Reviews do matter to me and I base a lot of my decisions on other reviewers' comments, whether positive or negative; and I deeply respect everyone's opinions--some reviewers go into great detail about the mechanism of the game, game-play, and whatnot. I appreciate the time they have taken to do so. For me, what I like in a good game are as follows: the strategy, game-flow; wonderful graphics/scenery, music, and a decent storyline. It wasn't too long ago when all that was out there were demons and witches--muddy, murky, and depressing scenery with too much of the occult theme. This game is visually lovely and not as dark (so far) as I have played in the past. The music is very good. Right now the mini-games/puzzles seem to be outnumbering the HOS, but no matter. They are very cleverly done and thought-provoking; and when the HOS do appear, they're not bad.
Compared to the previous game I played, this game is a breath of fresh air! I have to agree with Skullfun. I'm finding this game to be very exciting. Though it's not the perfect game, the fact is I'm not bored and I'm not rushing to finish it. It's a game that does have an interesting storyline--corny and typical, but intriguing.
The neat thing is when collecting multiple items to complete a task, you can still use what you have in your inventory rather than wait until you collect say all three items. This way it eliminates clutter in your inventory. There is a method to Mad Head Games madness, and I'm liking it! I'm almost half-way in to this SE version of Fright Chasers: Soul Reaper, and I am enjoying myself immensely, and that's what matters to me the most!
For your map, you have a cell phone which I love, love, love! Speaking of cell phones, when this one rings, you had better answer it, or that thing will ring for an 'eternity!'
Gadgets can be redundant; Pennmom36 is right about that, but in this case, I don't mind the camera feature. Also, using the cell phone as a map is truly clever! And, oh, I was able to track down an address and inputting it into the GPS--cool, cool, cool! Mad Head Games, bravo! The phonebook and list was right-on devs!
The game-flow is SPOT-ON and so far it's been smooth sailing. True, there could be better instructions here n' there, and the storyline is pretty much your typical whodunit, but we shoiuld be used to it by now, or at least I am.
I suggest you try the demo first and see for yourselves. We've all got our own tastes--and we can always agree to disagree. For me, this game is wonderful, and I highly recommend it. Show less

Wow! I thought Fright Chasers: Forced Exposure was exceptional and this next chapter of Fright Chasers is an awesome sequel for fans of this popular series. The investigation begins when you receive information in an email concerning several people in the town of Glenville who have been reported murdered by someone or something that uses a supernatural medallion which burns victims to pure ash. Get on your Harley and travel to Glenville and don't forget your Paranormal Camera that reveals ghostly clues because your going to need it for this fast paced mystery adventure. As you proceed in your investigation you encounter a woman named Joanna who eventually shares some disturbing facts in a newspaper article about a train accident which took place in 1899 that reportedly claimed the lives of five people. The encounter with Joanna is brief and leaves you not only suspicious of Joanna but curious to reveal several unanswered questions regarding the accident. You soon realize that Joanna and the other four characters central to your investigation didn't die in the train accident. But how can they be alive after more than a hundred years later, are they immortal? The only person who can provide answers is the crow masked protagonist known as the Soul Reaper. After more intense research you learn that the Soul Reaper is your number one suspect in the Glenville murders and the targets are the five individuals who were aboard the train crash of 1899. Is it possible that one of these five people could be the Soul Reaper? Perhaps....but what is the motive for killing them? Travel back in time to 1899 and board the train to question these five passengers and return to the present day hopefully with the answers you need to figure out what caused this intriguing mystery in order to solve the case!
This is a fascinating and frightening mystery that kept me on the edge of my seat throughout the entire 5 hours of the main game and another hour for the bonus game. It has incredible twists and subplots that will surprise even the most seasoned sleuths! I was buried alive in a coffin, knocked out cold, and even kidnapped during the course of this thriller. It's truly an epic experience and just when you think you absolutely know who the actual protagonist is, your shocked to find out that you have been wrong all along....
I highly recommend this installment of Fright Chasers and it definitely exceeded my expectations. Worthy of Editor Choice award and five stars. Cheers!

As one reviewer noted, none of us rate a game the same way, although we rate the same factors. With any story we read or listen to, we bring our individual experience. It's why this same story line is never the same, for each storyteller is different.
The actual story has been told (quite well) in another review, and for me, it was the back and forth between the present and 1899 that added a layer of complexity to the tale. It's done very well as a story, meaning it does not strain between the past and the present. All of the tasks, hidden object scenes, and the mini- puzzles relate to the scenes. I don't think the camera as gadget is over used but in general, I don't care for gadgets.
I don't purchase any game without playing the demo. I've learned my lesson, even with developers and series that are favorites. As always, enjoy the play. Show less

I was caught up in the adventure and the mystery. I wanted to find out how the Enigmatist Club fit into the 1899 train derailment. 15 hops.

I've learned to not go just by reviews.
I just bought a five star game without testing. So sorry I did.

I'm not even adverse so much to the same old same old if the storyline was strong and there were more diverse actions and dialogue throughout and if the mini-games had better instructions and if there were a lot more hidden object scenes. There were very few HO scenes in this semi-short game!
This was just boring!

I've said before that I dislike gimmicky contraptions, even though in some games they actually serve some purpose such as, for example, disabling a lock or finding an invisible object. However, the camera gimmick in this game seems to serve no purpose whatsoever except to find "supernatural" glowing things floating in the air. Do you do something with the glowing things once you've photographed them? Nope, not that I could tell.
There's also the unhelpful, "I know I can figure this out," and "What could I possibly do here?" responses when what you need is an actual hint. What I figured out that I could possibly do was quit the demo and avoid any other Fright Chasers games. Show less

Yep that stupid Camera feature has returned to reveal items which cannot be seen by the naked eye, er I'm sorry "supernatural elements" Not only does this camera eagle-eye exactly the same number of items each time, but it's also somehow able to capture incriminating video footage of the bad guy doing his bad guy thing! (hey, everyone needs a hobby right) The bigger question is, why are we searching for the paranormal for free when we could solve every cold-case known to mankind? JFK-I've got that video! Where's Jimmy Hoffa-Who's Jack-the-Ripper-Who's the Zodiac Killer-Did DB Cooper survive the jump-Is Tupac really alive-Who tainted the Tylenol-What really happened on the boat when Natalie Woods died-did a giant meteorite kill the Dinosaurs???....I'm just saying...
The Hidden Object Scenes are mostly Multiple Item Finds such as "find 6 gems" but there are also Related Pair Finds, Sketch Picture Finds, and a Story Related HOP where you are tasked with finding 2 Symbols per Paragraph on a concept art drawing. In the Collector's Edition version, each HOP has a Morphing Object to find, (with the exception of the smaller Zoom Zone HOP's) and you can re-play the HOP's in the extra's section to pick up a morph you may have overlooked.
The Mini Games are extremely easy, one of the tile swap games was solved by simply making one swap! I prefer puzzles that you have to tinker with such as adjusting levels, setting dials etc, but all of these games seem to be swap type or move along a line type. Below are brief descriptions of some of the games you'll encounter in the demo:
1) Rotate 4 tiles to create the Fright Chasers logo.
2) Move tiles to correct rows according to clue.
3) Select the matching crack shapes to break.
4) Select Harp strings in the correct order according to clue.
5) Drag gem arms to point at their matching color slots.
6) Align 3 slider buttons to the center row.
7) Arrange parts to replicate the clue shown.
8) Rotate 3 discs to allow access to the scroll under them.
9) Play the melody on the piano according to the clue.
The Collector's Edition version has 4 Wallpapers, 5 Concept Art pictures (with before/after slider bar) 10 Music Soundtracks, 12 Achievements to earn (same achievements offered in all MHG's, some available in 3 categories) 19 re-playable Hidden Object Scenes, an Ultimate Hidden Object Puzzle, 31 Treasure Hunt items, 11 Collectible Case File Cards (unlock Diary once collection is complete) 30 Hidden Spirals, 30 Scene Morphing Objects, 19 HOP Morphing Objects, 5 Main Chapters +Bonus Chapter and a built-in Strategy Guide.
