AM I DREAMING? Is Big Fish really offering an Adventure Game & an Escape the Room game all wrapped up into one incredibly entertaining game? A game that I have to use actual thought processes to navigate? Surely Beatrice has placed a spell on someone because this is all too good to be true, and YES, this was an instant purchase for me!
Who's Beatrice? That's a good question! All I know is that she's a terrifying Witch with a great sense of humor and she lived at the top of the Tower for years. No one has seen her for years so I mistakenly fell for one of her bewitching tricks and now I am at the top of the witch's tower trying to escape!
The goal is to search the room for inventory items and ingredients that you will need to make various potions, solve tricky puzzles, fix things that have been broken for many years, and outwit Beatrice who seems to be testing you rather than taunting you. Where's Beatrice? She's inside of a Potions & Spellbook which you will definitely need if you want to escape!
If you get stuck, click on the Question Mark on the Top Left Corner. This will show you all areas of interest by placing question marks on them but it will never tell you where to look. If you click on a specific Question Mark, you will get a more specific hint, but again, this game is designed to make you think about how to escape as if you were actually there, it's never going to tell you what to do, so if you don't like to problem solve, you won't like this game!
Eventually, you will be armed with your spellbook, and a cauldron to mix various potions (you'll have to decide which potion or spell is needed for each situation) I did have a little bit of difficulty at times, clicking on inventory items to use them, sometimes I had to click 2-3 times before they could be picked up (wait until the box they sit in turns white) but other than that, I had no issues and the graphics were set to "fantastic" on the settings page.
Now, I am under Beatrice's spell so I must continue my journey to escape this tower, but to tell you the truth, I have no desire to actually escape! Show less
I recommend this game!

I could not have possibly either enjoyed nor been able to progress in this game without the help of internet walkthroughs. By typing in the game name I found several step by step, scene by scene text and picture walkthroughs.
However I find I am still playing the game, as I still have to remember a chapter at a time as leaving before solving to the end of the level wipes out your progress on that scene leaving you having to repeat and redo any brainy stuff you have already achieved when you come back in. Printing out a walkthrough would be the easiest way and then you don't have to leave the game screen. I am playing an 'inbetween' strategy of only reading the walkthrough and then playing, leaving me still to have to work some things out as I forget a lot of it lol.
An extremely quizzical adventure of daring do to get out of the tower, with no hand holding other than as Pennmom said the 'areas of interest' by clicking the ? Its extremely difficult and takes a lot of pondering. This game will not be for everyone and would not have been for me without WT help, but it is very clever and I got so immersed I am really enjoying it. Show less

As a LONG time game player, going as far back as the birth of the home personal computer, I have seen the evolution of gaming, and I do appreciate many of the advances and changes that have taken place. That being said, there are some things that have changed, that I find to be not so good...too much hand-holding being one of them. The Tower of Beatrice reminds me of the Myst days, when an adventure game was just that...a true experience, with no guidance, no hints, nothing but experimentation and imagination. It is a beautiful throw-back to a simpler, but much more thought-provoking time in computer gaming.
I know not everyone will appreciate this type of game, but I am enjoying it immensely and would purchase any others like it. I highly recommend you give it a try, if you like solving puzzles and thinking outside the box! Show less

What you need to be aware of is that you cannot leave the level half way through without having to start again.
You can open another browser or print out a walkthrough which are available. There are question marks you can click on to highlight the area of search but basically you are on your own.
Your demo will go very quick which is why I suggest you look for walkthroughs first so you can get further in to the game.
This is a very good game and it is extremely challenging.
If you go into this prepared I think you will enjoy.

As a thief for hire, it can be a tricky life; sneaking around and finding ways to infiltrate any security measures in order to acquire whatever the contractor desires. No job seems as straightforward as the most recent one though, with a mysterious client wanting you to steal an old book from a decrepit tower. Simple enough, right? Wrong. It’s a book of recipes and it belongs to a powerful sorcerer who isn’t going to give it up so easily. This is The Tower of Beatrice!
That’s the premise of The Tower of Beatrice, the 2019 Xbox One puzzle adventure now available on Big Fish. A point-and-click experience that’ll really tax the brain but it’s a game that falls a tad short when compared to the many other offerings within the genre. But that doesn’t necessarily mean it’s bad.
The Tower of Beatrice sees the aforementioned thief trapped inside the tower, with only cunning wit and a book full of recipes to aid in escaping the dreaded place. There are six floors to work your way through and each one aims to offer a different atmospheric themed room to get your head around. Whilst on this journey to freedom, you’ll encounter a lot of strange beings and creatures, including a lovely old spider, a chilled-out devil and a massive ball-shaped thing that’s snoozing and blocking your path. There’s also some fun banter to be had with Beatrice, however the conversations are lacking depth and done via text only. It’s disappointing though that the dialogue occasionally doesn’t make sense, with mistakes in grammar seemingly slipping through the net in development.
Nevertheless, as is the norm for point-and-clickers, gathering items from these floors for the inventory will be the key aspect in finding solutions towards making progression. Life is made slightly easier by being able to cycle through all clickable spots by following the QUESTION MARKS, instead of searching every nook and cranny. As such, the acquisition of items is very simple, but what you do with them is the hard bit.
When it comes to using the stuff within the inventory, logic is the first port of call, like using a knife to slice open a bag. But the solutions won’t always make a lot of sense, so trial and error is then the best method – trying to interact with anything and everything. What’s quite cool though is that the book of recipes you’re stealing actually has useful potion ideas in it which will help to overcome various obstacles. For example, if you’ve got a fair few feathers at hand, some coal and have access to hot air, stick them all in the on-screen cauldron and it’ll give you a levitation potion.
In regards the puzzles, these do a decent job of testing the old grey matter as you attempt to correctly organise cogs, create colours by mixing paint, recognise and recreate patterns or shapes in order to problem solve, and more. A lot of the solutions to the puzzles are simply a matter of using information found around the room, which is perfectly fine as it’s still making you think, but there’s nothing groundbreaking concept-wise. The only issue I’ve had is the game sometimes failing to distinguish the correct answers to the problem at the first time of asking; it’s a real pain, especially when you aren’t sure you’ve even got it right, for it to then work when input again.
Let’s just say The Tower of Beatrice is a little rough around the edges on the technical front and the same can be said for the visuals. The designs of the rooms cannot be knocked as there’s real character in each floor to ensure they don’t feel samey, with one having an artistic vibe while another screams ‘torture room’, however the visual clarity is lacking and wouldn’t look out of place on the previous console generation. In the sound department, the background music is fairly repetitive without coming across as annoying, which is a blessing because you will hear the endless loops for quite a while.
Overall, The Tower of Beatrice manages to present itself as a cheap and mildly enjoyable point-and-click offering that’ll last a couple of hours. Sure, the puzzles aren’t overly adventurous and the inventory-based conundrums are lacking ingenuity, but there’s still enough here for a slightly challenging experience. Its strongest asset is having different themed rooms and a host of oddball characters to add a few memorable moments. On the flipside, it’s let down the most by the failure to recognize the correct solutions from time to time and it’s visually unimpressive for the current standards.
The Tower of Beatrice is worth considering if you’ve got a penchant for the puzzling point-and-click genre. Cheers! Show less

This game is lots and lots of fun, and though it requires some brain work, which is very appealing, the clues pretty well guide you along - and the solutions are sometimes found in the oddest places!
I'm off to buy this one right this second! And I suggest you do the same, even if you are a Beginner. Even more fun than "Leaves, The Journey" and "Varenje". Show less

The dialog is sprinkled with humor that lulls you into doubting your inner puzzle master's ability to spot and act on clues that are right in front of your eyes; you will solve one puzzle, then, as you pat yourself on the back, you will be filled with angst as you realize you've been duped.
This is a great game to play alone or with a friend to work out the tougher puzzles with (my husband and I played side-by-side on our laptops). It isn't a really long or short game...like Baby Bear said, it's just right.
Please, Big Fish, give us more of these! Other similar games you've given us include Leaves: The Journey, and Leaves 2: The Return...please give us more! Show less
