You have been called to work on a case in the Sunshine State at the Broadbeach Resort. The victim is the well-known high-roller playboy Johnny Abilli, a man who from his own description has seen it all and is rather bored with life. His only thrill comes from living on the edge and even that has lost its appeal. As you gather the evidence you come up with a resort full of suspects and at the top of the list is a soon to be ex-wife who wants her share of the assets. Step back in time to circa 1950s as you solve the crime and prove once again why you are a master detective.
The game options include four modes of gameplay: Easy, Medium, Hard and Custom. In the custom mode the hints can be set to recharge anywhere from 10 to 120 seconds and the puzzle skips can be set to recharge in a range of 10 to 400 seconds. You can also turn of the HOP error click penalty. It should be no surprise that the graphics are excellent as are the voiceovers.
Your tools include an interactive map and an evidence board where you collect notes and other objects you find that will help you identify the killer.
There are various types of interactive HOPs, some are the standard list type and others are silhouette type. If you don’t want to look for items in the HOPS you have to option to play a bubble shooter type game. There is not much to say other than the game was baked using the same cookie cutter molds that are familiar from this game developer. At one time their games were unique but now they are much the same with the same recycled puzzles even though some have increased in difficulty. The puzzles are still doable without too much effort so there is something here for everyone. If you play every HOPA game released then, like me, you might have that feeling of been here and done that before; however, for all their sameness, I still love HOPA games.

The CE content is standard and there are no surprises here either. There are collectibles, morphing objects (although I haven’t spotted them), achievements, strategy guide, wallpapers, videos, etc. You either prefer the CEs or choose to wait for the SE release and that is a matter of preference.

Even though there is nothing new here, I love a good mystery and Broadbeach Cove seems to have it all. Finding evidence and sorting through the possibilities is sure to present hours of good old-fashioned sleuthing entertainment. If you happen to love every new HOPA game that comes along you probably hit that buy button as quickly as I did. Even though I love the game, please at least try the demo to see if this is a game you will enjoy.

- Story: You’re a detective, investigating a homicide. A very interesting beginning makes one curious about what had happened. All of your suspicions could have done it. The investigation turns to be quite dangerous for yourself.
- Difficulty can be customized in all issues: Tutorial, sparkles, map issues, glitter, contextual pointer, plus item indicator, helping texts, penalty and hint / skip recharge.
- Graphics/locations: excellent, highest quality.
- Animation: extremely well animated.
- Music: fitting, sometimes thriller like but subdued.
- Voice-overs: very good, synchronized, fitting.
- Tools: you have an interactive map and an evidence board.
- HO’s: They were really good. Several types mostly description, silhouettes, images and riddles. Some were interactive.
You can switch to bubble.
- Mini games: Nothing new, but really well-crafted. Difficulty mostly medium, rarely easy.
- Adventure part: Even w/o helping texts doable, it was mostly logical. Not always, some whereabouts were a little bit too imaginative, e.g. the triangle key hidden in a gold club or a magnet in a mouth. All in all was it almost realistic. You have about 7+/- locations to investigate, needed items aren’t too obvious and spread about many locations. Therefore it was challenging. From my point of view one single task (projector) could w/o hint not been solved, because it was not distinct pictured.
The locations unfolded step by step, each was available during the entire game. However, in the main it was clear which locations were relevant.
- Length: I needed nearly 4 1/2 hours for completing.

This Dead Reckoning game, my first, stands out because of the expandable objects and interactive HO scenes. The mini-games are perfect - just difficult enough to keep things interesting without being impossible. That must be a hard level to hit, so kudos to the game designers.
I really got into the mystery, as well, trying to figure out whodunnit! Am I a total nerd if I confess I had a bit of a crush on the victim? (He was cute.) The characterization of his wife and others really came through. I loved scanning the witnesses and suspects to see if they were lying or telling the truth.
As I said, this is my first Dead Reckoning - but definitely not my last. I'll be back! Show less

The story begins with you investigating a murder. The victim is Johnny Abilli, a man that had everything: money, women, adventure… but got bored of it all. He was living life on the edge and that was still not enough for him. But apparently he went too far because he’s now dead and you’re left with a bunch of suspects – each with enough motives to be the killers – and one big question: who did it? Embark on a great adventure to find out everything in a story whose plot thickens as soon as you start gathering evidence and a mystery that will keep you hooked to the end! After tons of hidden object adventures where unicorns and other fantasy creatures were either friends or foes (or both), a change in scenery and a more earthly cast is more than welcome. There’s no supernatural here, no paranormal activities, no talking owl to guide you through the game and sometimes a bit of realism is everything that you need – so I really enjoyed this break from the fantasy lands, while focusing 100% on a well written and executed mystery. The hidden object scenes are interactive and nice, with a ton of objects to look through – sometimes maybe a bit too many – but that’s what a detective has to do: dig through piles of garbage to find the one piece he’s missing! The puzzles are also very standard, with nothing to really get your attention, but they’re all well executed and mostly related to the mystery setting, ranging from very easy to pretty challenging, so again there’s nothing to complain here, on the contrary! The game looks very good and some scenes are absolutely breathtaking, but also on some occasions I had the feeling that the background was drawn first and objects were later on added to the mix, leaving them look a bit strange, like they don’t really belong there. It’s not a deal breaker, but sometimes those specific items seem to really pop up and they do mess up the graphics a bit. But at least the sounds are all good, as well as the voiceovers, so I don’t have to complain – one again – about the annoying sounds in a HOG. I did enjoy that Dead Reckoning: Broadbeach Cove does offer a bit of a challenge when it comes to the collectibles and morphing objects, which are really difficult to find. To be honest, actually, I wasn’t able to find the morphing objects but the game’s fortunately good enough to be worth a second play maybe on a more relaxed level of difficulty and I will find them! But if you don’t want to replay the game, make sure to be very careful and pay attention to all details, because this is not one of those games that allows you to breeze through them and collect everything without even trying. Which is a good thing, in my opinion! Being a Collector’s Edition, the game offers the regular bling, including a Strategy Guide, achievements, wallpapers, re-playable scenes and a brand new Chapter with a bonus Mystery, so it’s well worth the price. If the bonus mystery is your only deciding factor then you'll be happy with the standard edition. All in all, Dead Reckoning: Broadbeach Cove is a very solid entry in the series, a well written and perfectly executed mystery that will keep you hooked from start to finish and will manage to amaze you every now and then. Players of every level will be able to enjoy this latest addition to this Eipix jewel. Enjoy! Show less

I completed the game but it wasn't as enjoyable as I had expected. It started out well with TV personality, Johnny Abilli being murdered and a number of suspects right off the bat. But I felt the game moved along too slowly and I thought the investigation in and around the club house would never end. I had played quite a long time before there was any spoken dialogue, nor had any characters made an appearance. So I was about to just uninstall.
Fortunately, it picked up pace and things got a lot more interesting, there was more action after arriving at Stewart Dent's house...and more shady characters came out of the woodwork. The evidence board filled up quickly and was easy to follow. In some games they are not so well organized. There were plenty of suspects to ponder over.
The graphics and colors are amongst the best, as in all the Dead Reckoning games. The characters were rendered in an excellent fashion for the time this story represents...the clothes, furniture style, cars. The voices were done very well. I don't care about the lip movement as it has nothing to do with the game play, it doesn't ruin the entertainment for me.
The music was good, there were no tech problems. I enjoyed all the games, had to skip a couple. I thought the HOGs were especially enjoyable and I love the interactive ones. There were lots of items in the HOGs but they weren't over cluttered junk piles that required a bulldozer to search through them!
I am giving this Dead Reckoning 5 stars because of the great graphics, characters and games/puzzles. I wasn't won over with the story itself because it just didn't have enough substance to it to satisfy my taste in crime games.
God Bless.... Show less

Many HOPs and puzzles, some of them pretty inventive and others very difficult. The game is very long, which is a very good thing! And the puzzles within the scenes make sense for the most part. Later on some of the items are tedious, for example: The Mermaid or The Anchor going into a certain place that you may have forgotten about a few scenes ago, but that's a tribute to just how very long the game is, which again is excellent. A few times I had to use the Maps - and Hint - system because I wasn't sure what to do next. But that's on me, not the game. Overall I thoroughly enjoyed this bright, colorful game hanging out, playing detective and really enjoying myself in this wonderful game. Show less

Johnny Abilli was a player, he loved gambling and he loved women, he loved living his life on the edge, the riskier the better. He believed the filth was rising around him enough to drown, and he was okay with it. Johnny had everything, good looks, good fortune, good money, but Johnny had a wife, and she wanted out. Johnny's luck has turned south, quite literally, his lifeless body has been found aboard his luxury yacht at the Broadbeach Resort in sunny Florida. The problem is, multiple people have multiple motives in this fabulous whodunit mystery!
There aren't really any gimmicks in this adventure, but you do have an Evidence Board and the ability to interrogate your suspects searching for evidence to nab the killer. The Collector's Edition has a Hidden Sign in each scene, for a total of 40, and there are the usual Achievements to earn as well.
The Hidden Object Scenes are just okay in my book, a little disappointing because the scenes are all junkpiles and tend to be on the blurry side, with substandard graphics. They range from listed items to progressive Silhouetted Shape finds, most are multi-layered. You can opt for a Bubble Shoot game if you're not into HOP's, I chose to play the Bubble Shoot game on this SE and it's a nice change of pace, however, you can't lose, if the bubbles reach the bottom a new board is generated with no penalty.
The Mini Games are good, some really easy, some challenging. Below are brief descriptions of some of the games you'll encounter during the demo.
1) Find the roads from the traffic report then place the road signs correctly.
2) Develop negatives by following detailed directions.
3) Move the puzzle pieces from the first road to the third using empty color coded slots.
The Collector's Edition has 11 Achievements, 40 Hidden Signs, 18 replayable Puzzles, 15 replayable HOP's, Bubble Shoot unlimited, 9 Videos, 8 Wallpapers, 8 Concept Art pictures, 10 Music Soundtracks, a built in Strategy Guide and a Bonus Adventure, enjoy! Show less
