i loved the graphics, especially since they are hand drawn, and not CG (Iin reply to someone who commented here. MY MAIN REASON for playing BF games is their artwork, the second reason is the storyline)
The puzzles are great fun and challenging enough.

The story line was great. It was interesting and original: a sculptor who makes stone statues to replace lost loved ones. The statues come to life and become the loved ones that were gone.
It was an immediate buy for me.

Tristan is a Master Stone Carver whose talent as a sculptor has earned him respect throughout the country. Tristan breathes life into each and every statue, quite literally, because his statues are exact replicas of the dearly departed. Somehow, he has found a way to return his clients loved one's back into the loving arms of their families, in the form of walking, talking statues! There's just one flaw with this scenario, the statues don't feel all warm and fuzzy inside, and their loved ones are having a difficult time loving something that's not all warm and fuzzy on the outside. This has led the statues to form a coup d'etat against their creator. Could this mean the statues have a brain? Do they have a soul? Perhaps all they need is a heart.
None of the Royal Detective games have been as epic as the first game in this series, but this edition does have a good storyline. Another comparison I will make with the original Lord of Statues is that the graphics have gone downhill ever since, especially when compared with the last three games. I think somebody decided to switch from computer generated graphics to hand drawn graphics, they have done a beautiful job, but I prefer crisp computer generated graphics. You'll have to use a lot of imagination here, just in the demo alone, I witnessed stone statues running, I glued a stone wing onto a parrot so a stone parrot could flap its stone wings, I pulled nails out of boards that were nailed into a stone fence, and I was chased by a stone doberman. After the demo, I did find that the storyline kind of dragged, and didn't have that sense of urgency that was felt in the demo when the statues had not yet made their move, but it was still interesting enough to continue playing. In the Collector's Edition version there are 28 Morphing Objects, and 12 Morphing Talisman's to collect as well as the usual Achievements to earn.
The Hidden Object Scenes are varied, and have done an amazing job of making them somewhat challenging. There are Keywords to find in sentences, Interactive List finds and Silhouetted Shape finds as well.
The Mini Games are very doable, somewhat on the easy side, but again, I didn't find any of the games to be boring. Below are brief descriptions of some of the games you'll encounter during the demo:
1) Swap and rotate square tiles to recreate the image.
2) Open a clasp by matching colors, by clicking two tokens at a time.
3) Restore the picture by selecting one of the 4 hands, then selecting one of the arrows to rotate pieces of the disc, rotating one, may affect others.
4) Swap drawer labels so that they match the combined images of each column and row image.
5) Press musical notes in the correct order by trial and error.
6) Complete the pattern shown by pressing piano keys to toggle the squares off an on.
7) Move amulets along tracks to their matching slots.
8) Select the gold rays in the correct order until all rays have filled the slots.
The Collector's Edition has 5 Music Soundtracks, 20 Achievements to earn, 13 replayable Mini Games, 13 replayable Hidden Object Scenes, 3 Screensavers available, 14 Wallpapers, 16 Concept Art pictures, 12 Morphing Talisman's to collect, 28 Morphing Objects to find, a built in Strategy Guide, and a Bonus Chapter, enjoy! I do agree with some of the reviews. The intro cut scene is not very good compared to other games, but the story improves as you progress.
The artwork for the people are not realistic and cartoonish as some have noted, but the scenes are excellent. Voiceovers employ a few people for a whole range of characters, and they don't always match the appearance of the character and they do talk s-l-o-w.

The puzzles and HOPs are standard variety, mostly easy, but actions to take are mostly logical and fun to play on expert mode.
It's not a very long game, but I found it enjoyable enough.
I recommend a demo to try for yourself.

I enjoyed this game a lot, and some of the mini games were quite difficult. I very much enjoyed the last mini game in particular. It took me about an hour to finish it. I was hoping there'd be a section where you can choose to play any/all the mini games without having to go through the entire game again, but sadly not.

Royal Detective have some pretty good games so I was anxious to try this one. Was somewhat disappointed. It's basically about a man who turns a towns loved ones into a stone replica of what they used to be...they are either good(green eyes) or bad(red eyes) stone replicas. These bad ones are the ones that kidnap the maker of them. Confusing maybe, but not so. It was a good storyline but toooooo ...Show more

The in-play games where somewhat challenging but good to keep your attention. It was good but not great and I know they can do better. Besides it being to short of a game I still would recommend it. I don't do play-by-play description; others have the patience and talent for it, so I leave that to them.
Why any game developer is still offering hand-drawn graphics is hard to understand in this age of CG rendering. Having said that, the graphics in this game, while a little cartoon-like and decidedly soft around the edges, do not much detract from the game play.

The speech lip-sync is pretty good, but the characters speak so slowly —excuse me while I yawn— I almost fell asleep listening to them.
I'm not sure what era this game is supposed to be set in, but some of the artifacts, tools, and so on, are so modern that they sure don't belong here.
Okay, listen, there are walking, talking stone statues here. I know, I know, we've seen them in other games.
There's a stone parrot here, and guess what? If you glue it's broken wing back on —after finding ingredients and making the glue, of course— why, that little critter will take off and fly!
This is a simple game to play. So simple, in fact —excuse me again while I yawn— the puzzles and HO sequences equally so, that in offering any semblance of a challenge it completely flops.
It's a sort of cute time-passer so, if you're into that type of game, it might appeal to you.
My recommendation to buy comes with the usual caveat of play the demo and decide for yourself. Show less

Usually Elephant games are pretty good. I have purchased a few and enjoyed them but I think with this one the developers children snuck into the game room and wrote this game. This is entirely childish.

The story doesn't make any sense at all. The sculpture will make a statue of your loved one, have it come to life but can't control it's actions so it may adore you or kill you. Oh joy, just what I need.
The HO's and puzzles are a joke and have nothing to do with the game other than to find something to open something to find something else and so on and so on. I hate this type of game play. I want the puzzles to have meaning and add to the story, not detract.
I can't recommend this game at all but, as another reviewer said, at least try the demo. Show less

Good stuff: Lots of orange and yellow and red scenes and all the usual game elements.
Bad stuff: I know I'm singing to the choir here but along with the usual Logic Breaks – SPOILER ALERT - Tristan is locked behind a door that requires multiple steps in two locations to open and he presumably put himself there. How did he hide all the lock pieces and puzzle bits before he closed the door? And when Olivia arrives to greet her missing hubby, why is she holding a knife and rushing to attack a STONE statue? - Or is she after the husband she was so anxious to find?
I am flummoxed by the lapses in judgment and the required actions in this game.
Most especially, why did replacing people with statues seem like a good idea?
I can't recommend what I won't purchase, but I can urge you to try this demo for yourself. Please, BEFORE you decide to buy the game.
