In the past year, Pixel Art has become one of my favorite go to games for when I have a bit of down time during the day. The game is so relaxing. I own every Pixel Art game since they’ve been released so I was delighted to find Pixel Art 5 this morning when I checked BFG. I replay the boards in every game to fill in the time until the next one is released.
Pixel Art 5 seems to have smaller boards and not as many of the larger more complicated ones that I’ve come to love, particularly those dealing with architecture. That being said there are still a few of those included, along with some automobiles. The majority though seem to be easier and not as detailed as some in previous versions of the game. Most of the boards can be completed fairly quickly so I don’t think it will take long to get through Pixel Art 5, and then I will simply go back and play the earlier games and await the next Pixel Art game release.
Pixel Art 5 is a game that can be enjoyed by most members of the family and it’s the perfect game for teaching some of the younger ones to paint by number. The boards can be increased in size so that the individual numbers cells are easy to fill. I mostly play Pixel Art when I want to relax and have some quiet time so some of the smaller boards in this game will be perfect to play in between projects. Although the game is perfect for me, as always, please try the demo to see if this is a game you will enjoy. Happy gaming! Show less

You start with small/easy drawings just to warm up; it gets more complicated with board #6 so you'll need to zoom in to read the numbers and drag the drawing around to cover all areas. You can only unlock 1 "page" of boards at a time, so I don't know what the future pages will hold; in past editions, they didn't get any simpler and you might need to exit a board in progress (no worries, it saves your work) and resume later. Time just flies by!
I have the previous editions and do a couple of boards per session; no more, just enough to wind down and relax.
Some might say the colors are flat, but I like that: it's easy on the eyes because I don't want bright/fluorescent colors as you really need to "stare" at the screen to do a good job.
This one goes into the "buy" pile! Show less

I have been waiting for this game to come out for a L-O-N-G time:) It is my stress relief type game that calms me down for sleep - well if I could stop playing it LOL
As a kid I did the "paint by numbers" pictures and this is way better - no spilled paint or brushes to clean!
Now if they could come out a bit quicker (Developer is up to 12 now) I'd be in my glory Enjoy :)
I recommend this game!

If you've ever completed a real paint by numbers picture (not a computerized version) you may recall how bright and colorful they were, with images of birds, cats, horses, peace signs, and even geckos. They always had vivid contrasting hues of purples, reds, blues, yellows, and greens side by side which made the completed works of art pop with color. They can still have realistic colored images, but most of these particular pictures just seemed to have very little contrast because the colors used were dull and too similar. I still enjoy these zen games I just wasn't crazy about most of these images, and then to my delight, I played Paint By Numbers which has only been released on Mac so far and those were the exact pictures and colors I was yearning for, colors that pop, and it is by the same developer! I think my zen-train just took a slight detour lol.

At first, I wasn't a Pixel Art fan because the demo portion mostly offers small puzzles with very few pixels and even fewer details. Once I purchased the original Pixel Art game and discovered that the puzzles became more intense after the demo, I was hooked and found it very relaxing and very zen. When I say intense, I just mean more intricate, because the puzzles don't actually require a lot of thought, but that's the beauty of it...it's totally Zen! The accompanying music is soothing with occasional nature sounds blended into the background to make the experience even more peaceful, with frogs and crickets chirping or the sounds of waves as they ebb and flow.
There's not a whole lot to have to figure out, it's about as uncomplicated and basic as it gets. Pixel Art is a computer version of Paint by Numbers. Each pixel has a number and you chose the corresponding color bubble from the palette (also numbered) on the right side, and you simply left click to fill in all the numbers with the correct color, you can hold the mouse button and swipe through large groupings as well.
There is a Slider Bar that allows you to zoom in & out (there's a "fit" tab as well) you can also move the entire page around by right-clicking and dragging. There is an auto-fill feature that will fill in large groups of pixels in a particular color by double-clicking, but that feature has to recharge after each use, besides, it's more satisfying to color them yourself. The last feature is a slider bar that allows you to change the color of the background, it really only allows you to change the colors in shades of grey or black. It would make more sense to have an entire color scale available on a paint by numbers game though, wouldn't it?
Keep an open mind, it isn't supposed to be a brain-burner kind of game. It's a very basic and rudimentary game that's just supposed to take you out of the hectic zone for a bit, and who knows, you may find yourself aboard the Pixel Art Zen Train too. I'll save you a seat!

This is not quite as good as the previous two games (Pixel Art 3 and 4) because it has fewer large, complicated pictures. I love the challenge of the more complex drawings, and the landscapes of #3 and #4 were better than the birds in #5. The flowers and such were still good, and the game was quite enjoyable! I just prefer more complex pictures with LOTS of colors.

Let's have some more pretty colors. Please keep making more games. Show less

Not as impressed with this one as I was with #'s 1 2 3 4 BUT already very impressed with #6 that I started a while ago, can't wait to get to #8 - don't know how everyone can get through these so fast other than they must have more than an hour to spare where as I don't.
