Artifex Mundi has unveiled a fantastic game, what a way to start the week, a Mundi Monday! These devs have introduced some of my favorite HOPA game series, Nightmares from the Deep, Enigmatis, 9 Clues and Grim Legends. Releasing a decent Standard version on a Monday has me super excited, and I cannot wait to dive into Lost Grimoires after work today. The graphics are beautifully hand drawn, the characters are lifelike and detailed, and best of all, it seems to flow logically without seeming odd or bizarre. I did recognize a couple of voices however, from the game Enigmatis because it's a very distinct voice, you'll know exactly who I'm referring to if you've ever played Enigmatis. There aren't any collectibles, morphs or achievements that I have noticed so far, but I'll take a decent adventure game at a standard price, any day of the week!
The storyline isn't really new, and yes, it does involve more cloaked, mysterious, masked men, and Alchemy recipes, but I'm okay with that, because in this case, it doesn't come across as cartoonish and silly. You play the part of a young Alchemist returning home after 5 years of Alchemy courses, to find your past, life changing events, may have more to do with your future than you ever imagined. Yesterday's memories aren't always crystal clear, and moving forward mat be more difficult than you ever imagined.
The Hidden Object Scenes are pretty creative, in most games, I find myself mindlessly clicking objects without giving much thought to the puzzle because the items are so obvious, that you know what to click without even looking at the list, or you know exactly what object to pick up and use to combine an interaction. I loved the HOS in this game that requires you to find an item, or interact with an item that matches the object related to a riddle. There were a few items that actually stumped me for a few minutes, and I enjoyed the challenge.
The Mini Games are decent but tend to be easily solved. Personally, I'd rather solve an easy puzzle that's fun, any day rather than play a difficult and frustrating game. Below are brief descriptions of some of the games you'll encounter during the demo:
1) Rotate the clock disks in order to set each gem to the same color.
2) Each time you transmute a new Alchemy recipe, you will solve a puzzle that becomes increasingly more difficult to solve. You must rotate gems on three interconnected circles until the colored gems replicate the pattern shown.
3) Press the tiles with fingerprints in the same order as demonstrated.
4) Drag pillows into position so that they all fit, pillows can be rotated.
5) Decipher the note by finding the proper combination of goggle lenses.
Get those nearly expired coupon ready, because you finally get to use them on a decent Hidden Object Puzzle Adventure, if you don't have a coupon, you're still going to want this game. It's a good game at a really good price, enjoy! Show less

Its got a little spooky edge, a little mystery and a huge fun factor. Bottom line is I'm a key contributor to Big Fish reviews because I play and review a LOT of games. Its hard to excite me with HOGs because so many are just cut and paste of other games but this one was just plain fun.
Enjoy yourself and play the demo, why not? This one is worth the buy. Show less

Every once in a blue moon, BFG gifts us with a wonderful SE game on a Monday when we can take full advantage of those game club member free codes that we acquire. This doesn’t happen often and it makes a terrific game like Lost Grimoires Stolen Kingdom seem like a gift.
Get your alchemy kit ready to create some potions and solve a mystery in the process. As a child your father left the family and then your mother passed away so you were left without a family. A master alchemist stepped in and raised you and taught you as you grew. After going off to the Alchemy University you return home to tumultuous events that leave you shaken. Now is the time to pull yourself together and use the tools you learned while you were away.
I happen to love this developer and games. Now with Lost Grimoires Stolen Kingdom they return with a wonderful game where we can have an entertaining time mixing potions and solving mysteries. The graphics are gorgeous and the storyline, although nothing new, is well-told.
The HOPS are creative and I did find some items difficult to find particularly in the first scene that is devoted to finding objects by solving riddles. I must admit that I didn’t get some of them and had to use the dreaded hint button to finish the scene.
The puzzles are not difficult but I am not one of those gamers who really cares for mind-numbing puzzles but do like some challenge along the way. As with most games, I am sure the puzzles will be a bit more difficult later in the game.
Thank you BFG for a fun SE game that is a step above those we normally see on a Monday or Tuesday. Now I am going back to making potions that will get me through the rest of the game. As always, please try the demo to see if this is a game you will enjoy. Show less

Wonderful story. Refreshing. Great storyline. Nice characters and beautiful graphic scenes. Loved those golums, the cat and the flying machine.
Nice to have a game that I had to use my skills at finding and figuring out what to to with the herbs, oils and fibers to mix the right potion to move to the next quest.
Really liked this game. Glad it had a positive ending.
Give it a try.

How exciting that Artifex Mundi partnered up with World-Loom once again for a brand-new fantasy adventure. In Lost Grimoires: Stolen Kingdom, you play a young alchemist who returns home after years practicing magic at the university. But things are not the same back home when you find a mysterious masked man inside your own home and childhood memories about your missing parents come rushing back to you. Will you reach your full potential as an alchemist? From the synopsis above, it is clear that the storyline in Lost Grimoires: Stolen Kingdom is not very unique. Luckily, the fast-paced nature of the game as well as some interesting minor story details are there to keep me engaged. Moreover, the game also includes an Alchemy Kit for you to interact with (which I loved). This is the type of extra feature that enhances the value of the game by cleverly integrating itself into the plot, as opposed to those that feel like useless gimmicks. The Alchemy Kit is essentially what kept me excited about in Lost Grimoires: Stolen Kingdom. Firstly, the gameplay, especially the adventure part, is basic and easy. Inventory items collected are used almost immediately and HOPA veteran contributors like me can easily predict the next moves of the game. In addition, the puzzles less challenge and creativity for seasoned players. The hidden object scenes are slightly more entertaining; they are not groundbreaking by any means, but at least they require some brainpower and I appreciate this aspect. Lost Grimoires: Stolen Kingdom delivers solid graphics nonetheless. I enjoyed the variety of colors and shades in each scene and details of the artwork were quite impressive. It would have been perfect if the developer had managed to eliminate the fuzziness from the graphics and make the animations less static. As a standard edition game, Lost Grimoires: Stolen Kingdom actually lives up to its value. This adventure took just a little less than four hours to complete the game on casual mode, without skipping any puzzles. I know that everyone has skipped puzzles in HOPA's especially when they are SUPER DIFFICULT. That wasn't the case for this wonderful release. I think players of every level can enjoy this SE as much as I did. Happy Gaming friends!!! Show less

The challenges for this were presented in an interesting way where placement of objects you find makes more sense than they often do in these types of games.
The character designs and fantasy elements are nicely woven together, the scale of the story is a bit smaller in that it only tackles a village with a castle, but it works with the story line.
The music is non-intrusive but nothing particularly memorable.
My only gripe is that the ending reveal is not necessary, I'm a bit tired of having to sympathize with villains. Show less

OVERVIEW: Welcome to Magic Monday with a 5-star SE game which will put you under its spell. A kingdom is in turmoil and anarchy caused by a traitorous alchemist. You play an orphaned budding alchemist yourself who has been raised by this alchemist. However, now you are confused and not certain who to trust as you are torn between a man who raised you and a man who claims to be your long-lost father. With your book of spells and potions in hand, you are off to save the kingdom!
This is a decent SE HOP game. It is a good game to purchase with that free coupon you may possess as a BFG game member. The graphics are colorful and cartoon-like. It is an excellent game for all levels of players and those who like fantasy games. For the most part, the HOP scenes and puzzles are well-designed and thematic. It is a decent game, as good as any CE game, except it lacks the extras of a CE game. It does not have a strategy guide, collectibles, nor a bonus chapter.
I AM GOING TO PUT A SPELL ON YOU! As a budding alchemist, you receive a book of potions. In this game, you spend a great deal of time looking for items and interacting with them to prepare potions. Once you locate the items, you play a marble puzzle in which you rotate ten (10) marbles in two circles until they match a pattern given to you. The demo has three of these puzzles and they are all extremely easy.
HOP SCENES: In the demo there three and they are creatively designed. There is a standard list of items to locate which involves opening and closing drawers. There is a scene with cryptic clues which I thought was the best scene in the demo. The final scene is a creative scene involving searching and replacing items back within the scene, interacting with them as well.
PUZZLES: There are more puzzles than HOP scenes. There are a variety of puzzles. There are two which I felt were somewhat creative. There is a tangram puzzle which involves placing pillows into position so that no gaps remain between pillows. I found this to be an unusual use of a tangram puzzle format. The other puzzle I enjoyed is a gear puzzle at the end of the demo in which you must rotate three gears so that a set of three keys match up with openings within the gears for the keys. This was a little challenging because moving one gear, affects the others. It took me a little while to get those gears aligned with the keys.
VIKING CAT: Personally, I want the Viking cat. Yes, this game has a cat with curled goat horns on its head. If you poke him he growls and hisses at you. My type of feline – one with a “cattitude.” However, not even this cat, will entice me to play this game. I found the pace slow. However, if you want to see more golems, like creating potions with your own Wizard ‘R Us Spell and Potion kit, or like fantasy tales, you may like this game
