Enjoy playing the role of Emily Patterson who is set to showcase her father’s latest scientific invention during the invention expo in Paris. Suddenly, the unexpected happens when your father is kidnapped by an unknown man during the scene of a technological malfunction. With the local authorities being of no help, it is your duty to conduct your own investigation and find your father. Orchid Games collaborated with Artifex Mundi to deliver a steampunk-inspired adventure that really impressed me. The storyline in Modern Tales: Age of Invention is about a kidnapped parent, with a rather unique theme that makes the game very interesting. Modern Tales: Age of Invention offers a smart hybrid between steampunk, science fiction, and traditional detective mystery. The game involves an extensive amount of character interactions and dialogs, but they are all necessary to advance the storyline. Another strong aspect of Modern Tales: Age of Invention is the production. The game features exceptionally stunning location designs along with some gorgeous fluorescent lighting and color. The level of detail in each scene is mind-blowing, even the hidden object scenes look as glorious as ever. Some aspects of the audio presentation are less impressive. The background music is pleasant and all, but the voice-acting, especially of the protagonist, seems to remain calm at all times, which takes away from the emotional stakes of the game. Whether you chose the SE or CE version of the game your definitely getting your money's worth of gameplay. Modern Tales: Age of Invention offers a playtime of around six hours (without skipping), plus an hour for the bonus chapter. The Collector’s Edition bling includes a strategy guide, wallpapers, concept art, soundtracks, videos, replayable hidden object scenes, replayable mini-games, achievements, and collectibles. I was surprised by how enjoyable this game is and I look forward to the developer's creating a sequel soon. Cheers! Show less

My favorite games feature story lines that make sense. I have been playing HO/adventure games for a few years now concentrating mostly on hidden objects and puzzles and giving little notice to story. My favorite games feature story lines that make sense. I have been playing HO/adventure games for a few years now concentrating mostly on hidden objects and puzzles and giving little notice to story. Clearly I have missed a lot but then, I have many a game to play again. Only recently I have begun to submit reviews.

Within that context, Modern Tales is my kind of game because its story line sets the pace for both hidden objects and puzzles. While it is a familiar rescue theme (daughter and father), that is only where the story starts. Along the way we meet various inventors and inventions with not a lot of back-and-forth inventory retrieving (but some). There is no gore or violence but a fun storyline that stays mostly within science but has just a touch of magic. It really is fun.

Artifex Mundi is a developer that I enjoy, mostly because their stories are a bit different, or at least that is true for the ones I have played. The graphics are better than average and the voice overs are not exactly in sync but they do not distract from the game play. Generally, I play the "casual" setting but sometimes custom as I just want to immerse myself in the game for a while and be a part of another story. This game allowed me to do that. Enjoy! Show less

This game should have been a collectors edition. The puzzles are new and unique.
And the story line was wonderful. I loved the characters also/

Worth the cost and more.

I like this game. Has a good length to it so you get your moneys worth.
A early 1900's adventure game with little steampunk theme.
One does a good amount of searching for items with some a little time consuming but easy to find.
A little easy in parts but all around not to bad.
Voice actors were good with Albert a combo of Arnold and ??? .LOL.

I thought the graphics were good and not to dark.

If I like a game enough that I want to play it I always buy the CE on sale... BUT this started out from the demo a so-so game.. till I played the demo a second time.. For some reason I got really into it and I'm glad I bought it... So I decided to buy the reg game instead of the CE.. I got more into the game as I played passed the demo part... It is not your boring find the objects, back and forth game, it is unusual and very interesting. The minigames are really nice and different than most games. I have played almost every game on big fish's hidden object category, this one is 8.5 out of 10, so most def recommend. It is not something extraordinary, but it is quiet unique and intriguing.

I recommend this game!

I love how they were able to mix fantasy with reality and include famous well-known characters in this newest release from Orchid Games, Modern Tales! Emily Patterson is her dad's right-hand man, her go-to guy (wait a minute, leading lady?) at the Science Exposition in Paris. She's helping dad, Brian Patterson, prepare his presentation for his latest invention, an Energy Emitter when havoc ensues. Her father has just become the latest victim of a kidnapping plot of leading scientists in the technology field. Emily is left on her own to investigate her father's kidnapping when all roads seem to lead to a powerful and influential member of society, Alexandre d' Albignac (a real person btw)

This is a pretty decent game! The graphics are fairly decent, and the storyline is fairly original. You'll recognize familiar names such as Alexander Grahm Bell and you'll even get to buy the very first Porsche made, and it's a really fast car lol. I was a bit confused when the demo ended with 40 minutes to spare because this is a very long game containing 7 decent sized chapters! Unless you purchase the game, you won't have access to ANY bonus content, you don't even get to see what the content is, so for that reason alone, I'm only giving the game 4 stars! In the Collector's Edition version, each scene has a hidden Atom that will unlock a secret of some sort.

The Hidden Object Scenes are a little on the scarce side with only two offered within the demo, but then again the demo is extremely short! The first HOP is an Interactive List find the second is a really well done Interactive Progressive Silhouetted Shape find. There are no alternative games offered.

The Mini Games are interesting, some of which are unique, but the directions could be better. Below are brief descriptions of some of the games you'll encounter during the demo:

1) Place cards correctly to activate the interactions.
2) Connect cables to the sockets in the correct sequence.

The Collector's Edition version has 8 Wallpaper Backgrounds, 8 Concept Art pictures, 5 Music Soundtracks, 8 Movie Video Cutscenes, 8 re-playable Hidden Object Scenes, 8 re-playable Mini Games, 24 Achievements to earn, 30 Hidden Atom Signs, 7 Main Chapters + Bonus Chapter (Secrets of the Monastery) and a built-in Strategy Guide, enjoy!

Excellent story line, mostly do-able puzzles, decent variety of HOS. Most of the scenes appear to be handpainted in acrylic or water color and are well done.
I liked our cheeky heroine, and with heroic if rather bumbling Albert they were a fun pair.

If you are a history buff, there are cameos from Albert Einstein and Coco Chanel. The action takes place in France, Switzerland and Siberia. Switzerland was the nicest part of the game.

The voiceovers are good, but the father of protagonist looks like a young 40 yr old, when his daughter is in her 20s? I would have expected a distinguished doctor with silver hair.

The HOPs and puzzles are easy. Expert mode allows hint, skip and helpful messages, which is plenty of help, as most actions are intuitive and logical.

It's a fun game to play because it's easy to follow the story and figure out what to do next. Just wish the artwork had been nicer.

The game is decent length and took forever to download. Show less
