Beyond: The Fading Signal is the third game in the Beyond series and we find ourselves of on a great adventure to save planet Earth. Years ago you and your twin brother Reggie were playing in his special tree house when he vanished in a beam of light. Now you are an adult and you’ve spent years following every lead you can to find your brother. You recently received a cryptic message from Reggie that gives you hope that he is still alive and has you returning to your long abandoned home and his tree house to find the clues he left for you. You wonder what you will find there and will it really lead to Reggie?
Beyond: The Fading Signal is an excellent game and one that held my attention as I played through the well-constructed HOPS and entertaining puzzles. Some of the puzzles were easy and there were some that I have never seen before. Even though I loved the mix of styles and the themes in the HOPS, I found the Puzzles to be some of the best and, at least for me, the most difficult that I have found in recent games.
If you want a highly entertaining sci-fi game, then this might be the game you are looking for. I loved it and had to pull myself away only when real-life called. Usually I will take a day or two to play a game but not with this one. It was exciting and I felt like I was truly involved in the action as I played. I hope to see more games in the Beyond series as this one really grabbed me. As always, please try the demo to see if Beyond: The Fading Signal is a game you will enjoy. Happy gaming! Show less

This is episode 3 in Madhead’s amazing Beyond series and just like the previous games, Light Advent and Star Descendant, this latest release is another out-of-this-world sci-fi masterpiece. Madhead developers really showcase their best work for this genre in the field of HOPA gaming.
Amelia has been searching for her brother Reggie since separated during childhood when he was abducted by an alien race known as the “Galactic Force” while playing in their treehouse. Years have gone by and now Amelia is grown. She decides to visit the home she grew up after receiving a letter which she believes was recently written by her missing brother. When she arrives at the now abandoned family home she encounters a confrontation with a sinister being (aka eradicators) that frightens her into fleeing to a nearby hotel. There she learns from Nico (an elite member of the Galactic Force) that her brother Reggie is not only alive but is a Sentinel for the Galactic Force, chosen to defend mankind from a deadly contagion whose aim is to destroy everything by consuming planet Earth. Now you must find Reggie by traveling into space aboard a space station and rescue him; for he is the only one who knows how to stop this devious destructive plot. This will be a monumental under taking since the Eradicators (robot agents of the Contagion) will go to extreme lengths to stop you from progressing in the adventure. Your only hope is to journey with Reggie, contact the Elders of the Galactic Union to use their omnipotent Crystal weapon power and convince them to help you defeat the Eradicator robots and bring the crystal weapon to the heart of the contagion fleet and destroy their HORRID QUEEN!
From the get go, I was absolutely hyped about this latest Beyond edition and it really exceeded my expectations. The storyline itself is entertaining enough on its own, but it also helps that Beyond: The Fading Signal has a top-of-the-shelf production. The visuals in the game are totally gorgeous; the artwork is creative, the vibrant colors are attractive, and even the animations are flawless. Moreover, the music comes in a nice variety that adds elements of excitement and suspense to the game. It is a no-brainer to go for the Collector’s Edition for this game; having also included a great bonus chapter, strategy guide, wallpapers, soundtracks, character biographies, achievements, collectibles, morphing objects, re-playable puzzles, and re-playable hidden object scenes. This is one of the best games offered in 2018 and I hope everyone who enjoys this series will have a blast playing this one. I highly recommend it for players of every level. Cheers! Show less

There are, of course, small things that unless you're paying close attention to small details you wouldn't notice. Like in the beginning there's a picture of you and your "brother". You talk about being twins but the photo shows a toddler and a preschooler. You also don't find it strange that you guys had a pretty high tech tree house.
However, it's still a really new storyline. It seems in the last few years everything HOG is about ghosts, asylums, demons or detectives. As with the other Beyond games you are helping to protect Earth from attack by hostile aliens. Even though they all have that same basic plot, each one is different with new games, puzzles and stories. New characters that are not related to the last game's characters and if you don't get every single one in the series you don't feel like you HAVE to go buy it to understand where the story is going but you'll WANT to just to have them all!!!
I can't wait for the CE to come out so I can get that too! Thanks MadHead Games for another in this series! Show less

The Fading Signal was my least favorite story out of the series. I didn't find the plot to be all that unusual, and it certainly pales in comparison to the original storyline which was an amazing game. I was disappointed in the graphics more than anything, which seemed large and lacked detail. I realize the "targeted" audience is aging, but not all of us have vision issues, and I'm sure everyone still appreciates quality graphics. I don't understand why computer games can't be as awesome as they are on console games?
In the Collector's Edition version, there are 7 remaining Galactic Signs to find, 7 Location Morphs and 4 Hidden Object Scene Morphing Objects in the Bonus Chapter which is a sequel that takes place immediately after the story with the same 3 characters. There is a Treasure Hunt Room available where you search for 29 objects, 1 in each location. In my opinion, this is a fairly short game, I judge the length of the game by the number of pages in the Strategy Guide and there are 6 pages in the first chapter, 5 pages in the second, and 7 pages in chapters three, four and the Bonus Chapter as well. I haven't played the original game in quite a while, but I really thought it was a much longer game? Here's a recap of my review to help you decide which version if either, is right for you:
We are not alone in this universe, but are we ready for the truth? The truth is, our galaxy is plagued by a destructive force called The Contagion. A deadly contagion that destroys entire worlds, a contagion that's heading towards Earth! There's only one thing that can save the Earth from total annihilation, your twin brother Reggie... but unfortunately, he was abducted many years ago!
Another game, another gadget! At least this gadget seems more credible than a seashell used to talk to the elements. I think I'd find it less credible if I WERE able to communicate with an alien species without some type of technology, so I'll give this gadget a pass. Other than puzzles that are too simplistic and HO's that are unimpressive, the only complaint I have is that for an alien-themed game, there aren't very many aliens??? I want to catch glimpses of little grey aliens scurrying through the cornfields, I want to walk down the sidewalk looking into passer-by's eyes to see if they turn into lizard eyes when they blink, or just a black void of soullessness. Yes, I do watch too much sci-fi!
The Hidden Object Scenes are just average and could have been a tad more exciting. They are varied with Interactive List finds, Silhouetted Shape finds that uncover fragments, Keywords in Sentence (no voiceovers during the story part on some of them?) and Returning Misplaced Items into the scene. The only one I found to be fairly interesting was a Keyword find towards the end where you had to find Zodiac Constellations during a story, but most were as plain Jane as they come. In the Collector's Edition version, each Hidden Object Scene has a Morphing Object to find, and you can pick up Morphs you may have missed by re-playing the HOS in the CE extra's section. You can also earn up to 3 stars and improve your accuracy.
The Mini-Games are very easy-breezy and offer very little challenge which is really a shame. I did, however, like the fact that most of the puzzles were sci-fi theme related. Below are brief descriptions of some of the games you'll encounter during the demo:
1-Place torn photo fragments into the highlighted spaces x2.
2-Rotate the rings to match constellations shown x3.
3-Swap planets to their matching highlighted orbit slots.
4-Click through symbols until they match the symbol on the base x4.
5-Click on symbols from the least intricate to the most complex.
6-Swap tiles to connect identical symbols and paths.
7-Click on lights until they all turn green.
8-Click on the elliptic symbols on the glass to open the container.
The Collector's Edition has 8 Wallpapers, 7 Concept Art pictures with before/after slider bar, 12 Cover pictures (4 from each titled game) 36 Profile Icon pictures (characters) 10 Music Soundtracks, 9 Achievements to earn (most with 3 categories) 19 re-playable Hidden Object Scenes (with the ability to pick up any missed HO Morphs & Trophies) 29 Treasure Hunt Item Scenes, 48 Morphing Objects (19 Hidden Object Scene Morphs-29 Location Morphs) 29 Hidden Galaxy Icons, 4 Main Chapters +Bonus Chapter and a built-in Strategy Guide, enjoy saving the planet!

I liked the different setting - modern & space related instead of ancient dungeons & castles. The storyline was OK and the game flows well with a few little "what the?" moments but overall I enjoyed the game mainly due to the different graphics & setting.

I like the visual style; it is sci fi, but also feels retro futuristic with all these old tv sets and radios used for unconventional purposes. In this regard, it reminds me The Stranger Things series. The gameplay is rather simple, but sometimes you have really a lot of objects in your inventory at once. What I liked the most were "hidden place for object" instead of "hidden object" games, when you are supposed to put something back on its place. Full screen mini games are also big pro for me, as this way they feel more like a part of the story, and not something you do in order to push the game further. Show less

Sadly there just wasn't much that I found interesting enough to pull me into this game and I didn't even finish the trial. To be fair to fans of this developer, I suggest you give it a trial run to form your own opinion. Show less
