I tried both demos and decided to buy the SE. I do like the story and the plot and the graphics are mostly amazing, but the CE version only has hidden scales (as in Scales of Justice), and some hand me down bonus gameplay. I like the circus theme, like Weird Tales, because it freaks me out. In fact, this game reminds me of WT because the graphics were mostly great and then, all of a sudden, poof, some intern drew something and threw it into the game. Visuals are awesome, gave it a four though because of the random badly done scenes, and the voiceovers were only okay for me. HOPs and minigames were pretty easy for me, but that is not a deal breaker. So definitely a buy, I love and own the two other Dead Reckonings in CE version. Show less

The successfully solved case began piling up which turned you into a perfect candidate to tackle what awaits at the Crescent Carnival. The vibrant carnival surrounding gives off an unsettling impression that there’s something covertly amiss about the murder, but it’s initially impossible to discern what. Armed with seasoned wits and experience, you’re to find your way through smoke and mirrors. Embark down the path of the twisted illusions and trickery and do not believe what your eyes can see. Someone poisoned the man on the hill near the Carnival (its all about evidence). When the victim died, the murderer moved his dead body down the hill to the front gate. There are no witnesses and not enough clues about murderer’s identity. Victim was one of the carnival season employees, but everyone at the carnival including manager Eduard Grimwell denies knowing him. You will have to dig deep to find murder weapon and uncover the motive of the crime. Maybe personnel of the Crescent Carnival are hiding something terrible? This edition has good visuals, voice acting, and yesteryear theme. You soon learn about your evidence kit and how to question the carnival suspects. Who is lying and who is telling the truth is repeated throughout the adventure. Did you know Dead Reckoning is a 1947 Columbia Pictures film noir starring Humphrey Bogart? Makes me wonder if the movie inspired this trilogy? Anyway I enjoyed the murder mystery, yet it isn't my favorite edition of the three installments. Show less

I totally loved the scenes in this one! They were so real to life in a game way, so gorgeous. I loved the circus layout in this too. It was created in such a way that I would just loved to have morphed into each scene myself.

One thing about these games that makes me add an immediate star all by itself on top of any others, is when real actors are used in cut scenes and such. That happened once in the game, so one star just for that.
I liked the music, very mysterious and true to form.
I loved the story line with me the detective trying to sort through the circus peeps in finding the truth behind the nasty things occurring here.
There were some HOS that were totally unique and some mini games that were very tough, I even had to skip a couple. Due to their unique qualities another star is granted.
This is a 5 star game and I wanted initially to get the collectors edition but it worked out that I couldn't, but I would deff recommend the collectors if you can get it! Show less

Everybody loves a circus carnival, with the exception of employee # 18 whose cold lifeless body has just been discovered! Looks like we have a new partner for this whodunit mystery, however he doesn't seem all that helpful because when he finds clues he always suggests that I do all the investigating whilst he stands guard over the crime scene, lol. Once again we are equipped with a simple but effective Forensics Kit to examine the victim's bodies, tongue depressors, tweezers, dusters etc. and then draw a conclusion based upon the evidence. All the evidence and deductions you make are stored on the Evidence Board, which can be accessed anytime. Several of the inventory items you find have plus signs indicating some type of interaction must be performed before the item can be used such as combining it with another inventory item or solving a quick puzzle. The Collector's Edition has Achievements to earn and 39 hidden Justice Scales to collect for an additional special achievement.
The Hidden Object Scenes are varied, some are progressive interactive finds that match the sketches, some are silhouetted shape finds and the standard interactive list finds. All are centered around carnival themed items and very entertaining, but you can also opt for the Bubble Shoot game instead. The Mini Games aren't really new, but enjoyable, such as turning three rings to align pathways from an animal token in the middle to the matching token on the outside, and this process is repeated until all 4 animal tokens have been completed one at a time.
The Collector's Edition has 9 Puzzles, 15 HOP's, 39 Hidden Justice Scales, 7 Movies, 8 Concept Art pictures, 8 Wallpapers, Souvenirs, 12 Achievements, 6 Music Soundtracks, Bubble Shooter games, a built in Strategy Guide and a Bonus Chapter, hurry, hurry, hurry, step right up and enjoy this deady carnival! I had a really good time playing this today. It was hot outside and what better way to pass the time than with a good game.
The graphics and sound were, as always, excellent. Colors were pleasant and the effects right on the mark. The music, which I normally turn down some, was so good that I changed my settings so I could hear it better. Voice overs were well done too.
This had so many different types of hidden objects, really too many to mention that it kept me interested all the way through. I did have a lot of difficulty with the mini games. Most I couldn't figure out what to do even after reading the instructions over several times, but I'm not a mini guy anyway. Having said that, I have to say they were way over my head and I was thankful I used the custom setting to get the hint and skip to fill quickly. If you like challenging puzzels you will like this game. There is an interactive map which transports and shows where there are things to do. If I have one negative thing to say about this game, it is, there was so much back and forth I couldn't figure out on my own where to go or what to do were it not for the map. It was extremely necessary for me. I don't quite understand the evidence folder at all. It was of no use unless you just wanted something to read about the charaters.
I won't go into the story, because Big Fish does a great job explaining it, but suffice it to say it was interesting. A bit hard to follow at times, but eventually I got caught up in it. At least it wasn't a fairy tale for a change.
Give the demo a shot. I don't think you will look at the next carnival you attend in the same light.
Person note: I don't know what the differnce is in the past couple of Eipix games, but they have slipped a bit in quality and content. That is not to say they are bad games, it just isn't the same as it use to be. I use to buy Eipix games without even playing the demo, but I've become a bit more careful..
Enjoy your trip to the carnival and just be ready for all the twists and turns offered by this game. Show less

I bought the CE as part of a 2-for-1 sale the end of July at about the same time I wrote a review of it. Today (Aug 21), I decided I had to play at least a little of the SE before I wrote my usual review about whether to buy the SE or the CE.

I bought the CE as part of a 2-for-1 sale the end of July at about the same time I wrote a review of it. Today (Aug 21), I decided I had to play at least a little of the SE before I wrote my usual review about whether to buy the SE or the CE.
Why did I decide I had to play the SE? Because I couldn't remember a darn thing about this game. I never went back to it after I bought it. As I said in my CE review, my main reaction was "Eh," even though game play was seamless. And, as I also said in my CE review, I'd rate it 3.5 if I could.
Basically, the forensics and questioning parts of the game are either boring, or confusing as to how to proceed, or both. I thought so the first time through, and I really thought so upon trying out the SE.
The art is ok, mini game instructions need improvement, and the music seems nice until it suddenly degenerates into weird atonality. I had to turn it off. Distracting.
But I do like the HOS (they had mini games inside them). Plus, what I call the procedural puzzles (puzzles you have to play to proceed through the game) are fun.
As to whether you should buy the CE or the SE, well, it has all the bells and whistles. Try it and see. Show less

Not the best, nor the worst, but enjoyable. Eipix has really good voiceovers, and the music was great, too. I just didn't think the game had the length I've come to expect from Eipix. It was all over way too soon. Some good puzzles, but mostly too easy. Would have given this 5 stars with a little more challenge and a little more length. Was hard to follow to me so used the hint button a lot.
Story line was good. Searching for many items made the game longer. I don't mind it but had to use the hint to find the use of these items more times than other game. I guess I don't think like the makers of this game.
