A high learning curve worth the effort

So I see that others had some difficulty with the mouse control. I admit it can be frustrating ---- very frustrating ---- at first, but I stuck with it and finally figured out how to work it.
And I'm so glad I did. Once I got past that, the game really showed a lot. There is a great deal of charm in this game that makes it really unique ---- all the missions are different ---- all the characters ...Show more

And I'm so glad I did. Once I got past that, the game really showed a lot. There is a great deal of charm in this game that makes it really unique ---- all the missions are different ---- all the characters have differing abilities ---- there are helmets for differing tasks and uses ---- and the list goes on.

There is a lot to this game ---- but use the trial period as a "tutorial" of sorts, and see if you can find the good time I am having with this game. Show less

IF YOU HAVE A GAME CONTROLLER IT'S AWESOME, OTHERWISE THE GAME MECHANICS DON'T WORK WELL

I can see where this game would be really fun if you were using a game controller (which is how the game is set up) or if playing on an iPad or touch screen, otherwise some of the features don't work well with a mouse. I can see where this game would be really fun if you were using a game controller (which is how the game is set up) or if playing on an iPad or touch screen, otherwise some of the features don't work well with a mouse. It's a cute, but frustrating game with a misleading synopsis, "see why over 3 million players are loving Squids Odyssey" ...you'd expect over 3 million players to love a game that's been around since 2014! I guess the rumors about BF becoming a clearinghouse site aren't just rumors because we have been offered some really old games lately, or games that have simply been re-vamped?

To play the game, you simply pull back on the Squid's tentacles, aim, and let go to shoot the squid. When the squid hits a Clam you receive Health Pearls that allow you to continue shooting, Helmets or Tiaria's that give the squids special powers, or other various goodies to help in battles. You can Stomp or Melee other creatures, and some of the characters can Dash. The game mechanics are designed to work with a game controller and it appears that they revamped this game at a later date to include the use of a Mouse controller because besides not working as well, at the end of each feature's directions, they have added a line explaining how to use the mouse as if it were an afterthought feature upgrade.

The problem I ran into was getting my Squid Scout from point A to point B against the water's current. To do this you'll have to shott him upstream and then click on his head to make him dash or the current will push him back to the starting point. This is probably an easy feat with a game controller or touch screen, it's not easy with a mouse! To make matters worse, you only get 2 Dash features so it gets painstakingly frustrating when you're forced to replay this scenario a bunch of times only to find out you'll probably run out of lives before completing the level tasks because it took you so many tries to get past the current

Each level has a hidden Secret Star that awards you with powers, such as the Shuriken Starfish that causes damage to 3 opponents, the Survival Starfish which allows all squids to survive at the end of the mission, or a Speed Star that is rewarded for finishing within the required number of turns. You'll receive bonus pearls for combo moves, most of which seems to be achieved by chance or luck as a ricochet effect.

This is a game that you're just going to have to try before you buy. As I said earlier, if you are using a game controller or touch screen, you may find this game to be right up your alley, but it's not a game I fell in love with because it was just too frustrating with the mouse alone. I was already to like this game when in level two I was unable to figure out how to use the dash button. Therefore no play game-o after level one. Very frustrating.

I don't recommend this game.

I was just about going to give up with this and give 1 star then Pennmom's review popped up explaining the mouse problem.

I can see the potential if I can only get through the second level but I fail dismally.

If you are someone who is quick then this may be ok with a mouse but it is way too tense for me.

I finally got the "dash" to work MOST of the time. But then, I needed to access my Inventory. I have pressed every key on my keyboard, left mouse, scroll wheel and right click... no inventory. In settings, it show all the keys for a controller, but nothing about inventory for the mouse. So, I guess I'm gonna have to take a pass on this one. Glad I got the Demo. Too bad, they didn't support mouse ...Show more
