After being away almost one year, I was hopeful the review process had improved. The only conclusion is that the undeserved, poorer reviewers did not actually play this game. The story was interesting. The game play was surprisingly challenging. Very enjoyable and lengthy. Enjoy! -Mama Mia- Show less

It all began 4 years ago in a house on the hill, now the 4th tale of terror will lead us onto another property, where terror is waiting for us!
We play as an investigative journalist on oour way to the mysterious ‘island of fog’. But something goes wrong and our boat crashes. Then we wake up - in a hospital bed in a living room, We have a drip in our arm and an elderly man tells us that we are safe here and only here. Nice to hear, only we are tied to the bed with an ankle restraint! Once the man has left the room, we begin our escape. From a note, found in our search of the room, we learn, a secret passage leads out of the room behind the fireplace. It was written by some other ‘prisoner’, who apparently has made it out here succussfully.
Step by step we see more of the building, which seems more an old castle than a house, with staff, which has of course the order to not let us escape. The castle-like mansion will not be the only obstacle, when out on the island, the fog lurks with more problems to solve……
Puzzles offer often a hard/normal option, HOS are variable but not exactly creative. The story is not new, but an exciting variation of an escape with many obstacles. Gratefully I see, no amulets, dreamcatchers or other gadgets seem to be used in the game.
Visually the game reminds me of old games, there are no special effects, suspense is created by situations, more an exciting story, than an adventure with all finesses. That's where the appeal lies for me.

I really Love the hops. You have four items that you place a silhouette item and it unlocks a list. Some hops are used twice but I didn't mind, I thought they were nice to look at and linger. They aren't junk piles, were you can't focus because there's too much piled on top of each other. They had a matching pair one that I liked because you don't have to constantly click and move items to find them. They have morphs in the hops 24 of them. They have 14 morphs in the scenes and 36 hidden signs to find. The indicator in the hops disappears when you find the morph. With 25 hops and 18 puzzles it's about time we had more hops in a Hidden Object game.
I played the last one in this series April 2018 and I Loved it. The game is Art of Horror. Deep Shadows also made Haunted Train and in that series I liked Spirits of Charon and Frozen in Time. They also made Medium Detective that I bought but haven't played yet.
Who are the people in the fog? Are they Zombies, Vampires, Cursed People or Normal Folks? I want to know. Show less

Tales of Terror Fog of Madness is the fifth game in the series. In Fog of Madness you play the game as Ann Sparrow. An Investigative Journalist with “True Stories” magazine. Ann has heard stories of the mysterious Island of Fog and wonders why no one has returned from previous expeditions to the island. You contact Paul Fischer a tour guide who agrees to take you to the island even though he refuses to set foot on the “cursed island” himself. A sudden storm and turbulent waters are the last thing you remember before waking up and being greeted by Mr. Fogg who tells you that he rescued you and that you will be safe as long as you follow the rules. I guess the primary rule for you is to escape the castle and get away from Mr. Fogg as quickly and as safely as possible. Along the way you will meet others and you must figure out who you can trust and who is not what they seem. Will you be able to escape the Island of Fog and save Paul Fischer?
The HOP scenes were my favorite part of the game and although many were revisited, they were a bit different the next time around. I enjoyed the beauty of the HOPS in contrast to the rather dark castle and the general scenery. As much as I loved the HOPS I found the puzzles a bit confusing and skipped many of them because I didn’t understand how to solve them.
All in all Fog of Madness is a very good game and one that I have enjoyed playing. Some might think the action is a bit slow and yes, there is some back and forth but that doesn’t bother me at all. We all had differing taste when it comes to games and not everyone will feel the same as I do. Remember, I personally enjoyed the game but as always, please try the demo to see what you think. Happy gaming! Show less

I really enjoyed this game. The storyline is quite interesting. The HOG's puzzles were good because they needed other scenes to complete the final puzzle. The graphics and colors were excellent. I have played each of the "Tales of Terror" series and this one was just as good.

This game is so easy you could complete it blindfolded! Not only is this a short game you can complete in about 2 hours or so (3 short chapters) but it also has every cliche HOPA world tasks imaginable. Jug of magical oil to remove 30 years of rust and decay, check. A rusty dull knife that gets discarded after one use once it's sharpened, check. A random item that's been sewn into a pillow, obvious check. A Broken lens that apparently is the standard size for every lens ever made, check, and another check because it's always just a single lens that's cracked. Cobwebs you just can't bring yourself to remove by hand even though you fear for your life, giant check. Wax from a candle to remove because nobody ever uses a candlestick to catch the dripping wax, check. (because the candlestick is always used in the HOS) Flint & Steel to light something just before finding a modern-day lighter, check (usually requiring oil, fuel, fluid and/or a wick). A flashlight with old batteries and/or bulb, check. Important and useful tools discarded only to realize you could have used it in the very next scene, double, check!
Have you ever noticed that when you use an item that gets discarded after it's maiden voyage, that the item just goes poof! and completely disappears into oblivion, even though you haven't moved? Where did it go? Did it join my sock in sock heaven? Did a random animal steal it while I wasn't looking only to hold it hostage until the next random, unsuspecting HOPA player comes along? Will I find the hammer that went, poof! buried in the dirt on the next game I play? Will the saw that just went, poof! show up in the bonus chapter entangled in vines with thorns the size of tyrannosaurus claws? Is there a HOPA cleptomaniac that has an entire shed filled with these discarded items, laughing hysterically as they watch me risk life and limb to find the correct, sturdy hand and footholds to climb my way up a cliffside after falling because I just had to have that backpack slightly out of reach? Would I have this much time to think of all these random thoughts if the game hadn't been so easy and predictable?...check!
The Hidden Object Scenes are downright boring and most of them are the same type. You'll find 4 items to place onto their Silhouetted Shapes that will open the List of items to find. The Silhouetted items are impossible to miss because the cursor turns into a hand when you scan across the items needed. The scenes are repeated shortly afterward with a Matching Pairs HOS. In this CE version, most of the HOS have a Morphing Object, I say most because when the scene is repeated, there aren't any morphs available, and there are no alternate puzzles offered.
The Mini-Games are rather easy for the most part, even though some are available in a Normal or Hard difficulty mode. One of the achievements available to earn is for completing 18 Super Puzzles. This intrigued my interest enough to purchase this game (on a sale of course) but I have completed 2 of the 3 chapters and have yet to see a "super" puzzle. The Hidden Signs claim that finding them will unlock Bonus Content, so hopefully, the super puzzles are still to come?? Below are brief descriptions of some of the games you'll encounter during the demo:
1-Unlock the handcuffs by dragging the hairpins.
2-Turn all of the tiles red in a limited amount of moves.
3-Use directional arrows to move tokens to their matching slots.
4-Light the correct tiles according to the clue, 1 may affect others.
5-Swap portraits to their matching silhouettes on the wall.
6-Swap adjacent disc portions to complete the image.
7-Move food items into the correct compartments.
8-Light the correct squares on the grid by selecting +,-,x
9-Drop all skeletons off the board in a swap type Match 3 game.
10-Draw a line between each matching gem without crossing the lines.
This Collector's Edition version has 8 Wallpapers, 8 Concept Art pictures, 6 Music Soundtracks, 15 Achievements to earn, 32 Hidden Signs (which unlock Bonus Content), 14 Hidden Object Scene Morphing Objects, 3 Main Chapters +Bonus Chapter and a built-in Strategy Guide.

There isn't much going for this in the area of collectibles which are quite lacking. You have 36 collectible drawings that are like sketches to be found in scenes. There is no indicator for these, just a pop out tab that lets you know when you have found them and how many...another drawback to modern CE standards. You can, however, find their locations in the back of the SG. It is indicated you have to find these in order to open up a bonus content, whatever that is, I don't know because I am not going to be purchasing this as a CE.
It is great to see more hos being included, but they were not all that impressive. You have morphs in the hos, except when they are repeated and they have an indicator in the upper right hand corner of your screen to alert you as to when you find them. The hos are repeated, which I do not care for and although I did enjoy placing the items in the inventory bar to open up a list of items, it was a real letdown that you have to match pairs in some of the hos. It was not interesting and took no time to find those pairs at all. They could have certainly put more effort into this.
For me, there were too many puzzles, though they were spaced at times. I don't care to be spending demo time with them and for the most part don't care for them, anyway, so skip many of them.
The graphics were dark at times and gameplay was mediocre. Although I did complete what I thought to be a short demo, I found myself becoming bored with the game. You have some of the same tasks that you have seen many times before and the usual going back and forth, though I did not find that to be excessive. I really enjoyed blasting a lock open with a firecracker and lighting it with a smoldering pipe....now that was different and humorous...also ridiculous, as many tasks are.
Overall, I didn't dislike the game, but definitely do not think it is worth a CE price. More generosity should have been generated in this edition and because of the lack of Extras, I will wait for the SE. Show less

The Game was OK but nothing spectacular. I expected much more. I didn't realise the Morphing objects were hidden in the Hidden Object Junk piles until almost half-way through the Game! They could have told us this from the beginning ... so I missed most of them. NOT worth a Collector's Edition at all. Wouldn't play it again either because it's just too boring.
I don't recommend this game.
