I really enjoy this "sleeper series" and this installment was just as wonderful as the previous stories. Enjoy playing the role of Pamela who's journey begins by traveling to the land of Aberloch to attend her niece's eleventh birthday party. After a brief encounter with Mrs. Stewart (Nora's Nanny) and Walter the grounds keeper (while celebrating your niece's birthday) you witness Nora being captured by a vengeful banshee, and you will need to unlock the secrets of the island of McConnell to save her. According to the fable, something terrible happened in the seaside town of Aberloch eleven years ago and the towns resident's have been haunted by something lurking in the dark sea water ever since. It seems more than a coincident that the fables timeline coincides with your niece's age and now you must travel through the paths of horrific creatures to find your niece and solve the secret of the banshee before it's too late! The story that encompasses this latest edition to the trilogy isn't revolutionary but it does contain lots of surprises and twists which leaves you curious as to how this fable originated and how it ends. When the demo ended, I was determined to discover the truth about the fable and it's unique and fascinating plot. Fans who are familiar with this series are in store for an unpredictable adventure that may actually offer a conclusion to this engaging three part fantasy
HOPA series by Sunward Games, the creative minds behind the popular "The Secret Order" series. If you've played the other games of the series you already know that the main game takes around 4 or 5 hours to complete and the Collector's edition bonus chapter offers another hour of gameplay. Whether you choose the SE or the CE version, I recommend this for casual gamer's of every level. Cheers!

I heartily recommend this game, the Standard Edition.
If you have a high-resolution computer, you will be blown away by the quality, depth and detail of the graphics. They've used a great blend, incorporating real items into the scenes. I know a lot of games say they're HD, but even if they are, you can only get as much detail as was put in, in the first place. And this one had a lot!
Don't let the picture of the giant rat from the CE game-picture put you off! It did me, until I read some of the positive reviews and tried it out. I'd also put it down to being a kids' game because of that rat! Only the bonus game of the Collector's Edition version of this game seems to be more formulated for for kids... that's where the rat must be, because I never saw it in the main game!
What you'll get here is stunningly detailed, atmospheric and sophisticated. The make-up of the scenes makes me believe they actually went there and took photos, because the structure of the scenes are so detailed, with natural looking perspectives. In parts it was like a homage to the original "House of 1000 doors: Family Secrets." Just the feel of it, and some little reminders here and there.
I was constantly waiting to be disappointed, except it never happened! Just scene after scene of enjoyment. ¾ of the way through I opened a door to discover...something that I thought was the turning point of fun for me. I was very disappointed. But I went back to it after a break and realized that, that part was not of any significance or duration and I continued to enjoy the last quarter in utter joy!
All the usual number of HOPS and puzzles. Interaction with characters is minimal, a little more at the beginning to set the story, and then it peters off, to you exploring great scenes! Show less

This fast moving hidden object adventure had a nice flow to it. Objectives were very clear. The story line was compelling and intriguing. It didn't take long for the horror to begin.
The soundtrack was amazing; it was laid back during some scenes with a lot of surprise screaming and haunting sounds for other scenes. Startling is an understatement.
This game is jam packed with fun mini-games and puzzles. The hidden object scenes are interactive list type, silhouette type, and narrative type, many with very well hidden objects.
There is so much to do in this game we looked everywhere and checked everything to make sure nothing was missed.
This is nightmare material and we loved every second of it.
A lot of bang for the buck in this one.

This is a long SE game with a lot going on. I really liked the variety of hidden object games from silhouettes to move one item to find another. The mini games were pretty standard, i.e. place an object in its appropriate place by color. My only complaint is that there was a lot of back and forth -- hence the 4 rating.
I recommend this game!

Another cursed island, another banshee, another plot involving a scorned, falsely accused maid? More symbols and runes than one can count, another stupid gadget Amulet that requires finding crystals for each and every ritual, which you just happen to come across all over the island? (with repetitive mini-game with even more symbols and runes) Do any of these developers even try to come up with something different? Can they at least consort with each other to make sure the same storyline is repeated within 2 days of each other? I'm sorry for being a negative Nelly, a Debbie Downer, a Melancholy Molly, a Horrible Harriet, a Bitter Betty, a Pouty Penny, a Moaning Myrtle...or a Screaming Banshee, but don't we deserve something different? Something fresh and exciting, the kind of game that has you glued to the chair? It's not because I'm bored with playing these games in general. If that were true, then why do I still enjoy dusting off some of my older games that I've played several times over the years?
Unfortunately, we have an Amulet Gadget to say "boo" and scare away the Cursed Objects. (and somebody has a vivid imagination when it comes to these cursed objects) In the Collector's Edition version, there are Morphing Objects that aren't difficult to spot, but certainly more hidden than the collectible Pumpkin/Gourds are. These cursed Jack-O-Lanterns are large and gaudy and stick out like a sore thumb! In the collectibles section, you can read the descriptions of each of the pumpkins.
The Hidden Object Scenes are fairly basic and have no alternate puzzles available. There are Interactive List finds, Multiple Item finds and Progressive Interactive HO's available.
The Mini Games are so simplistic that their directions usually consist of one sentence. They aren't very creative, and the Amulet mini-games of finding rune symbols is annoying. Below are brief descriptions of some of the games you'll encounter during the demo:
1) Decorate the cake according to the recipe.
2) Select the rune that isn't displayed on the left.
3) Use cipher to translate and select correct symbols to type.
4) Repeat the sequence of symbols.
5) Find the dice in a game of "cups"
6) Choose correct items pertaining to the story on the gate.
7) Move the Horse in an L shape to cover entire chess board.
8) Use rotation arrows to swap triangle-shaped puzzle pieces.
9) Set the compass coordinates on the map.
The Collector's Edition version has 17 Wallpapers, 12 Concept Art pictures, 12 Music Soundtracks, replayable Movie Videos, 10 re-playable Hidden Object Scenes, 29 re-playable Mini Games, 10 Skill-based and 21 Story-based Achievements to earn, 10 Morphing Objects, 12 Collectible Pumpkin/Gourds (with descriptions) 3 Main Chapters + Bonus Chapter and a built-in Strategy Guide.

Thank goodness for the map because there was a lot of back and forth. Fortunately, if there is nothing marked as active you cannot go back to an earlier area, so check out the items you have, as you might need to put something together rather than go somewhere.

Pretty decent creep factor and variety of HO's and puzzles but nothing too hard. It gets an average rating because there are just so many of this type of game - your relative (a niece here) is taken and you must rescue from some monster. Does that sound familiar? Okay if you like this type of game.

When ever I play a game with repetitious click-click-click-click- seemingly forever I loose much of the enjoyment I found up to that point.
All I can say is if you like point and click-click-click-click- you may really enjoy this one, I did not !!!
I;m giving this one a generous 2 & 1/2** * out of ***** 5 on my personal enjoy-ability scale,
I don't recommend this game.

What do you get when mixing faulty history, banshees, silly overused game elements, badly drawn characters, and the now ancient device of an opening crash?
This game.
From the moment after the buggy crash, as the "lady" lead character jumps out and fixes the wheel while the driver watches, you will know you are traveling a slippery slope. And it goes downhill all the way!
You play as the aunt of little Pamela and you are coming to celebrate her birthday. You arrive after the crash repairs and address her nanny as"Ms." You then proceed to color the frosting already on a cake with berries. Naturally this involves multiple puzzles to retrieve everyday items locked up like the crown jewels. Eventually you get to the mystery as your niece is taken at night by a Banshee to the nearby McConnell Island. You will spend the rest of the game trying to save her.
Good Luck!
This game is nigh indescribable. Almost every action is questionable, the story details are scrambled, characters are one dimensional, and the fear factor is nonexistent.
I beg of you: Try the Demo.
Quit in disgust.
Try any other game - even a bad one will look good in comparison!

Maybe if you're fairly new to the pond and haven't played as many HOPA games over the years as we have, you'll find this one interesting and fun to play, but as always, please try before you buy.
