Can the past be changed? This is the opening question at the beginning of The Keeper of Antiques Shadow from the Past that is the fourth game in the series. As always you play the game as Alexandra Anderson who is now the Keeper since your Uncle Paul retired and passed the torch to your capable hands. The beginning cutscene in the game shows you and your parents on the way to the Hilltown Winter Festival in 1985 when there is the car accident that took the lives of your parents. Flash forward to 2017 and you are sitting at the computer when you receive an urgent call from Uncle Paul letting you know that someone has broken into the Antiques Shop that contains the artifacts. When you arrive at the shop you find that it has been vandalized and Uncle Paul is being held in the back room. Unfortunately the door has been vandalized by the culprit. Will you be able to save your uncle and keep the artifacts safe?
Although many gamers will find the graphics to be “old School,” I happen to enjoy the artistic style of games from this developer. The one complaint that I have is the lag time between scene changes. It is not as bad as having a black screen because now graphic pops up while the scene is changing. The lag time seems negligible and doesn’t bother me over much as it is quick and I am used to seeing it these games. There is an interactive map that I appreciate since the developer gives us a gold star when we have found all of the extras in a particular location. No gold star and you should take another look to see what you missed. As is the case in all of the Keeper of Antiques games you have the Keeper Tool that will be used to help you see things that are not readily visible. The Tool lives on the side of your UI and will jiggle and sparkle until you realize that it must be used.
The HOPS in this game are excellent being well-designed and most have some interactive. One scene in particular almost had me switching to the alternate matching game that is available if you would rather not search for items. Although there is variety in the HOPS many of them are the standard list type that I prefer. The Puzzles are very good but most are what I consider easy but there are some that are a bit more challenging and I had to think a bit more to solve them. I enjoy the puzzles in this game because I dislike a game that has too many “brain drain” puzzles.
If you enjoy the CE version of a game, this one includes Morphing Objects, Collectibles that will complete five collections, and 36 puzzle pieces that will be used to complete several jigsaw puzzles once all of the pieces are found. The game includes the standard extras that are found in all CE games. IMHO, this developer gives us a lot of extras that make this a great CE a great value.
The Keeper of Antiques series is a favorite of mine and Shadows from the Past is a game I have enjoyed playing. Since I like the series the game was an instant purchase for me. The story becomes more interesting after the demo as we learn more about the culprit and what he is searching for that is so important. The game has moved fairly quickly for me and held my interest as I played, Even though I really like this game, as always, please try the demo to see if this is a game you will enjoy. Happy gaming! It's winter time at Elefun - again! This is their second Christmas game, released in midst of summer; we see a lot of snow heaps and Christmas knick-knack. Of course it could be that they fell prey to the infamous time machine of which this story tells ;)
We (Alexandra) are off to the Winter Festival in Hilltown and look forward to the big snowman contest. It's the 18th of December 1985, we are just five and sit in the back seat, whilst dad is driving and mommy just took a picture. Suddenly, a WW2 spy out of The Third Man pops up spookily in the middle of the icy road. The car swerves and slides ...
It was the very car crash that killed Alexandra's parents.
The WW2 spy is the scientist Mr. Kutcher. He worked on a time machine and had tried for some time to get in contact with the Andersons. They possess a magical item which he dearly wishes to buy or to borrow, since it is the last lacking part of his invention. He had written polite letters and gotten rude answers from Patrick Anderson. So he mindlessly tries to flag down their car and causes havoc. In the throng of events, Kutcher's invention is confiscated as “dangerous artifact” by uncle Paul, and Kutcher ends up in the mental asylum. Who can blame him for becoming a vengeful "mad scientist"?
Kutcher has of course not given up yet his dream to make his device functional. Like the current POTUS he believes in “alternative reality” and that all will be for the greater good. Hence, after 32 years, he breaks out of the asylum, into the Keeper's archive, to retrieve his time machine.
For once we don't have to save the world, only our family, that is, uncle Paul, our parents and our own self in the age of five. How does it feel to meet our long ago deceased parents? to encounter the little girl we once were?
Although they did reuse some scenes from former games, HOPs are entertaining, varied, themed and cleverly integrated into the story, sometimes spread out over whole rooms. As always they contain on notes or screens some background information.
The bonus chapter is losely related but not necessary for the story; kindly read my review of the CE, if you want to know the details. However for this game I'd recommend nevertheless the CE version, alone for the 22 outstanding soundtracks. There are even five bonus tracks which are not used in the play. It's mostly funky, grooving, playful IDM. This is a game to dance through. Show less

This game moves fast and is full of little challenges that don't put you to sleep. It also has puzzles that are pretty good although I did skip one without regret. There are also a few HOs. Some that require finding things to open the lists. All were enjoyable, so far. There are three items to find in each scene that are a little too easy, but still fun. They don't stop the story while you hunt them down.
I'm 4 hours into the game and still had to force myself to quit.
I never stop to submit a review, but have read so many bad ones lately that I thought that I should complement a good one.
I usually have 3 games going at once and go back and forth when I want to take a break, but this game will hold my interest until I'm done.

Not sure why I didn't like it the first time I tried it, I must have just been in a bad mood or something.
Music was great and kept changing to fit the scenes, the mini-games and hidden object scenes were fun and the graphics as always were very colorful and well done! I'm really having a lot of fun playing this game!!

I really like a game that has maps or paths that you have to maneuver objects in labyrinths and this one had several. The hidden objects are standard or you could play matching. The one con I had for this game is the "loading" after every move -- the developers should figure out a way to eliminate this delay as it spoils the flow of the game.
I recommend this game!

i do love this series but uncle pauls causes so many problems and really needs to stay home out of harms way :) - the story line is a little twisted - why wouldn't you un-kill (if that is a word) your parents - the game was fun (as is all the others in this series).

Shadows From The Past was interesting enough to finish playing after the demo, but for me, most of the chapters are too drawn out and become borderline boring and tedious. There are a ton of "map" type puzzles where you guide a character or a car through a labyrinth of roads etc. that drove me crazy after about 3 in a row, and having repeated HOS back to back is clearly just filler material to stretch out the game and make it appear to be longer. I'd rather buy and play a game with 3 quality chapters than one with 5 chapters that are filled with meaningless, repetitive tasks, but that's just my personal preference. Overall, this isn't a bad game, in fact, I rather enjoyed the storyline which is the main reason I continued playing to get past the dull periods. The Bonus Chapter takes place shortly after the case has been solved, in current times, not the past, and you'll pick up the remaining 10 or so collectibles, puzzle pieces and morphing objects. Here's a recap of my review to help you decide which version, if either is right for you:
What if there was a device that allowed you to travel back to the past to right the wrongs and change the future. (other than Aunt Anna...think about it lol) What if that device existed, what if that device fell into the wrong hands? That device does exist! In fact, there are several devices that exist that are capable of extraordinary things, and those devices are safely guarded by The Keepers of Antiques! Alexandra Anderson is one of those Keepers sworn to maintain peace and safety throughout the world. The Antique Shop has been breached, and the Time Traveling Device has been stolen. Does Alexandra have enough willpower to follow the thief to 1985, without interfering with the accident that took her parents away from her?
Yes, we have yet another Gadget! The Keepers Tool has returned to deactivate or locate Keeper Artifacts, it's used a total of 14 times, 7-8 of which occur within the demo alone! Once again we have the "Loading" page between every zoom zone and new location, although they don't linger nearly as long as they have in the past, it's still annoying. If I had to guess at why this is the only developer that has this feature, I would say it may be due to the type of graphics used and size of the game because of the graphics, but I just don't know the answer. In the CE version, there are Morphing Objects, Jigsaw Puzzle Pieces to find and Collectibles in 5 different categories. The cursor changes to a hand if you come across one of them which makes them hard to miss at times, and for some reason, they are always lumped together in the same area.
There are a total of 20 Hidden Object Scenes compared to 25 Mini-Games making this game fairly even and should please fans of both puzzles and HOP's. There are Interactive List Finds, Silhouetted Shape Finds. Progressive Finds, and Keyword Finds. There are several smaller HOP's that EleFun always includes, where you are tasked with finding 5 Fragments located within the entire scene. Some of the HOP's have a small puzzle to solve, and there is an alternate Mahjong Matching game as well.
There are a total of 25 Mini-Games ranging from easy to medium in difficulty, most are just variations of older type puzzles. Some of the HO's have small puzzles to solve, but nothing to complicated. Below are brief descriptions of some of the games you'll encounter during the demo:
1) Swap image fragments to complete 3 portraits.
2) Complete those portraits by placing correct elements.
3) HOP puzzle: Rotate tiles to complete a continuous path of pipes.
4) Select fragmented symbols to recreate the symbol shown.
5) Place shaped pieces onto the pipe when the fire goes out.
6) Run over figures with the correct cube side using directional arrows.
The Collector's Edition version has 9 Wallpapers, 10 Concept Art Gallery pictures, 3 Screensavers, 21 Music Soundtracks (that's a lot of antique music!) 16 Achievements to earn, 31 Morphing Objects, 36 Jigsaw Puzzle pieces (reveals character's past with each puggle completed) 31 Collectibles in 5 categories (6-Old Good Hilltown, 6-Mad Scientist, 6-Young Keepers, 7-Christmas Spirit, 6-Legendary Artifacts) a Keepers Room (complete each collection to reveal the information about the plot) 5 Main Chapters +Bonus Chapter and a built-in Strategy Guide.

When I'm ready for a game to be over it's not a good sign. I found this on the boring side, with nothing new offered. It was also quite short, which in my case was a plus. The mini-games weren't challenging, and I'm really tired of using amulets to find hidden symbols. I'm recommending the game for new players. They should like it okay,
