I enjoyed very much the beta test of the game. It was a good, uncomplicated story that I liked because of the theater setting and it is always fun trying to find the mysterious troublemaker.

The graphics were beautiful with fine clarity and excellent color. Characters were rendered nicely and the background scenery was done nicely. The music was pleasant and appropriate.

There were not a great amount of puzzles and HOGs in the trial version, but I found them all fun and the right amount of challenge for me except for one frustrating puzzle. My favorite mini game was becoming a seamstress for a bit in the dressing room and working on a beautiful gown.

The beta test was quite a while ago and unfortunately I have forgotten some points that may have been useful in my review. But I do remember it being a delightful game, void of monsters and demons lurking in the dark. I will purchase with today's BOGO and enjoy discovering the culprit in this light mystery game Show less

I can't believe the low ratings from some of the other reviewers. I have always loved the Danse Macabre series. Clearly, it has been a work of love and creativity for the devs in creating it. This is the best one yet in my opinion and one of my favorite games of 2017.

The beauty and thought put into the game is great. This is definitely a game for music and history lovers.

The beauty and thought put into the game is great. This is definitely a game for music and history lovers.

Women gamers like myself can appreciate a game that doesn't rely on tropes like fights, runes, and icky sweet, so-called female romance fantasy games obviously written by male devs with no real experience with real women.

Keep doing what you are doing, devs. I am cheering you on. Show less

I was hesitant on playing Danse Macabre, I do love all the games they put out, but the reviews kept me away, BUT I changed my mind and so glad I did. Based on the Demo, The Graphics are improved and astounding! Love the scenes, they're a Beauty. Storyline was very cool, it kept me intrigued. Not all stories are the same, different degrees of fun and emotional and suspenseful. I enjoy relaxing while I play, never want to be in a rush. This was not a hard game but it was fun, very interactive...there's a ghost with his/her shenanigans, a little cheesy at times, up to No good. Set in an Opera house with the players involved, being kept from performing by a vengeful Ghost. It's a buy for me, I have got to see how it ends. Like I said, Graphics are beautiful and it's very colorful, mini games are well done, not hard or frustrating. HOPs are totally interactive and fun for a change!! I'm not a big fan of intense clutter, but hidden object games have come a long way, so interactions are a Plus. Never a dull moment. I totally Recomment this Game. Enjoy!! Show less

I was chose this game because I liked the story. I didn't regret my choice. Beautiful clear graphics l love it! Intresting story! But I don't understand easy or not this riddles for me. I'll continue to play.

Based on the completed game (Main portion only): The storyline in this game is pretty wacky. The basic premise is fine, but for me, there were a lot of ??? moments, particularly the further I played. The best HOPs, in my opinion, are seen in the demo; the first, in particular, is highly interactive. In the body of the game, we revert to standard lists/silhouettes, w/ varying degrees of interaction; for example, at the end of one, we're given a 6-piece FROG to work. It bears noting that some of the HO scenes are visited twice. The mini-games in this game ended up being better than the demo had led me to anticipate, as I hadn't expected there to be many of more than medium difficulty . There were a couple retreads from previous games by this dev, but none I've seen used by them more than once. Better, there were a number of that were completely new to me, & posed an agreeable degree of challenge. Overall, I found there to be a good range of degree of difficulty, & a good assortment, as well. The graphics ranged from average to excellent; there's one screen in particular where, if you choose, you can have fun interacting w/ the lightning bugs (w/o, thankfully, having to catch them). The collectibles vary in appearance; most are fairly easy to spot, some are harder, & one is so obscured you should probably get an achievement if you find it w/o the aid of the Strategy Guide. Most HOPs offer a Match 3 alternative; extras, aside from the bonus chapter, include replay of mini-games & HOPs, & a Souvenir Room, as per usual w/ this dev. As I haven't yet played the bonus chapter, I can't give any feedback on that, but my play time for the main game was about 4-4.5 hours. Since I haven't played the bonus yet, I won't try to say if I think the CE or SE is better in this case; rather, I'll just recommend doing the demo, & seeing what you think. I hope they keep this series. I have all nine in the series in CE and I played all but two. Some I like better than others. My favorites are Thin Ice and Moulin Rouge Edition of Crimson Cabaret. I liked some of the puzzles-maze and others. I thought they got harder in the bonus chapter. In the bonus chapter they had a boat puzzle I couldn't figure out so I wrote down the answer from the guide and did it and it looks fun. I like the new Eipix indicator for the music note collectible because the icon is faint until you find it. That is better than just the count they had.

16 hops in the main game and 4 in the bonus. They were ok. Most of the time you had to find 6 items, then 6 pictures to find. The item number seems too small. I liked that it had some to pair, but again the number of items way too small. One in the bonus game had find 6 items, then 6 more and 6 more, eighteen. But I don't like how they broke it up.

The full CE data was 542.1 mbs. That is way too small. There are some SVs that have more data, like Equilibrium. I think Equilibrium SV has 1G. A good data number in my opinion is 900 mbs to 1.4 Gs. There are No morphs in this game. I think morphs add a lot more data. Still it's small considering some trials are say 450 mbs.

5 Chapters + Bonus. Collect 30 music notes. 8 pictures, 7 Video, Achievements, Souvenir room with 30 items. Replay 18 Hops and 21 Mini-games. No morphs. Show less

Based only on the demo: I found this to be absolutely fascinating! You do need to take the few seconds necessary to read the dialogue and an occasional item that you find with information about the story to really understand the plot, however.

The music is very pleasant and appropriate, the mini-games are imaginative and have very clear instructions, there are collectibles in most, if not all, scenes and the HOS are varied and quite creative. The collectibles are musical notes and some take a bit of searching to find, but others are right out in the open. There is a ghost, but at least during the demo, it wasn't at all terrifying; just a bit threatening once or twice.

My one point of irritation is one that I have joined many others in asking this dev to change for a very long time: when the map is open and we click on our current location, the map should simply close rather than saying, "I'm already there." All other devs that design this type of game long since made that change and players are much happier about it. This is the only reason I gave this game four, not five, stars.

This will be one of the two CE's I purchase this weekend during the sale. (I have two GCC's saved and this is a great time to use them!) Show less

And it starts with the uncanny: The introduction shows a station at night with a lonely man, waiting. In his hand a medaillon, with the picture of a beautiful woman. When the train comes in, the medaillon lies broken on the ground, the man is gone….
Then we are at the theatre. The star of the opera had been Andrea Belmont, who committed suicide lately. We meet her sister Julia. She intends to perform in honor of Andrea. Julia is first startled at our sight but relieved realizes, we are not a ghost. She tells us of uncanny events and accidents at the theatre. Light bulbs explode and you get a feeling of a strange presence in the room. A ghost? She has greeted us as the new master costume designer and asks for repair of her torn dress. Behind the stage we meet another staff member, Clementine. Now we ourselves experience strange things, when the mirror breaks upon her leaving the room. Next, Julia is caught in a stage mount, then we find Clementine dead in the instrument room – somebody or something is definitely after these women.
Back on the stage, we see Julia drawn high up to the catwalk by the cable winch, used for requisites. A ghost materializes beneath the puzzled director. This is not the planned performance, something has gone wrong. And that is not all: having released Julia from the cables, our escape by elevator is hampered by the ghost, we saw at the stage. He claims, Andrea would be with him.
So have this man and Andrea been lovers at their lifetime? Was he the man at the station and Andrea wouldn’t live without him? There is definitely more to that, than meets the eye.
This mixture of paranormal activity and crime unfolds fast. Puzzles and HOS are variable, some rather creative. But apart from the intro scene, the eerie atmosphere of the supernatural element in the game is missing. Show less

Hello friends! As always, I review mostly on the game play and leave the story line to those who can do a much better job than I. The graphics in this game were very nice in long distance scenes, but were quite blurry in the close up and cut scenes. They seem to have gotten worse with this game. Colors are bright and clear, but that doesn't help much. Game play was very good and I had no problems during the demo. Voice overs weren't bad, but not a lot of character interaction, which definitely helps you really get into a game. Not much in the way of sound FX either, so this game was pretty quiet, except for the music. Animation was quite good, with eye and facial movements.

HOPs are a combination of interactive lists and riddles. Items were fairly easy to spot, and again, some scenes were a bit cluttered. You can switch to a match 3 if you prefer. Puzzles are the same as always and are fairly simple as well. Hint system is usually helpful, but sometimes just tells you to move on. We do have the transport feature for long distance travel to other locations. Yes, there is a lot of backtracking. The jump map was quite boring and not very helpful, except to jump to a location. Easier and faster to just use the transport. Someone really got lazy with this one.

Collectibles are 30 musical notes, large and easy to spot. The game definitely needed something more in this department. Collectibles were very disappointing.

When I beta tested it, it seemed a lot more fun, but fell way short today. I was surprised at the extremely short demo as well. Hard to get into a game when it only lasts 30 minutes. This addition was not challenging at all, the story moved very slowly and often left you wondering what you are doing and why. It got to the point where I felt like I was just running back and forth. Not enough action or character interaction to keep you interested. Story could have been really nice, but without voices and sound FX, it just sort of slowed down to a crawl and became boring. It just did not flow very well. I really liked this series, but the last few have been very disappointing. I really do not feel this one is CE worthy. It would probably be a nice game for a beginner, but not for a seasoned gamer. I often find that a CE makes a better SE game, but I'm not sure about this one. Without extras, it's just a walk-though. I will recommend this one for beginners or those of us who just want a simple easy game now and then...I have a number of those. Unfortunately, not a buy for me.
