First of all, this game states that it is a Hidden Object Game, but that's only because you have to find 6 hidden keys to open the gate to begin the Match 3 games. The graphics are bewitchingly fantastic, the music is purrfect and the Match 3 game is spooktacular! You can choose between a Casual Relaxed mode or a Timed mode which will certainly please Frankenstein because he's a laid back kind of ...Show more

First of all, this game states that it is a Hidden Object Game, but that's only because you have to find 6 hidden keys to open the gate to begin the Match 3 games. The graphics are bewitchingly fantastic, the music is purrfect and the Match 3 game is spooktacular! You can choose between a Casual Relaxed mode or a Timed mode which will certainly please Frankenstein because he's a laid back kind of dude.

The Match 3 icons are pretty gross, eyeballs, bloody knives, snakes, brains, spiders and skeletons are the norm here as you decorate your creepy mansion for Halloween. Each decoration you buy, comes along with a different bonus or an upgrade to an existing bonus. There are Silver Crosses that will burn 8 tiles around it, Pumpkins with thick peel and rough skin that explodes to destroy tiles, The Forest Witch destroys tiles vertically, The Fire Witch destroys tiles horizontally, and even a hammer (which may have been used before) to destroy a selected tile.

There are Wooden Crates and Stone tiles, as well as the typical Gold and Silver tiles that require at least one match on or near to destroy them. My favorite feature was the Spiders and Ghosts which multiply if you don't make matches near them, and can easily take over if not dealt with quickly. The goal is to make a specific number of matches if certain tiles, break all silver and gold tiles, and collect items by dropping them to the bottom of the board within a specific time to earn 3 gold stars. This is the best match 3 game I've played in a long time. The board is full of spooky tiles such as bubbling cauldrons, gravestones, disembodied eyes, bloody knives, skulls with brains, magic spell books, a creepy collection of tiles that fits with the halloween theme.

This is the best match 3 game I've played in a long time. The board is full of spooky tiles such as bubbling cauldrons, gravestones, disembodied eyes, bloody knives, skulls with brains, magic spell books, a creepy collection of tiles that fits with the halloween theme.

There is a timed mode, and a "moves" mode that is not timed but limits the number of moves you have to complete the board.

For each board there are several tasks to complete in order to finish, such as collecting a certain number of specific types of tiles, or maybe bringing a golden skull to the bottom of the screen.

There are helpful bonuses, such as forming matches of 4 or more will produce a crucifix that shoots rays in four directions at once, or witches on broomsticks that fly across or up the board clearing rows of tiles. There are also pistols, hammers, and other helpful objects.

The backgrounds change as you progress and are beautiful detailed renderings of creepy old houses and crypts and other landscape. As you clear boards you earn gold that you can use to decorate your own haunted house with some seriously creepy decorations.

I am having a lot of fun playing this, and I highly recommend it. Show less

I feel the only thing this game would have needed to make it perfect is to let us set the Haunted House scene we are decorating to save as a Screensaver, or at the very least wallpaper.

I’ve listed some other Halloween match 3 games that are super similar to this one that I think you will like equally:

1. Queen’s Garden: Halloween
~in this M3 you decorate a garden instead. You can change the scene from night to day to watch your little costumed trick or treaters walk the paths of your garden.

2. Jewel Match: Twilight
~You get wallpapers in the SE and decorate a scene for Halloween.

3. Spooky Bonus
~Spooky Bonus also gives you wallpapers with the SE! You also decorate a haunted house for Halloween in that game.

If you like Hidden Object games also try this little jewel of a game made in 2013. It is not normally under a Halloween search.

On the game’s page Halloween City of Witches is classified as a HO game when in reality it is a match 3 game. At the beginning of the game we search for keys and perhaps as we complete more levels there will be HO scenes that we search to move forward.

The graphics are awesome and just perfect for Halloween. There are voiceovers and other wonderful sounds that set the stage. The game offers two modes of gameplay -relaxed and timed. I chose relaxed so that I could enjoy creating matches with no pressure to finish within a set time limit. As we complete the boards we earn gold coins that can be used to purchase power-ups or decorative items.

If you enjoy match 3 type games and want to jump into the Halloween fun, then I recommend that you try the demo. After about 30 minutes of fun, I decided that Save Halloween is the perfect game for me. Show less

I won't repeat all that has been said as there are some great reviews here, but yes the untimed version does it for me.
You can still earn 3 stars on each level, as this game concentrates on scores, gold and items collected, and particular matches made (ie 5's etc), rather than just speed (although you won't get the bonus wings or crowns).

I was about to give up on level 19 as the spiders were getting to me, to the extent that my arm was aching and I was getting really annoyed. BUT when I switched to the untimed mode it became much more enjoyable in a more relaxed way The spider only increases one square at a time per move, and it is easier to control and then deal with them.
For me this speed allowed me to enjoy the game, the graphics are lovely, it's bright and cheerful (not too scary!), the game flows really nicely, and I still have a challenge to ensure I get the three stars. Some levels have had to be repeated to achieve this, but the fun factor has gone up tenfold.

For those of you who can't handle crazy speeds and frustration, give it a go this way instead, it's a super game. Show less

This is my favorite Match 3 Game of all time. The graphics are crisp and clean, the difficulty level increases as you play each level and the theme is really fun and spooky. At 100 levels - plus the Hidden Object levels - it is great value for your money. I also love that you can choose to play "relaxed" as I play games for relaxation and as a pain management technique; relaxed mode allows the stress levels to remain low. :) I've already played through 4 times and do not plan on stopping. Some boards have an item you have to drop to the bottom of the board, or clean spiderwebs, some of which have spiders in them that will chase you and cover the board if you don't make matches next to them. This is a fun match 3 game where you're helping to retrieve the "stone of the dead" by fighting off enemies on the match 3 board. Some boards have an item you have to drop to the bottom of the board, or clean spiderwebs, some of which have spiders in them that will chase you and cover the board if you don't make matches next to them. There are also ghosts that do the same. If you make the goal of the level you don't have to clear all the spiders/webs/ghosts away, you will just go to the next level. There are "events" at times where you have to find ghosts, scrolls, or other items in a hidden object game which is very easy, only 7 to find. The colors are bright and fun, the sounds are of the Halloween type, creepy and cute. Music also is a Halloween tune, which I love. You get to decorate your house and can use it or other scenes as desktops, very cute! Some of the house upgrades have items that help you in your battles, some will upgrade the weapons you already have. The boards with spiders or ghosts can be challenging, but I loved that, made the game fun. There are 2 witch helpers you can use, one will clear all vertical rows, the other, all horizontal rows. There is opening dialog and after that, written dialog. For some weird reason, there is one curse word used in the beginning of the game, but some might not think it's a "bad" word. It's just not something I like to see or hear in any game, no matter how "mild" it might be. One of the witches is dressed in a low cut dress. If this is offensive to you or children, you might be somewhat bothered by it. But I do love the game and have replayed it a few times as I was in the "Halloween" mood early this year! It is very similar to another Halloween game, "Spooky Bonus", which I also love. Maybe made by the same maker? I asked if there would be a Spooky Bonus 2, but maker said no. (darn it). I do recommend this fun Halloween game, happy gaming everyone! Show less

Playing on timed and finding it a challenge to get the high timed score and high level total score. Really like the challenge. You get to buy items for the house and bonuses. Nice to have a new seasonal game to play.
