The bolts of lightning and the thunderous crackle in the stormy night I especially enjoyed. This Phantasmat is unique to the previous games in the series so that has caught some players off guard, but give it a chance as I think that this game has great merit. The storyline is well crafted, settings can be customized, the HO scenes were a lot of fun, and there are plenty of mini-games. Highly recommend... Show less

After playing a lot of games that weren't as good as others I can say this game is definitely one I will be replaying. After playing a lot of games that weren't as good as others I can say this game is definitely one I will be replaying. The premise of the game, saving a family member from an evil critter, has been done before, and will likely be done again. But then, don't we have movies that are all about Boy meets girl, boy loses girl, boy finds girl again and happy ever after? Sure we do. And we still watch them again and again. Good for movies, good for games. Now this game has a few twists though that set it apart from any I have played recently. At first, I was concerned that it forgot to ask me for a user name. And then, I thought it had started the game over again. But, it was just to make sure the game grabbed my attention and boy did it ever. I found the scary level to be very good. More hideously creepy than jump scare scary. But not too much. Graphics, voice overs, sounds, all very well done. There was a lot of cut scenes and my cursor would disappear until the scene was over, which frustrated me a bit, but only because I was so caught up in the game! And I skipped several of the mini games because I could not figure out how to make them work. Plus my mouse has a low battery and was too slow for me to get past some of the games. Next time I will be ready to take them on though. Great job on bringing back games that are top of the line, not just sliding quickly along an assembly line. I am anxiously awaiting the next one and hoping it is as good as this one. Show less

It's funny to me that previous posters think they know what Phantasmat is supposed to be about. It's about whatever the developer chooses! That said, I found the game to be entertaining from start to finish. So what if the creature isn't what you envisioned? The journey to stop it is what the game is all about. I found it just challenging enough to be entertaining. I always like the graphics that this series provides. The story line was common but again, so what? Some of the puzzles were a bit confusing as they didn't give any "info." That would be my only negative. Overall, I enjoyed it! Show less

This was a different kind of Phantasmat game but I enjoyed it. Favorite part was using the scalpel to open the bird's eye that had been sewn shut! Super creepy! The story was pretty good and the mini games were varied and fun. Overall lots of fun!

Phantasmat ISN'T supposed to be about a cheesy tree/vine red-eyed creature, Phantasmat is supposed to be about a phenomenon that never lets you leave a certain place, you try and try, but somehow end up right where you started until you begin to think that maybe you are dead! You don't know how you really got there in the first place, and why everyone you meet is behaving erratically. Phantasmat is supposed to be about a person who keeps having phantasmal visions that fill the player in with the necessary background story and eventually helps you come to terms with your new reality. Phantasmat isn't about reading a thousand loose pages of someone's diary conveniently laying around to explain the story! Phantasmat ISN'T supposed to be about an UNORIGINAL creature that doesn't want you to leave, phantasmat is an altered state of being, an alternate state of reality, NOT about things that go bump in the night!!!!
This cheesy, vine creature is utterly ridiculous, laughable, and so been there done that a zillion times. The graphics are horrible, dull, lifeless, unappealing. I can't even say it's a step backward because they had better graphics originally. The CE "Hidden Signs" are large and easy to spot. The worse thing about this game is that there are only 3 areas of activity per detailess scene, a zoom zone on the left, one on the right and one smack dab in the center. There's no detail to even look at, everything is drab, colorless and boring, no need to pause and take in the beauty of the scenery because there's nothing to look at! The original Phantasmat won a slew of awards (wbtw was by a different dev) and I urge this dev to take a break and play the original game and then go back to the drawing board and create a Phantasmal Phantasmat worthy of its namesake. I have given this game 3 stars for the sole purpose of keeping the series alive so that they can create a game with a storyline as amazing as I know it can be, (you have the resources and the talent, I know it's in there guy, find your Phantasmat!)
The Hidden Object Scenes were utterly horrific. The scenes are colorless shades of copper or blue and hazy. It's hard to tell where one object ends and the next begins because there's no definition, it's clearly in an attempt to make them more challenging, but that is NOT how a Hidden Object Scene should be! Items should be cleverly blended into the scenery
and, not unrecognizable because of poor graphics! The HOP's are usually layered with a few different types including Listed Item Finds, Multiple Object Finds, Silhouetted Shape Finds, Pictured or Sketched Item Finds, Combination Sketches where this plus that equals blank Finds and Morphing Object Finds. In the Collector's Edition version, 19 of the HOP's have a Morphing Object and there is an alternate Bubble Shoot Game available. (one of the CE achievements requires you to play the alternate Bubble Shoot game at least once)
The Mini-Games range from super-simplistic to practically mind-boggling, many of which simply have horrible directions. I don't mind mind-boggling as long as they aren't frustrating, in fact, I prefer games that require strategy or at least make you think about what you are doing rather than just solving them by memory because you have encountered that puzzle a million times before. There were very few puzzles offered here that were actually fun to solve, unfortunately. They aren't original, they aren't even that creative. Below are brief descriptions of some of the games worth mentioning:
1-Guide footprints through the grid by activating switches and rotating directional arrows.
2-Move each eyeball to their matching slots using bumpers and portals.
3-Guide the ball through the maze using directional arrows and rotating sections of the maze.
4-Position arrow tiles to point to the center by selecting buttons to rotate Locked or Unlocked tiles.
The CE Bonus Chapter delves into the background story of what happened with the Miners who first discovered the "creature" The BC is rather short in my opinion and includes 5 Mini-Games and 4 Hidden Object Scenes. You will pick up the remaining 8 Antique Clocks or Hidden Signs, and 4 HOP Morphing Objects. Any missed Morphs can be obtained by re-playing the HOP's in the extra's section which also allows you to achieve Gold, Silver or Bronze status and improve accuracy. After completing the BC you can access the Souvenir Room to search for 24 Souvenirs, 1 per scene.
The Collector's Edition version has 8 Wallpapers, 8 Concept Art Pictures, 8 Music Soundtracks, 12 Movie Video Cutscenes, 20 Re-playable Mini-Games, 21 Re-playable Hidden Object Scenes, Re-playable Bubble Shooter Game (the alternate HOP game) 13 Achievements to Earn, 45 Hidden Antique Clocks, 19 Morphing HOP Objects, 24 Souvenirs within the Souvenir Room, 4 Main Chapters +Bonus Chapter (miners/creature origins) and a Built-in Strategy Guide.

Phantasmat Remains of Buried Memories is the 13th game in the series and it is nothing more than a gasp at keeping a series that should have been nothing but a “Buried Memory” alive. Honestly, when will BFG or developers realize when enough is enough.

Phantasmat Remains of Buried Memories is the 13th game in the series and it is nothing more than a gasp at keeping a series that should have been nothing but a “Buried Memory” alive. Honestly, when will BFG or developers realize when enough is enough.
The game begins in an odd manner and I wasn’t sure if I had done something wrong but at least the beginning, strange as it was, is probably the best part of the game. I am not a fan of the Phantasmat series and Remains of Buried Memories reinforces why I dislike it. That being said, the best parts of the game are the HOS and the Puzzles. The HOS are excellent and creative in their presentation. My only complaint with the HOS is that some of the items are very small and blend into the background making them almost invisible. Although we have seen many of the puzzles before it is a good thing since the instructions are terrible.
Of course with a Phantasmat game I expect dark and dull graphics so the graphics in Remains of Buried Memories live up to my expectations and that is not a good thing because I hate dusty and decrepit old houses or hotels. I don’t think it was too long ago that the monster in a game was a tree-like sort of thing so here we go again.
In the end there is nothing about this Phantasmat that makes it stand out from all of the previous games in the series. The exception being that the original Phantasmat was incredible and one I still play today because, IMHO, that was a game that was hard to beat. If you love seeing tree monsters, cobwebs, spiders, and an old house in shambles then you will most likely love this game. For me the game is a definite pass and another that is going on my list of non-purchased games. Thankfully, we have had a few wonderful games to start off 2019 and those will be the ones I play. As always, please try the demo because Phantasmat Remains of Buried Memories might be perfect for you. Happy gaming! Show less

I found several puzzles to be very confusing as to what the object of them was. A couple seemed to rely on logic to figure out the object but there were a couple that I never did figure out.
