How cool is this game? Very. The characters feature a lot and thank goodness they're likeable and pretty much know their way around their neighborhood. Stick around and you'll be safe...maybe. The mountains of the city ARE the tall buildings; the sounds might not be birds and water features, but we have the humming and buzzing of the city as it breathes (well, you know what I mean!).

WHAT I LIKED:
1. Cityscapes, 2. Cool, street-wise characters, 3. Moonlit, rainy city, with glowing fluorescent lights, 4. Warehouses and railway depos, 5. Lots of metals, large glass windows, 6. Lots of spacious areas.

Plenty of HOPS - Enjoyable to play. The puzzles were varied and quite unusual from say a couple of years ago.

The music was so good I turned it up!

WHAT I DIDN'T LIKE:
Right after the demo, and lasting around 30 mins, there is a lull in the story. It's a bit of an outlier – and not in sync with the atmosphere of the city. I was relieved when the story reverted back to the city-based story. Show less

We loved the sound track. The voice overs were very realistic and matched the characters personalities. The sound effects were phenomenal: lots of creepy and horrific noises. The music was very well done.
Hidden Object scenes were also very well done. Some with silhouette clues, some with word clues. One scene was s television broadcast, inside the television screen inside a bar. We really enjoyed it.
Puzzles were a lot of fun. Some were easy, some were hard, something for everyone.
We had to buy it. Can't wait to complete the game, and can't wait for Chapter Two. Show less

This game, for me, had a story and action so engrossing that looking away from my monitor left me wondering where I was. No mindless placing items here to open that, etc. No boring slow pace waiting for the game to end. I loved it.

The metropolitan, modern environment with flickering neon signs and graffiti was what I instantly liked. We play as Chris Andersen, kind of a modern Knight of Justness, who chases after his abducted girlfriend Rachel. It's always night and always raining, but the atmosphere is far from bleak. Intriguing back alleys, industrial parking lots, a seedy hallway and the old elevator with snake fence, even an ATM money safe, the snug Red Cape Bar with running tv ... we feel right at home in this picturesque urban jungle.

But soon we notice inconsistences, outlandish stuff. We suddenly are in an orphanage which looks like an old palace: huge halls with marble columns, stucco, painted wood panelling and filigrane stone masonnery at the windows. Is this the state of the art for orphanages? It is not winter - but we see gingerbread houses everywhere. Rachel's case, where she keeps the motobike keys, is a curlicued depiction of Little Red Riding Hood and the wolf, a horribly ugly gadget from 19th century. This game is a weird mixture of bygone kitsch and contemporary coolness.
Unfortunately, the soundtrack also follows the bygone style, is repetitive, uninspired and completely misguided. The thrilling city setting calls for something more electronic or jazzy. Even the Bay City Rollers would have been more fitting than this orchestral Muzak. This is clearly a missed opportunity.

The HOPs I found very inventive; we have for example a news report on television, x-ray photographs on a computer screen, a mural in colourful graffiti style or we must find ascii animals on a page of codes. There is a tresor in a deserted train station, full to the brim with jewellery, brooches, pins, all kind of glittery knick-knack – exactly what we expect to find at rundown stations, lol.

The story is ecclectic at best. They had actually a rather original idea about “magical tattoos” - but destroyed it quite instantly with incoherent supernatural mumbo-jumbo. It starts out with people who get a tattoo with "spiced" ink. In a good story, these people would for example develop hallucinations which prompt them to try to fly from high buildings. Police would be concerned about the increasing rate of suizides … The perfect premises to create a thrilling case about illicit drugs and the mastermind behind it, methinks.
But it wasn't enough for Eipix. They had to introduce supernatural powers, resurrected dolls, witches without any other purpose than to set the floor on fire or freeze it, a mirror as a portal, people dissolving into smoke, the CEO of a company conducting a ritual ... sigh. They simply couldn't decide whether this game should be crime fiction or a fairy tale ... and implemented approximately every magical hokum which we see nowadays in EVERY game. Thus we have now this anything-goes compromise.

Your old friend Rachel has reached out to you and you’re to meet at the Red Cape Bar for a happy reunion. Everything seems great; you catch up on the latest, you admire her new tattoo…wait – is it glowing? The bar’s television catches Rachel’s attention suddenly as there are reports of missing people around the city. Also, there’s a health warning regarding new tattoos everyone is getting with exotic ink. The reporter warns those who have the new tattoos to seek medical attention immediately!!! Suddenly, there’s an explosion, a man yells, and she’s disappeared with a shriek in a cloud of smoke. Rachel’s been kidnapped and taken down the alley by some thug! Welcome to the Anderson Accounts, Chapter One. You’re Chris Anderson, who is on an unusual case. Science and reason seem to come up short in this magical mystery so you need to think outside-of-the-box!!! The atmosphere is set in a city by the bay. Rain softly pelts the buildings outside. Neon lights glow softly in the darkness. Old warehouses are faded in the soft light of the moon. It’s a really wonderful setting – and going from old building to old building really adds to the game. You’re looking for Rachel in her apartment, but the old dilapidated elevator is broken and there are papers littered everywhere. You can tell the place isn’t kept up and it’s not located in the nicest of areas. But that makes it interesting as well as there’s so much to explore in the clutter. The background music is excellent, both adventuresome and thrilling, but not over the top. You can hear distant city noises as well, which makes you feel like you’re really there. The voiceovers are great, and graphics are well done. Those dark colors of the city add to the suspense of the game.
All the games are great. The mini games are so tied into the game that you feel like you’re almost on an obstacle course. Figure one out and you can move to the next level. They’re themed and fun to play – not too hard. I found myself trying many of them out instead of hitting the skip button. If you’re fast (and you will be, they’re not too hard), you get achievements. The hidden object puzzles are extremely well done and very creative. One HOP adds neon to objects, which is a nice tie-in to the city theme. Objects also morph, and you have to collect a total of 16 throughout the game. I also like the hint button – it sends out a scorched fireball that winds around the scene and points you in the right direction.
Along the way, you begin to think maybe you don’t know Rachel as well as you thought. You discover she likes to wear a red cape (you locate it in your search). You also have to find a hidden Red Riding Hood in each location, to find a total of 31. Hmmmm… I wonder what direction this is going? Additionally, there does happen to be a wolf painting in her apartment. Clue upon clue unravels a well-known story in the midst of this mystery. This was a wonderful game to play. All the mysterious elements work really well with the story. The pace is perfect, and along with the surroundings, you really feel like you’re in the midst of a city hunting for your friend. All the mini games are great to play – and so well done with the theme. Whether you choose the CE version or the SE version; If you want something a little different that blends, science fiction with an old fairytale, then I would recommend checking out Anderson Accounts, Chapter One. I do have issues with it but not with the music, graphics, or the story, with the exception of the ending which I thought was a bit trite due to the magic aspect which is, at times, nicely intertwined within the story but at other times, like with the headmistress, silly.

It is possible to work magic into a story, and I think this developer can do it but it fell short in this game. Hence, I would like another chapter because the overall idea I like very much. The and mini games and HOPs are well integrated into the story, and I appreciate that.

I am not that skillful with mini games but I always find the mini games with this developer interesting and new, generally. Geometric shapes are not my forte but I am getting better. Others have offered specific and helpful comments regarding these games so I suggest you take a look at their reviews.

If you like noir, you should give the game a try but make sure you try the demo first. Show less

Exactly how it is tied into the story of Red Riding Hood is not immediately obvious, but I have every confidence the connection will be revealed, despite what has been said. The idea of people getting magical powers from tattoos that are 'poisoning' them is just way cool.

And the visuals are great for this kind of story. I do agree, though, that the larger inventory bar does make it seem a bit claustrophic. And yes, without a doubt, the moving from scene to scene or backing out of a close up is a real pain. The cursor needs to be in a different spot in relation to the screen from what we're used to, and it is hard to move.

For this design flaw, I have taken off a star in my rating. Even playing the best game ever would suffer from that kind of constraint of movement. I see that the games problem was fixed by the update I downloaded, because I had no issues.

Otherwise, everything I love about Eipix games. HOPs are quite challenging, but not overly so IMHO, and it is a 'dark' game, so yes, the HOPs are too. I think an alternative game for the HOPs, for those people who found them frustrating, would have been a good idea.

Puzzles ranged from easy even for me, to "darn I have to skip already?" I definitely think the SG alone would make this game better in the CE version than standard. I needed to use hint!

Of course, there are a lot of other extras to go with the CE package. Achievements, collectibles, morphing objects (in HOPs), replayables, the Souvenir Room, art and music, and the bonus chapter.

I really want to finish playing this game right now, but I will wait - for the $$$ to buy the CE.

For more than most games, I suggest you need to trial this one for yourself, it is definitely not everyone's cup of tea. Show less

Story flowed forward with some back and forth to recover objects and this could be resolved somewhat if Chapter 2 is in the works, good locations, lots of tasks, some more intricate than others. I liked this game except for the mini games, not a fan, because they were time consuming with lots of shuffling, connecting, mazes styles and once finished with one some had two more parts, one was enough! However, the ones that required completion of an object, task or flask were well crafted. Hidden object games were well-crafted with beautiful designs, different approach to some that were interesting, but a few items were difficult to discern, but “hidden” is what it is all about. I played the trial and thought some of the reviews were pretty harsh, so purchased the SE to find out for myself. I enjoyed the game, the characters and the story and I will purchase the next one if they move forward with Chapter 2.

Mini Game 3: To be fair, not a fan of mini games. Too many in this game, shuffling, mazes, connections, just found many annoying, sometimes confusing and more time consuming than fun, will use the custom and skip them on replay! Hand eye coordination required in a few and some continued to 3 parts, repetitive, but have to say the design and development was well-done and attention to detail was excellent

Some continuity areas 2: Cigarette in ashtray on bar, only bartender was there and had a cigarette in his mouth? Maybe customer got stuck in the rest room? Left computer on so bad guys could find information. Shame! Hid in back of truck but had to break a lock to open it? Maybe I missed another truck but was only large one there? Show less

I was hoping this game would pick up the pace a bit, but man it's boring! It's the same thing over and over, you progress to a new chapter but you don't progress to any new tasks. You just do the same thing you did in the last scene, zoom into an area of interest, pick up an item that's wedged into a puzzle (wbtw is missing 2 pieces) then you scurry back to exactly one previous scene, place the previously wedged piece, solve a mini-game to open the door, find another wedged piece, go back one scene, place the pieces, pick up another wedged piece...lather, rinse, repeat. The only thing that changes is the shape of the puzzle piece.

The last 4 games I've played, have a Doberman or Rottweiler viciously guarding his turf and won't budge until you give him food or a bone, then, of course, he disappears completely. Doesn't anybody ever provide food for these poor little guys? Can't these devs come up with any other obstacle other than "throwing the dog a bone" or giving a bird something shiny in exchange for that famous puzzle piece inside her nest? Or giving berries to a bird to make them fly away, or a cookie to a raccoon so they'll go inside their den and bring you back a key that somehow you knew they had in the first place? In the end, this is another mediocre game with an awesome storyline that could have been an awesome game, but it's as if they ran out of ideas or didn't think this one through. Here's a recap of my review to help you decide which version, if either, is right for you:

Rachel was looking forward to meeting Chris at the Red Cape Bar because just next door is her new apartment. Rachel decided to get a brand new tattoo to celebrate the occasion, but little did she know that the tattoo ink was breaking news, and her life would never be the same! Chris Andersen's life is about to be turned upside-down as well when he finds himself knee-deep in a tattoo conspiracy with deadly consequences! The deeper Chris delves into this case, the more he realizes that he already knows too much, the truth is out there, Rachel is out there, but the truth is never what it seems..........

I wish they would have included a few more tasks per scene (and didn't repeat the tasks over and over) because there isn't much to do, a puzzle or HOP here and there, and perhaps picking up or placing an item, is all you get to do. I just think there was a lot of missed opportunities. In the CE version, there are Little Red Riding Hood Signs to find in each scene, but most of them are not very well hidden, in fact, in the third chapter one of them was sitting in the middle of the floor! And of course, the CE also has the famous HOP Morphing Object to find, but that's about it for bling, other than the wallpapers, music, SG normalities.

The Hidden Object Scenes include variations of Listed Items, Multiples of the same Items, (such as 9 Stamps) Riddle Descriptions, Black & White picture finds, Pictures in Color finds, and Silhouetted Shape finds. There isn't a lot of interaction with the items, such as finding and using objects interactively, but I liked the creativity of some of the scenes, such as a TV, or Mail Box slots in an apartment complex. Each of the HOP's has a Morphing Object to find (CE version) and I will admit that some of them are quite tricky to spot!

The Mini Games are for the most part, unique and some are very creative, although I'd prefer them to be a bit more complex and a tad bit longer. I really enjoyed the Fuses puzzle and the Fire Escape puzzle, but just when you get engrossed in the puzzle it ends! Here's a list of brief descriptions that you'll come across in the demo:

1) Move the patterned discs to their matching slots.
2) Swap stones to complete the design.
3) Connect + to - fuses to create a current using slider bars.
4) Point arrows to symbols a specified number of times.
5) Select levers to adjust ladders and bridges to create a path
6) Swap color-coded discs to their matching slots.

The Collector's Edition version has 8 Wallpapers, 8 Concept Art pictures, 9 Music Soundtracks, 17 re-playable Puzzles, 16 re-playable Hidden Object Scenes, 24 Collectible Souvenirs, 41 Hidden Little Red Riding Hood Signs, 16 Morphing Objects within the Hidden Object Puzzles, 5 Main Chapters + Bonus Chapter (Three Little Pigs) and a built-in Strategy Guide.
