A New Hidden Expedition Game! Love this series! Eipix is one of my favorite game developers. Nice game with good graphics. This game has a variety of hidden objects: riddles; word association pictures and lists. The mini-puzzles are familiar but some are quite challenging -- you can always skip. I have played all Hidden Expedition games and I enjoy the "fact discs".
I recommend this game!

No, this is not the Hidden Expeditions we have enjoyed in the past, but it wasn't all that horrible either. I rather enjoyed playing it. I'm sure there are new developers and they try to add something new to keep a series fresh. In this case they should have stayed with the tried and proven games.
Graphics were well done. Colors were beautiful and the outdoor scenes were picturesque. Voice overs were ok. Wish they had stayed with the old Sam. I've grown accustomed to that voice and like it. Poor Sam must have had a failed face-lift. He didn't look well. One thing I don't understand is why there were no voices when HQ phoned. It happened at the beginning of the game, but after a short bit they turned into bars. The music and effects went along with the action in the scene.
The hidden objects were okay as well. Nothing to shout home about, but they were well done. I detested the mini games! They were so convoluted and way past my patience level. Most of the time I had no idea what to do until the computer did them for me after I hit skip. The map is a great help. There is a lot of back and forth and without that map, I'd still be wandering the jungle.
I'm sure others will go into depth about the story, so I'll not bore you with my version. The story was typical. I have to admit I did get lost and had to figure out what was going on, but in the end it came together. Normally I really enjoy the fact cards. In this it seemed they were just trying to throw something at me so there would be a fact card. Many had nothing to do with the story or the scene.
Yes, this was a weak effort and kind of a disappointment to get this quality from Eipix. It isn't as bad as some I've played, but there is a lot of room for improvement. Give the demo a try and see if you like it. Show less

I became so bored playing this game that it took me a whole day to finish playing the demo! For the first half of the demo, I spent the entire time running back and forth between scenes one and two, solving simplistic puzzles that apparently couldn't be solved by Dr. Zoey Right, one of H.E.L.P's best archaeologists! Once again Sam was just standing there, doing absolutely nothing, until once again, something happens to Sam. He is supposed to be the top dog at the agency but for the life of me, I can't understand why he got promoted a few games back because he gets foiled by the bad guy every time!?? If he doesn't get foiled, he gets hurt and becomes MIA. I was also completely surprised that the demo wrapped-up most of the storyline and revealed key features that would have made the plot more epic, had they not (you'll know what I mean when you get there)
Once again, the CE version bling consists of 36 Collectible Rune Symbols, one in each scene. Once again, the signs are large and in charge, even if you forget to look for them, you won't miss them because they stick out like a sore thumb. In their defense, it's a bit hard to hide a Mayan Rune symbol in a modern day junkyard scene or classic diner, but on the other hand, they could have used a little creativity and pulled it off. The CE version bling also includes a Morphing Object, yet, this dev has already abandoned the Morphs in each scene that they surprised us with, and once again, only included them within the HOS.
The Hidden Object Scenes are better than the mini-games in my opinion, and I really enjoyed the Progressive, Interactive HOP inside the toy shop. It was one of the most innovative HO's I've ever seen created by this particular dev and was somewhat challenging with out of the box thinking required. There are several Keyword find types, as well as Silhouetted Shaped item finds, and in the CE version, each HOS has a Morphing Object to find.
The Mini-Games are a bit scarce and not all that impressive, the HOS definitely outshined the puzzles on this game, which is something I rarely say nowadays. Below are brief descriptions of some of the games you'll encounter during the demo:
1-Click & drag glyphs on the right to the partial glyphs on the left.
2-Move cross-hairs to each incoming ring and hold to navigate.
3-Merge tiles so the combined numbers equal the sum of 10.
4-Select a sequence of moves to navigate w/o getting caught.
5-Align road sections to navigate the car, stopping to get fuel.
6-Select directional arrows to rotate cogs to match the key shape.
The Collector's Edition version has 8 Wallpapers, 8 Concept Art pictures, 9 Music Soundtracks, 8 Movie Videos, 16 re-playable Mini-Games, 14 re-playable Hidden Object Scenes, 36 Hidden Rune Symbols, 16 Collectible Fact Cards, 12 Hidden Object Scene Morphing Objects, 24 Hidden Jigsaw Puzzle Piece Souvenirs in the Souvenir Room, 13 Achievements to earn, 4 Main Chapters +Bonus Chapter and a built-in Strategy Guide.

Your journey in Eipix's 17th Hidden Expedition edition: The Altar of Lies begins in Honduras, where you and your H.E.L.P. team are sent to retrieve an ancient valuable artifact. Upon your arrival, you discovered that the site has been compromised and you find yourself being accused of being a double agent! Can you out smart a group of villains who call themselves "the Noble Scoundrels" and find a way out of this messy situation and clear your name after your framed for allegedly murdering Sam?
Like with many of Eipix’s long-running franchises, the Hidden Expedition games as of late started to all blend in together and many fans are taking notice. This latest sequel, The Alter of Lies, feels like every other Hidden Expedition games over the past two (2) years; an exotic locale, an ancient artifact, and a group of strong-headed mafia members. Even the rich backstory is not enough to save the game from its struggles with illogical storyline and a very dull concept. Developers may want to think about implementing some "out-of-the-box" thinking and create more innovative story lines if they want players to retain their interest in this once popular series...
One of the few things that keep the game going for me was the stunning visuals. The wonderful artwork and graphics perfectly convey the beauty of Honduras and the Amazon rain forest. There is always something new to look at in each scene and the subtle, yet effective special effects help bring these scenes to life. Still, Hidden Expedition: The Altar of Lies could really use some more out-of-the-box thinking when it comes to the gameplay. As of now, the series is plagued with predictable HOPA elements. The adventure part is the same-old cookie-cutter type, the puzzles are overly simple and uninspired, and the hidden object scenes are low on challenge, although they might be the most enjoyable aspect of the gameplay because the storyline is utterly illogical and uninspiring.
Hidden Expedition: The Altar of Lies clocks in just around the four-hour mark, and the bonus chapter adds another 40 minutes of disappointing playtime. The CE bling is also the SOS: a strategy guide, wallpapers, concept art, soundtracks, videos, re-playable hidden object scenes, re-playable puzzles, achievements, collectibles, morphing objects, and a souvenir room. This edition isn't CE worthy IMHO and I used a free game coupon for this SE edition. I now own all seventeen episodes of this series and if the next addition to the series is an improvement I may renew my interest in Hidden Expedition...we'll just have to wait and see what the Eipix team does to make this series unique again. Cheers!

Why can't you go back to just simple problem solving. (I'm thinking of The Amazon Game.) Having to go from screen to screen and then back again (several times) is NOT fun. The more back and forth there is, the faster I lose interest.
Can't find a simple HO game anymore. Haven't purchased a game in over a year
I don't recommend this game.
