Hi guys and Mr. Jenkins! (My fave cat besides my own). This was a very pleasant surprise by my ultimate fave team. The team with the one and only Mr. Jenkins, meow! This game is absolutely awesome. Absolutely spooky with fantastic VO's and a gripping story. Talk about shadows going bump in the night, these shadows are bumping all over the place and they've decided to take your friend Ashley along with them. So not only do you have to try to save yourself, you have to go after your friend Ashley as well, poor missy. The one thing you do have is a lantern that Dr. Parson gave you to ward off the shadows. In order to use the lantern you have to do an untangle the lines mini game. The collectibles in the game are 25 silhouettes/shadows.
Story: You get a video from your friend Ashley stating that she needs your help. So you hop on a bus and as your going on down the road, she sends another stating that she will see you soon. While on the bus, a shadow appears out of nowhere and causes the driver to wreck as he swerves to miss it. You end up in the hospital with a major headaches and the nurse laying on the floor unconscious. You receive another message from saying she'll meet you in the courtyard. You wake up the nurse and she's abducted by the shadows. One word in your vocabulary comes to mind and that's RUN! That's when you meet Dr. Parson and he gives the lantern to your main character. You talked to Ashley, and she says get the ambulance going so we do. We crash through the gate and as you're waking up you see Ashley being abducted. So now off to save Ashley as well as yourself.
Graphics: Absolutely gorgeous. This team always had beautiful graphics. I never seen any of this blue and mauve. They look on my HD monitor like they are suppose to.
Music: Nice job. Really adds to the spookiness of the game. Actually in points of the game it gives me a creepiness feeling.
H0GS: So far I had use one item to get another item to work your way down to get the item you need for the game. I love these types of H0GS.
Mini games: One I played is that you have to use the arrows to put a block together. It sounds easy but you have to be careful not to link a block where it shouldn't be or it's a reset. This is the only one I played besides the untangle the strings for the lamp. Still early in the game. But I've always loved this teams mini games, so I am sure I will enjoy the rest.
Map: It has the legend on the left of the map to show what it means, and it's a jump map.
Just want to say Kudos to this team for an extremely well done game. I am truly enjoying every bit of it. Infinite stars. I highly recommend this game. (Sue W) Show less

The mini games are great & the instructions for the most part are clear, the one game so far that took a while to figure out was the one where you have to move the ballerinas to the same side & can not cross different colors. The instructions say only can cross threads of same color, when it should say can only cross threads of same color as outfit, for example the yellow outfit can only cross the yellow line & so on.
The story line makes more sense then the last few ones I played, the game play is great, easy to follow & figure out what is going on & why & what & where ya should go.
I am glad they now have achievements & collections (the last few I have played has had them) & the HOS are still find & use to get a item needed, which is good.
The one thing I have found with most HO games is that they never can keep a lighter, knife, scissors or tool when it is gonna be needed thruout the whole game.
I think I have played only a few games where they were able to keep these things to use thruout, it makes sense to be able to keep them thruout the game unless they break but these one time use items that will be needed again needs to change
Anyway, again this is one of the best DD games in the series & I hope more are added to the series & they keep getting better like this one Show less
I recommend this game!

After the last game in the Dark Dimensions series I had told myself that I was through with this series but then a new one comes my way and I at least had to give it a try. It does look like the series has been somewhat revamped with a new look and a new storyline. You haven’t seen your friend Ashley in quite a long time and now she needs your help. Ashley has done well for herself and is now a radio personality but with fame comes the threat of unwanted attention and Ashley fears she is being stalked. What can a friend do but rush off to help and that is exactly what has you entrenched in a new dark dimension.
The game offers four modes of gameplay: Casual, Advanced, Hard, and Custom If you select the Custom mode you can set your hint and puzzle skips to recharge anywhere from 1 to 100 seconds. You can also turn of the search click penalty and fiddle with other settings so you can play the way you like.
The graphics are updated and fairly sleek with the feel of computer generated graphics. The color palette still uses quite a bit of mauve and blue but overall they are not too bad. The voiceovers are good and the lip-syncing is much better than in some recent games.
Your tools include yet another gimmick, this time a lantern that is used to get rid of the dark shadows, and yes you do have to play a mini-game to get the thing working. You also have a journal that keeps track of game information. You will find the interactive transporter type map during the first HOP in the game.
The HOPs include a variety of styles and they are interactive with the objects being clear and well defined which made them easier to spot. The puzzles are not difficult but they are fun and some require a bit of thought but nothing too taxing. I particularly liked the first puzzle that is a sort of slider type where we combine pieces to make a complete item.
The CE version of the game includes collectibles to find and achievements to earn. The game is fairly light on extras and aside from the in game strategy guide and bonus game there is not much else. I would say that there is not much to recommend getting the CE versus the SE version of the game if you can wait. The problem with determining the extras is that unless you purchase the game you can’t see the complete scope of the extras; sort of like the old saying buying a pig in a poke. Since the full guide and the extras are not available, my guess is that there is not much extra content.
I have to admit that by the time the demo ended I was looking forward to purchasing the full game. Of course there was a sort of cliff-hanger finish so I knew I had to find out more. The gameplay was more fun than I expected so I guess I am not too jaded and can still enjoy the entertainment value of HOPA games. Yes I know, all of them are very similar and seem to follow a set pattern of find this and do that, then solve a puzzle for a bit of a break but I still love the genre and can generally find something I love in each new game that comes along. The plus for me with Dark Dimensions Shadow Pirouette is that it is much better than I thought it would be and that was a nice surprise. Even though I am a hopeless HOPA game fanatic and can always find something I like, as always, I recommend that you at least try the demo to see if this is a game you will enjoy. Show less

Dark Dimensions has always been one of my favorite series, mostly because of the genre and certainly because of the superior computer generated graphics DD is known to have. Until now. :( Why have the devs abandoned the crisp, well defined graphics that made this series great, for the inferior graphics presented in Shadow Pirouette? The overabundance of pink and purple hues, make this game seem more like a fairytale than a game that's supposed to be "dark". I was waiting for a poof of glitter and a magical unicorn to show up, so I could be whisked away to another pastel colored dimension, far far away from the Shadows who plague the tiny town of Everton! Dark Dimensions usually center their focus around the paranormal, somewhere between the living and those who have passed on but still have attitude. With this game however, we get a Magic Lantern that's powered by magic crystals. That would be okay if the Lantern belonged to the Lantern man and was "souler" powered. As I said before, all this would be okay if it wasn't Dark Dimensions, so I'm betting that if you're new to this series, you'll be perfectly fine with the graphics and the magical props.
The magical crystal powered lantern is used to ward off the Shadows that are slowly encroaching upon the entire town of Everton. Each time you use the lantern you will play a quick mini game of untangling the ropes, that get slightly more complicated each time, as more ropes are added and the pattern becomes a little tighter. Throughout the game, you will collect figurine silhouettes in groups of three, for 10 separate scenes. Once you collect a set of three silhouettes, you can watch a very short clip of a movie that eventually tells you the story about the evil entities. There's the usual features of plus sign interactive inventory items as well as 16 Achievements to earn as well.
The Hidden Object Scenes are mostly Interactive Listed Items, but there are some with puzzles as well as silhouetted shape finds in multiples such as a mug X 2. The Mini Games are way more entertaining than the Hidden Object Scenes, They are familiar games such as moving all the elements to their correct slot, or adjusting the power grid and switches to connect wires to fuses and even a super simple jigsaw puzzle where you move the main center piece towards the other pieces using directional arrows.
This Collector's Edition has 6 Wallpapers, 12 Concept Art pictures, 19 Developer's Diary photos, 16 Achievements, Figurine Silhouettes, 12 Mini Games, 12 Hidden Object Puzzles, 8 Bonus Puzzles, 6 Soundtracks, a built in Strategy Guide and a Bonus Chapter, enjoy (if you don't try to compare this game to the other fantastic Dark Dimension games!) It never fails. Reviews are always either "OMG, this is the best game EVER!!!" or "I'm so bored with this awful dreck." Well, hopefully, my review is somewhere in between. You already figured out the story from others, I'm sure.
Daily Magic puts out some decent games and has good cred, though they can be uneven at times. I've played a few and been content enough.
This series has been interesting to me, and I'll play it blind without the demo. The story is easy enough to follow, and I like the ballerina angle. The HOs are nicely varied, not just lists; some are sequences of finding objects to use on other objects. The puzzles are on the easy side--phoo! I like more challenge, but that's how Daily Magic rolls.
Repeating the untangling string puzzle was a pain because I don't like doing the same puzzle over and over. Even if it is to dispel shadows.
Collectibles are shadow figurines. Collect them all and see a storybook on how the shadows arrived in the first place. No morphs. Several achievements--most you've seen before.
The main game is about 3+ hours, the bonus game a little over an hour. Bonus game is slightly related to main story. CE bling included a bonus puzzle not seen in main game--it has 8 levels. Besides the usual bling there are replayable HOs and puzzles. I didn't miss any collectibles, so not sure if you can go back and find any you missed.
Is it worth a CE? Wellll, not...not really. I liked the game fine but could you have just as much fun with the SE? Yes. Yes, you could. Show less

After just finishing another, earlier Dark Dimensions game, I am happy to say that the games just keep getting better. They keep the same tone of dark creepiness, this time with a shadow that is scary strong and destructive. There is a definite tie to the earlier games in the series.

The version I played was the Collector's edition, but I would have been just as happy to have gotten the standard. I felt the bonus game wasn't anything noteworthy and the extra extra puzzles were pointless.

You are off to visit your old college friend, Ashley, a “radio superstar,” being stalked by “shadows” from the past. Being an investigator of the supernatural, you are there to “rush” to her defense and “shine the light of truth” on what is lurking behind those shadows. I like (not love) this game. I do like the puzzle-like aspect of the game which includes some mini-puzzles in both the inventory and HOP scenes. There is an equal amount of HOP scenes and mini-puzzles. The graphics and the VO’s are decent.
Most of the HOP scenes require sequential steps in locating items and the demo includes both silhouette and lists of items to locate. There are also mini-HOP scenes in search of a small number of one item. The mini-games are varied and include variations of jigsaw puzzles, sliding tiles puzzles, and in at least one instance you must locate and replace items back into the scenes (which is more like a HOP scene than a mini-game.)
Déjà vu? Didn’t BFG just offer a game similar to this? The game format is reminiscent of a previous game using a lantern to get rid of shadows. In this case, to use the lantern, you must untangle lines so that the lines do not intersect each other. By carrying all the lanterns in these games, maybe I can aspire to become the Town Crier at a historical village. I will await its presence as an SE. To me, it is a decent game but lacking the quality of a CE.
LEVELS: Casual, Advanced, Hard, Custom
Hints 1 to 100 seconds Skips 1 to 100 random clicking in the game
EXTRAS:
Map - Map is provided as you play the game
16 Achievements
Collect 10 scene silhouettes to provide a story of the town
Receive a crystal to help get rid of the shadows. Every time you need to remove shadows, you must untangle lines so that none cross each other.
Strategy guide
Usual wallpaper, artwork, screensavers. Replay of 12 HOP scenes and 12 mini-games
HERE ARE THE DETAILS (SPOILERS) FOR THOSE WANT MORE INFORMATION ON THE HOP SCENES AND MINI-PUZZLES
HOP SCENES:
A. List of items to locate. There is a mini-puzzle within this HOP scene. Place bottles in order to create two pictures. Interactive and puzzle-like
B. Mini-HOP scenes. Locate and replace 10 stars into a lantern
C. List of items to locate. Again, it is interactive and puzzle-like. Actions must be completed sequentially
D. Silhouette. Locate a specific number of items in silhouette. Using arrows, the HOP scene expands to include more scenery in which to search for items
MINI-GAMES:
A. Untangle lines so that no line crosses another line. You will do the same puzzle every time you need to use the lantern to get rid of shadows. EASY
B. Variation of a jig saw puzzle. Using arrows – move puzzle pieces so they interconnect to create an emblem MODERATELY DIFFICULT
C. Use switches to connect wires to fuses. EASY
D. Variation of a sliding tiles puzzle. Rotate colored tiles so that they create a pattern according to a schematic. MODERATELY DIFFICULT
E. Locate and replace figures, placing them into their correct locations EASY

This game gave a lot of hours of pleasure and enjoyment ... and whilst did not have that WOW factor, was worth money paid and came close to expectations.
Won't go into the storyline as I am sure you all know that by now .. my review is to help you decide ... it was worth purchasing, lovely graphics, different storyline than has lately been offered, and whilst not difficult, was challenging enjoyable enough that you didn't have to finally "cheat"!
I always play in custom mode as I like to set my own challenges, and try to make them as hard as I can without taking away the enjoyment. This game offered enjoyable challenges in their puzzles, you didn't have to be a smart, whizz-bang playing guru to solve them ... so great satisfaction there! Some easy, but some challenging but enjoyable!
As usual, the DEVS seem to have to continue putting in HOPS but in this game they were like a matching session ... find one to get to the next, find another for the next solve and on it went. Enjoyable and at times, challenging. Really enjoyed their HOP sessions ... as I usually dislike having to go through one just to find that needed object!
I do enjoy these days having small HOPS inbetween, having "books" or the like to fill in or find what they are asking for ... usually easy and simple but a nice change!
This game is lovely, fairly simple and follows all the protocols of a Hidden Object/Adventure Game ... nothing mind-blowing or different or "special" but still worth buying and enjoyable.
To boot, the bonus play is great, almost another game in its length and challenge so you do get a lot of hours of play. There is also a special game in the bonus content which I had hours enjoying just for the fun of it!
Oh ... and also ... love the collectibles in this instance! How often do I finish a game but have missed out on just one! In this game, in a close-up, it does not shut down so you know you have it to find! Well done!
Lovely game, worth buying, won't blow your brains out, but reasonably challenging, enjoyable where it won't frustrate you, perhaps a bit easy for experienced puzzlers but overall, another great offering. Show less
