I was a bit sceptical of this at first as it's a bit cartoonish, but it's a great game! it's nice to have a fresh look on a game, no ghosts and things that jump out at you! and the voices try to sound british but I personally think it's american actors trying to put british accents on lol as they sound a bit 'posh' and not every british person sounds posh. I certainly don't haha! This is a fun ...Show more

A murder mystery, what could be better? For me, nothing!

I like the graphics, the almost buy not quite cartoon quality to them. The sounds are well done. (I did think the widower could sound like his wife's death was a little more tragic, to match his words!). I love the cursor being a pen nib.

Since it's not a CE we don't have the extras, which is fine. I hate buying SEs since I know that I am missing things! I bought this game, and to take advantage of the sale had to accept buying an SE of a CE on my list (one with the fewest collectibles).

HOS: nicely varied. Find a flashlight and batteries, then set the battery polarity. Use that flashlight to find clues on a body. See, this is what makes a game "good." Relating the HOS to the story, integrating the items, not just tossing in a HOS because it's "time" for one. The list was very interactive, included a puzzle.
PUZZLES: when we fine instructions and clues, the papers go in our journal, not our inventory. So, when we need them we must either remember, open and remind ourselves, or open and write them down. Great! I HATE the inventory instructions, it makes things too easy. Plus, really, in real life we'd write things down and have to refer to them.

*set clock
*move blocks so tile can get past them (one of my favorites, I have this sort of game on my phone)

Another surprise Monday game! Some of my all-time favorites have been Monday games. Again, I want to mention how much I like the new Big Fish logo. It's fresh and current. Show less

I really like this game. This is a new Dev that I think will go far.
Yes, the graphics could be better but I absolutely love the story line and the old fashion solving of a murder. Everything ties into the story line. No junk piles (hoorah). The journal is great as are the clues they give you. The HOs and mini games also tie into the story. Old Fashion can be good. Just relax and solve a good ...Show more

Well fishies, this really is a terrific game. I wasn't expecting too much, but I thoroughly enjoyed it. You play Ellen Grace and you have to find out what happened to your sister Amanda. There is:

* Voiceovers (with dialogue);
* Easy, Normal, Expert and Custom modes of play;
* Diary;
* Interactive map.

Well fishies, this really is a terrific game. I wasn't expecting too much, but I thoroughly enjoyed it. You play Ellen Grace and you have to find out what happened to your sister Amanda. There is:

* Voiceovers (with dialogue);
* Easy, Normal, Expert and Custom modes of play;
* Diary;
* Interactive map.

The graphics are very good. They characters kind of look cartoony but each scene is very well defined and items are clear to see and grab. There are plenty of areas to explore within the mansion, outside surrounding grounds and in town.

Sound is good and the music is mainly fast orchestral. Ellen and Amanda's voices are supposed to be British, but you can forgive the devs for at least trying.

The hidden object games are straightforward and silhouette. These are easy to do and items you need are clear to see. Each one only takes a couple of minutes.

I've seen all the mini-games before but I enjoyed doing them again. They are all very easy to do and are great for beginners who want to gain experience.

I played on Custom and turned everything off, so no skip or hint. However, I did find that I couldn't use the interactive map at all throughout the game, so I had to remember where tasks were to do. That's no problem for me, but you may want to play a different mode if you want to use this.

Keep an eye out in your diary as there are things in there to help you progress through the game.

All up the game took me about 5 hours to play and I really enjoyed it. There is a sense of urgency to find out what happened to your sister - TRUST NO-ONE.

Overall a terrific game and definitely worth checking out. This is a new developer and I look forward to many more stories to come. Well done devs.

I really was in the mood for a decent brain teaser. Dead Link: Pages Torn did not disappoint in this regard, even if it’s a bit on the short side. The game’s been developed and published by Phime studio LLC and they've created a decent game worth purchasing or using a free coupon. These are also the developers who brought you Showing Tonight: Mind hunters Incident, their debut as far as adventure games are concerned.

I always find it funny how every single HOG in my collection has to contain supernatural or esoteric themes. Too many of the games I play seem to fall into this chasm of stereotypes. But hey, it’s not zombies at least. Originality aside, you get a story that focuses on a novelist’s efforts to find her missing sister while also looking for motivation to keep on writing. It starts quite promising but the plotline never shakes off the feeling of déjà vu. Dead Link: Pages Torn is quite predictable unfortunately and nearly all the characters which shall interact with Ellen Grace, our protagonist, seem to hide something or simply act strangely. The game’s action takes place in the English countryside in a fictional coastal village called Whitechurch. In reality there are a dozen Whitechurches in the UK, yet none of them are so close to the seaside. So don’t expect historical backgrounds or photorealistic locations.

The Grace Manor and nearby surroundings shall be available for exploration but you probably know by now that most HOGs involve static 2D imagery, perfectly fitting for the point and click subgenre of adventure games. Dead Link is no different and the search for Amanda shall force her sister to solve all manner of puzzles while running errands for equally shifty individuals. What starts as a conventional “whodunit tale”, quickly derails towards themes that neither use nor require much logic in the narrative thread. The characters’ monotone speech doesn’t help much either and no, they’re not under a trance, sadly. At least that would have explained their odd behavior. Considering that you can wrap up this story in under two hours if you skip any puzzles (I obviously didn’t), the narrative leaves much to be desired in terms of length and replay value IMHO.

There are several puzzles rendered in 3D which involve more interaction than their 2D counterparts since you’ll also have to rotate them, not just click here or there. A great touch indeed, don't you think? Nearly 30 locations to examine, both indoor and outdoor. So at least you can’t complain of being limited by the size of the crime scene/lingering mystery. Even the aforementioned static scenery is skillfully drawn, colorful and highly detailed as the situation demands it. You can’t have interactive hidden objects within poorly drawn backgrounds, now can you?

The gameplay section had to be the title’s saving grace, right? And rightfully so, since most HOGs compensate their dreary stories with some well-planned puzzles along those titular hidden object segments. Dead Link has a much needed diversity from this perspective. Anything from simple chromatic-based puzzles to classic card games and more challenging mysteries that involve quite a bit of backtracking in order to assemble a single item from several pieces scattered around Whitechurch and the Grace Manor. As boring as the dialogue may have been, I was properly entertained by mixing items, finding new clues and solving the main mystery at a steady pace. I had my doubts and I eventually found proof. Don’t expect me to spoil anything about the complexity of the puzzles or the game’s plot twists and conclusion. Suffice to say that Dead Link redeemed itself in my eyes by the time I had finished it. I would also like to add that more Standard Edition games like this one should be introduced into the pond equally to the Collector's Editions that we are offered weekly. This game really appeals to me. The music is good, excellent graphics, good story, easy puzzles. Not all actions to take are obvious.
I like that this is a contemporary setting and no gloomy mansion in Victorian setting. This game is a classic. Very satisfying end.

I did like the game but it was way to short to play. It only took me about 2 1/2 hours to play this threw. I can't believe how short it was unless I was missing something.

I love it when BF offers HOPA's from developers that aren't frequent flyers. This is the same dev that brought us Showing Tonight, which is a very unique game. Dead Link has a really good whodunit plot, the graphics are decent, but the characters voices sound a bit fake and over-the-top. I'm not going to critique this game to death because although there's nothing new or unique presented here, it is what it is, a really good adventure at a really good price point, that some will love and some will hate.

One feature I loved was how they incorporated the use of a Journal. I keep asking why this Journal feature isn't used more often like they used to be when these games weren't as easy. I'd much rather have to flip through pages of a journal to find clues to solve the mini-games and puzzles than to have a sheet of paper that magically appears to show me exactly how to input the information, isn't that more realistic? It would be even more awesome if the clues in my journal weren't used until later in the game, making me put on my thinking cap, where did I see that clue, which clue do I use here kinda thing.

The Hidden Object Scenes are fairly standard, the graphics could be a bit better, but some objects were tricky to find and they usually include a small puzzle to solve. There are only a couple of HOP's in the demo, one where you find a flashlight and then 12 hidden batteries, the other was a slightly Interactive List find.

The Mini-Games are decent but tend to be on the easy side of the spectrum. Below are brief descriptions of some of the games you'll encounter during the demo:

1-Use the flashlight to search for items to identify the body.
2-Press on the paintings in the correct sequence by trial & error.
3-Set the proper time on the clock according to the clue in the journal.
4-Click to enter the correct numbers on each locking tumbler.
5-Move wooden "blocks" to clear a path for the metal tile to exit.
6-Click on several tiles to change the image to the correct Rooster.
7-Spot the difference between the Owl photo and the sketch.
8-Slide the tokens to the correct natural backgrounds.

There are no bells or whistles in this game, it won't blow your socks off but it is a good game that's totally worthy of purchasing. I for one, wholeheartedly support this dev who has brought 2 decent HOPA games to the pond! Show less
