If you're looking for a story, you will be disappointed,as with the other in this series. But if you like a good solitaire game, this is that. I wanted the solitaire game, not the story so I was not so disappointed. I know what to expect with most of these games, but they are always good for fun solitaire, which I love to do.
I recommend this game!

Only played three levels, it was dragged out and dismal, not very appealing at all!
I don't recommend this game.

I mistakenly gave the first game in this 3 game series 3 stars. I should have known better, nothing ever changes by this dev other than the title, and this game proves my statement! Look at the pictures shown in the synopsis for the previous game, the picture of the dark alley with a door and steps. It's the exact same picture location that this game has, exactly the same!

Story? What story? If there was the slightest chance you could have imagined a story by looking at the scenes in the first Detective Solitaire, then how can this be a continuation story if it has the exact same location pictures? If everything is exactly the same as the first game, and I'm positive it will be the same as the third game in this series, that tells me that once again, the only thing they changed was the title! They are taking advantage of the consumer, you and I!
You can choose from 9 Crime-themed card backs, and 3 face card font styles. The game begins with a tutorial in Newbie Mode which allows you to replay any level or Professional Mode which only allows you to play the entire 10 level pack.
This is a Higher/Lower style Solitaire game where the only goal is to remove all of the Gold Cards. Once the gold cards have been collected, you will earn the maximum amount of points and the game ends even if other regular cards remain. If you remove all gold cards you'll get a perfect score and the points of that level are added to the next level similar to bowling scores. You must earn the required amount of points to unlock the next location, there are 12 Locations and each location has 10 levels.
When you remove cards with a round blue gem, you will receive either +499 points, a Joker, a Shuffle or Mulligan (undo) and you can buy Jokers, Shuffles, and Mulligans within the Shop with the points you have earned.
Once again, this game states that there are Achievements to earn, but I've yet to earn one, but then again, I didn't play further than the demo because I have no desire to waste money on a game that has nothing new to offer. I refuse to even use a PCC. When and if they decide to change something other than the title, I may consider it, but only if they make an option that allows me to remove all of the cards, not just the Gold Cards.

This is the same old format from a developer I usually avoid. Based on the game description, I downloaded it. Sadly, no storyline. Just game after game of collecting the gold cards. 2 modes, Newbie being the first. You can't play the second before finishing the first. It is exactly the same, just harder. I played one game and then deleted.
I don't recommend this game.

A few short weeks ago we got the first Detective Solitaire, The Man without a Face (great title, big nothing game play). Now, with The Forbidden Magic, I guess the story continues.

The problem is, there is no story! None. A title is all we get. The rest is just one-up-one-down solitaire, the same as the first game. Not just similar, the same. Oh, maybe the cards deal in a different order, and the layouts change, but the background are the same! The chapter names are different, but that does not make for a story or a new game!
I own the first, and play it now and again when I wait for the microwave to beep or noodle water to boil, but that's all it's worth, a bit of time-wasting.
Poor quality game. The basic things to earn (with special cards) or purchase (with coins earned by playing or special cards) like mulligans and wild cards. If you own one of this developers games you don't need more! Show less
