I love all the editions and now Eipix presents the next installment of the much beloved Amaranthine Voyage series! You've received a distress signal from the frozen world of Corra and what a world it is. Exploring an alien world should be a great adventure, regardless of how hostile or dangerous the world in question might be and Eipix really delivers with this edition. Scify fantasy worlds are even more exciting, given the fact that they can also contain all sorts of creatures and magic artifacts. It is also possible to obtain something nice by combining the two concepts together. The main objective in this phenomenal game is to explore a frozen world and save its inhabitants. You play the role of an explorer whose task is to rescue people from different worlds and solve problems. The gameplay is standard for the genre, which means that most of the time you’ll be scouring the environments for useful items, while the rest of the time you’ll be busy solving various puzzles, some more difficult than others and the hidden object puzzles require extra brain power because you are searching for foreign items in the FAR FUTURE which are less than familiar. The story starts with a crash and an unexpected turn of events, although you should probably be familiar with the premise if you are intimate with the series. As it turns out, you end up in a frozen world called Corra, and things are not looking very well. In essence, the people of Corra are dying, and they need someone’s help in order to overcome to hardships ahead. I thought the hidden object scenes were pretty cool, especially since there are multiple mechanics working together to provide you with a much more dynamic experience. In addition, the world exploration is pretty neat as well. The puzzles are not terribly difficult, but they can make you break a light sweat if you disable the hints and you do not use the skip button. Moreover, the graphics are very detailed as well, which works wonders for the game’s atmosphere. The same goes for the voice acting and the sound effects, because they all come together to provide you with quite the experience. The EXPERIENCE is different than any of the other editions in the series. In the end, Amaranthine Voyage: Winter Neverending is well written and very original, and the puzzles are pretty unique as well, but there’s something quite cozy about the game like you are really there. Hence, if you are up for a nice experience and you do not mind the wintery feeling it evokes, this adventure will keep you busy for a while. Excellent job and worthy of the 4/5 star rating! Show less

Amaranthine Voyage Winter Neverending is game number six of the series and I keep holding out hope that maybe, just maybe this time they will get it right and offer a game that is worthy. Well, I don’t think that Winter Neverending is that game. Eve Glover is back and for a top-notch scientist she seems quite clueless. On the trail of the latest distress signal, Dr. Glover crosses the portal and arrives in a wintry vista that presents a chilly challenge for her latest foray into other worlds.
The HOPs are varied and many are interactive. The mini-games are very good and some were a bit challenging for me. Between the excellent HOPS and the mini-games I found the game to be quite entertaining and one that took me two days to complete. The developer has made an effort to bring some new twists to this game and it is appreciated by this HOPA addict.
The storyline seems to be loosely based on a 1970s sci-fi film that I loved but as much as loved that film there is not really much about the game that is the captured my interest at least in the beginning. Although the game starts slow and seems very boring it does pick up and the storyline is interesting. Once I purchased the game and started playing, I regretted leaving an almost scathing review when the CE was released. The developer has jumped in and has made an effort to bring a really good sci-fi game to market. If you passed on the CE version of the game I recommend that you try Amaranthine Voyage Winter Neverending as it might be a game you will really enjoy. Show less

Good story and game with lots of puzzles and nice graphics however compared too the earlier games in this series I didn't enjoy as much as the others.
I still recommend playing this game as it was a nice change having a story set in the snow.
Thanks Big Fish:)

Eve Glover has received a distress signal from Corra, one of many worlds the portal has given her access to. Corra is a brutally cold world that would be uninhabitable if not for the Pylon Core, an amazing device that provides a source of heat. In order for this civilization to survive, the Core requires an unusual type of energy, humans! People are "chosen" by lottery during the Thawing Ceremony by the Harvesters, a group controlled by the Senate, and feared by the people of Corra. Eve must find out why the Core needs human sacrifices, and why the chosen never return, before the Thawing Ceremony takes place.
Normally, I'm a huge fan of this Sci-fi series, the original Amaranthine Voyage shed light onto a whole new genre, and it had a storyline like none we've ever played. Winter Neverending, however, offers nothing new or exciting, I think this series needs to separate itself from the other ones, with new characters, and new ways of traveling to other worlds. The reason everyone liked the first couple of games was because of the concept of visiting alien planets, but this storyline doesn't feel like I'm on another planet, just someplace really cold, like Ohio. The Collector's Edition version has a Hidden Sign to collect in each scene, some of which are cleverly blended into the scenery, and there are the usual Achievements to earn. Both editions equip Eve with a Translator that works automatically, a Bow and Arrow, and a quick travel map, other than that, there are no gimmicks or sidekicks available.
The Hidden Object Scenes are the same ole same ole that duplicate all other games this dev produces, usually layered with 2 or 3 different types. There are Sketches of items to find, Interactive list finds, Morphing Object finds, and Progressive-Interactive Silhouetted Shape finds where you find the first item that matches the silhouetted shape and then use that item back in the scene interactively to expose the next item and so forth. In the Collector's Edition, some of the HOP's have a Morphing Object to find (there is a morphing icon when a morph is available) and you can opt for a Bubble Shooting Game instead of the Hidden Object Puzzle.
The Mini Games, with the exception of a couple, are way too simple to even qualify as a puzzle. Below are brief descriptions of some of the Mini Games you'll encounter during the demo:
1) Rotate the mirrors to direct the paths of light between pairs of like colored runestones.
2) Use a Bow and Arrow by lining the site onto the targeted object, and then selecting the tension to shoot the arrow.
3) Place puzzle fragments correctly.
4) Steer the vehicle along the path using directional arrows when it flashes to make left and right turns.
5) Select a gold token and move it to an available slot to turn adjacent blue tokens gold, followed by a computer move. The goal is to have more gold tokens than blue.
6) Align the outer ring with the inner ring symbols.
7) Select the sets of symbols that match the center symbol shown.
8) Move the yellow runes to their matching gray runes by selecting gray tiles to rotate the corner runes.
The Collector's Edition has 16 Achievements, 42 Hidden Signs, a Souvenir Room, 12 Morphing Objects within the HOS, 8 Music Soundtracks, 23 replayable Puzzles, 16 replayable HOP's, replayable Bubble Popper games, 8 Wallpapers, 8 Concept Art pictures, 10 Videos, replayable Puzzles and HOP's from Phantasmat games, a built in Strategy Guide and a Bonus Chapter. So far a challenging, this is one of my disappointments. Normally I don't care for the silhouette hidden objects, but in this case they were much better than trying to find things from a list that I had no idea what they were. Many were made up from the sci-fi vocabulary and made no sense to me. It was just point, click and hope for the best. I do believe I used the hint in this game more than any other. There are several types of hidden object scenes, from the silhouette, lists, interactive, and morphing. Mini games, well they were mini games which are not my favorites. I tried them all, but generally skipped after a few attempts. Those who like to spend the time figuring them out will really enjoy this game for sure.
Not really happy with the story line. I think it was okay, but I'm just tired of the supernatural, sci-fi, witches, ghosts and such that seems to be the only themes the developers can make these days. Just wishing for an old fashioned murder mystery sometime or another. I won't go into the story, because Big Fish gives you enough to get the idea.
If you are a sci-fi buff you will probably enjoy this more than I. Give the demo a try and see what you think. Show less
