the best part is that i was never bored and i was sad when it was completed.
i highly recommend hidden fears to anyone who enjoys a challenge with a very spooky atmosphere. Show less

Took me a long time to complete it. A standard edition doesn't mean it's short.
Inventory reminds me of Twilight Phenomena: https://www.bigfishgames.com/games/7388/twilight-phenomena-the-lodgers-of-house-13-ce/?mac
There are fragmented object scenes, but most inventory are keys used to unlock another place... meaning you don't have multiple items in your inventory.
The mapped layout is incredible.
There is also some arcade action in battling the ghosts.
It's not a game for those who like "relaxed modes", but it is a thriller.
WARNING: This Big Fish user reported the game in order for Big Fish to announce warnings on it.
In this Big Fish user's mind: adventure contains profanity (which is spoken dialogue), blood to the level of "light gore". disturbing themes with images that go along with them, unethical behavior, if acted on in real life.

Gripping spooky and fun! I found it to be both captivating and nostalgic. I enjoyed the added horror element it was like I was immersed in a game meant for Edgar Allen Poe! Good job... I hope there will be a sequel!

The hidden objects were varied. Kept me me interested all the way through. Mini games were numerous and also varied. Not much we haven't seen before, but they were pretty decent. I actually had the patience to play most of them. I did have some difficulty understanding some of them, but that's why they have the skip button. There are several levels of play and you can chose which you like. I picked custom so I could set the skip and hints at a faster rate. The interactive map was helpful. It showed areas where there were things to do and would transport me wherever I wanted to go.
The story was interesting. It had some twists and turns that caught me by surprise, but it was a very decent story. Love is fickle and this showed it.
I don't know if the game was shorter than most or it was just so interesting that time flew. I don't really know how long it took to play, but it seemed like it was over before I expected it to be.
Give the demo a shot. I think you'll like this as much as I did.

This is one of the strangest games I've ever played, and quite frankly, I'm not sure how I feel about it!?! The plot reminds me of the Saw movies, because the main character is asked to do things that are potentially harmful, if he wants to save his wife. It's not really as gruesome, but there are some references of violence.
Confused? Me too! The graphics are strange and annoying with a constant flickering feature that's supposed to represent surveillance video footage, and that's without the optional "film grain" feature. The colors are all very basic, with hues of grayish green, but I'm okay with that because it helps set the atmosphere. The characters voices are atrocious, and the script is poorly translated. The game mechanics are slow and clunky, items often require you to click on a specific area. The hint system is basic and fairly worthless, the black bar tips are vague, and the map is as basic as they come. (it does however allow you to quickly jump to another area) The tutorial needs a tutorial to explain the tutorial! The Mini Games have the worse instructions I have ever seen.......and yet......
There's a certain appeal to this game. The lack of basics we've grown accustomed to, gives me the desire to continue. I'm not sure if this game is designed this way on purpose, to add more challenge, or if it's just another low budget introduction game, a one and done kind of game, created by a couple of guys one weekend. Just like a B rated movie you can't stop watching because you rationalize that it surely gets better, my mind keeps telling me to stick with it, surely it gets better.
The story begins with newlyweds, Faith and Tony, receiving an invitation to spend their honeymoon at the Creek Falls Mountain Resort. The invitation paints a picture of a beautiful, luxury hotel, and apparently they had made no other honeymoon plans, nor did they bother to do some research on Creek Falls, before packing their bags and heading for destination unknown! You guessed it, the actual resort looks nothing like the picture on the invitation, surprise! Things go from bad to worse, and Tony is faced with the reality that he must make life or death decisions, to rescue his wife from the former residents of Creek Falls. Let the games begin!
Bottom line is, this is a non-linear game with a very interesting story line. There is no hand holding, it took me a while to realize I had to exit the FROG to search for a sharp object and then return! The flashlight feature drove me nuts, and I nearly lost my mind trying to figure out the first Mini Game, because the instructions were so bad. (but I did eventually solve it!) This is the kind of game most will either love or despise. For me personally, I'm on the fence, I'm not sure I can put up with the flickering graphics, and horrible acting. On the other hand, there's something about the story line that urges me to return to Creek Falls to face my Hidden Fears! Show less

Next: When battling a ghost, you are asked if you want to quit the battle early. When you say "yes," it doesn't work. Also the skip doesn't work. It might be a fun game if you are patient. You also have to leave a hidden object scene to obtain an object for it, which I didn't like. I may get it using a free code. I'll check the recommend game, but only, again, if you are patient. SUMMARY…Based on 34 minutes of the demo, this game has some excellent puzzles and challenging FROGs, but the frequent, long cutscenes and horrendous voice acting make immersion difficult.
WHAT WAS GOOD…The puzzles. The few I played were relatively challenging, not solely because the instructions were lacking, but also because they were well-designed. Once I was actually able to perceive what the goal was, it took some effort to achieve it.
The FROG scenes. Most of the fragments were well-blended into the scene, making them difficult to spot. I’ve always liked FROGs; they make a bit more sense than a list of unrelated objects, IMO. Note that you can leave FROG scenes to acquire items you need within the scene (which will show up in the box between the fragments).
WHAT WAS “MEH”…The production. Not awful, not great, just “meh.” I disliked the flickering meant to represent a poor video recording. I did like the ambient sounds; they accented the creepiness.
The gimmicks. Apparently one wasn’t enough; I got two: a flashlight with which to “battle” ghosts and a radio, function unknown, but alleged to somehow interact with the spirits.
The game mechanics. A bit finicky, often requiring multiple clicks to get it right.
The storyline. Sort of a version of Saw, with the villains requiring the hero to perform dangerous tasks to save his wife. But I would have liked a bit more explanation about why this particular couple was chosen. Maybe that comes later in the game.
WHAT WAS BAD…Endless cutscenes with a delay between the different characters speaking were seriously frustrating! There’s no “continue” icon, so you either have to skip them and miss essential storyline elements, or suffer through them.
The voiceovers were clearly done by self-conscious amateurs; the affect was unrealistic and the melodrama level was high.
CONCLUSION…I dislike being overly critical toward new devs because I think this industry badly needs new blood. Given the design of the puzzles and the well-done FROG scenes, I think this dev has a lot of potential, so I tried to be constructively critical. I am curious about the storyline, so I may pick this up with PCC. And I recommend trying the demo. Show less

Whenever a new developer's game appears I approach it with both anticipation and also a sense of dread since at first glance the player knows nothing of what is to come.
With its opening cut scene Rosen Studio starts with dread. We are given nothing more than a story board view of a couple being invited to a resort for their honeymoon. Adding to the dread is that as the characters ( Tony & Faith ) converse it takes much longer than necessary to get to the next cut scene. Come on Rosen Studio, we all can read fast enough so don't bog down the game at the get go.
Upon arrival at the resort Faith is immediately abducted by Eric and Helen and they warn Tony that Faith will die unless Tony can save her. On the originality scale Hidden Fears earns a fat ZERO. I also did not like that Tony is so nonchalant on finding his bride being in mortal danger.
We then meet the spectral Dr. Schtolze who reminds Tony that he also faces death unless the not so good doctor can be beaten in a game of cards.
The initial and only HO segment I ran into is of the fractured object variety. This was good since the parts are nicely hidden and a venture to another room in the resort is needed to find a knife to open a suitcase where the last 2 pieces of a fractured door knob are situated.
We then obtain a special flashlight that lets us see ghostly apparitions. The player is told to use said flashlight in the lobby. I did so but unless I did something wrong, nothing resulted. At this point frustration really set in and I left the demo.
Might this have been a sound game? Perhaps. Yet lots of the game play for me was too clunky. Combine this with the overly clichéd story and the result is a certain pass for me.
I am of the opinion that Rosen Studio game is either a really older game taken out of mothballs or a new game from a developer who lacks enough basic knowledge to produce a compelling game. SKIP THIS ONE
