descriptions of some of the games you'll encounter during the demo:
1) Click on the triangles in the correct order, by trial and error.
2) Drag to rotate rings to complete the picture.
3) Use phone controls to guide the drone. (the drone is used for several applications, and not discarded in the entire demo!)
4) Use up and down arrows to enter the correct padlock combination.
5) Swap plates so the projected image matches the symbol shown.
6) Fill the board with colored lights so that it matches the number of colored light in each column and row.
7) Connect the circles on the top and bottom of the grid by passing through all dots shown on the clue without overlapping.
8) Same drone game, different application.
9) Recreate the pattern from the photo on the grid, passing over a tile multiple times will change it's color.
10) Connect the dots on the globe so they match the image on the paper using directional arrows.
The Collector's Edition version has Wallpapers, Concept Art pictures, 7 Music Soundtracks, 10 Achievements to earn, 17 replayable Hidden Object Scenes, Case Files, 17 HOP Morphing Objects, 29 Collectible Spirals that unlock bonus content, a built in Strategy Guide and a Bonus Chapter, enjoy not being frightened!
