I had trouble finding all the jewel figurines, and I missed a few of them. You do get a couple of gadget but I like those in games. You have characters that talk to you, which I also like that feature. Makes one feel more 'in the game'. The art work is awesome, and the sound effects are good, too. So far there are many HO's scenes, but if you like you can switch over to Match 3. Some of the mini games are new, so far. Now I'm going to buy it, and get back to it. Good game! Show less

Lovely and beautiful to look at. I liked the relaxed puzzles like in the right order, jigsaw, matching pairs, shooting vermin eyes and rune parts matching. The gameplay can be challenging if you don't notice every detail. Like the arrow next to the light post. You need to pick up more than one items in places.
The hops are simply Lovely. You have a stain glass hops and a story box hops that is animated that I especially liked. The hops are plentiful.
The bonus chapter is about Victoria's story. (a couple from the main game). It's the middle image for play called True Love.
One thing I noticed that wasn't so great was when I would stop and write notes the owl would make sounds. Like I was taking too long. Also the leaves in the cane in the right order wasn't going my way so I looked on the guide and it has a picture of the cane but no indication how to solve it. In the bonus chapter I knew titmouse is a bird in the hops but it didn't look like one I ever seen. What looked like scissors are pinchers aka tongs in gameplay (also in the bonus chapter). I just made notes so I can play it again smoothly.
For the extras you find multiple items in just about every scene. It has very good indicators. Find 37 morphs, 30 fragments and 41 jewelry figures. The achievements are nice as you have a scene that you earn statues. The jewelry figures are owls, flowers and spiders and they are transparent, you have a scene in the extras and some look like crystal others like enamel, it's pretty. You must find all of them to access the hidden puzzle which is a hops and jigsaw that you can play over and over. The fragments when gathered tells you a few things about the story.
Replay 15 lovely hops, 16 mini-games, 25 movies and 7 music. The music has two very nice songs called fear, beauty and hatred and lake of tears. 5 chapters + bonus. 16 wallpapers, 14 concept art. I used the wallpaper with the greenhouse and fountain for a while and from the concept art I used the stain glass hops picture for a while.
I'm going to play this again! Show less

When HOPA games first came to light, I loved them all, I couldn't get enough of 'em because they kept evolving, each one was better than the one before. Developers poured their heart and soul into each new game in a series, they were downright proud of their creations, their "babies." Somewhere along the lines they just stopped caring, they got lazy, after all, people were still buying them, or maybe they just ran out of ideas. Each release became the same as the one before, nothing new, nothing exciting, just another game kinda games. Somewhere along the road, I changed too, I evolved right along with the games, no longer content with the same ole cookie-cutter versions. Nowadays, I look for something different. I look for great storylines (I'll settle for good storylines) I look for beauty and creativity, it doesn't have to knock me off of my computer chair or even blow my socks off, mostly, I want to enjoy a game without being bored to death, without feeling like I have to force myself to finish a game because I just spent hard-earned money.
With that being said, no I do not like gadgets, but I'm so glad I didn't pass this game up because of a gadget used quickly 6 times during 5 chapters! I enjoyed the beautiful graphics, I enjoyed the storyline, and Dream Box entertained me from beginning to end without boring me a single time, the entertainment was worthy of my hard-earned money.
Yes, there are two Gadgets, the first one is just a Mechanical Owl that reaches objects normally unreachable but it doesn't require any effort on the players part, the owl just appears when the zoom zone is clicked. The second Gadget is a Vermin Catcher that is used 6 times in the entire game, it isn't that bad. There is an associated Hidden Object game variation where you click on 5 orange eyes when they appear from behind items, again, it takes seconds to complete and it isn't a deal-breaker, in fact, it could have been a really awesome feature IF there were more eyes to catch AND they were more elusive! The only thing that annoyed me with this gadget was that 1 lens out of 3 would crack after every single use, super annoying and so not necessary!
There are 14 Hidden Object Scenes and 12 Zoom Zone HOP's +4 in the CE Bonus Chapter, and there is an alternate Match 3 game available if you don't like HOP's. The scenes vary with Silhouetted Shape Finds, Interactive List Finds, Swatches (find areas that match a swatch sample) Keywords in Sentence Finds, Pair Finds, Multiples of the same Item Find and a scene where you pull levers to switch scenes. As I stated earlier, there is a Gadget "Vermin Catcher" repetitive HOP where you locate 5 Eyes that slowly appear and disappear behind obstructions.
There are 26 Mini-Games +6 in the CE Bonus Chapter. There are a ton of Pair Matching tasks throughout, but they are actually tasks and not listed as mini-games or HO's. The puzzles aren't bad, but they aren't very challenging either. I don't necessarily consider that a bad thing, especially when the game itself isn't boring. Below are brief descriptions of some of my personal favorites:
❉ Place directional arrows to create a path to navigate to the park. Colored tiles require different actions, blue+must stop, red+don't stop, green=do or don't stop. დ
❉ Arrange the puppets' position using various dials, one affects others. დ
❉ Solve each puzzle by activating tiles in the correct order to fill in the lines, tiles can bump into each other. დდ
❉ Select 2 icons that when combined would logically create the bottom row of images. დ
❉ Arrange the masks so their patterns align. დდდ
The Collector's Edition Bonus Chapter, True Love, is a somewhat short chapter that takes place over 7 different scene locations. You play as Charles, (a man with a passion for gears?!?) one of the characters introduced in the final chapter of the main game. Charles discovers a letter from dearly-departed Victoria who seems to have predicted her untimely death and has vital information she needs to reveal to her beloved. There are 4 Hidden Object Scenes and 6 Mini-Games, and you'll pick up the remaining 7 Morphing Objects (which unlocks the final character statues) 9 Jewellers, and 8 Page Fragments which unlocks the final story page)
This Collector's Edition version has 16 Wallpapers, 14 Concept Art Pictures, 7 Music Soundtracks, 18 Replayable Movie Video Cutscenes, 15 Achievements, 14 Replayable Mini-Games, 11 Replayable Hidden Object Scenes, 27 Morphing Objects, 8 Character Statuettes (available with 2-4-8-11-18-22-27 Morphing Objects found) 41 Opaque Jewelry Figurines, *You can return to the scenes to search for missed jewelry after completing the Main Game* 30 Zoom Zone Page Fragments (reveals 5 story-based elaborations) 5 Main Chapters titled "Amber Trail" +Bonus Chapter titled "True Love" and a Built-in Strategy Guide/

Despite my many years of gaming experience, sometimes I simply want to relax and play games that do not stump me with huge challenges but still serve up a generous helping of HOGS and puzzles. It's always a nice bonus to have morphing and other objects to locate in all scenes: for me, there can never be too many extra gems to locate. This game also introduced some new types of puzzles, which added an extra bit of spice. When a noticed that someone gave this game a two-star review, I expected something horrible. Instead, I was pleasantly surprised to find I enjoyed the demo from start to finish. The game has beautiful graphics...with lovely tones, well-rendered characters, and particularly colorful overall because of the many amber-imbued people and items. I'm looking forward to buying this game when the price comes down a bit in a few weeks or more. In the meantime, check it out. Hope you enjoy it as much as I did. Show less

The RoF latest installment has breathed a bit of life back into this series. I don't write the long, detailed reviews as other players - that said, this game is quick and a lot of fun. You are tasked with saving a city where people and poor animals have turned into amber statues by an evil spurned woman (typical). The game sets a fast pace and is very interactive. The voices actually are quite nice for change.
If you really like puzzles, this game is packed with plenty of them - some are puzzles within puzzles, but there are also silhouettes finds, pic puzzles, and a limited number of list finds. So far there is no back and forth action between scenes so that makes it a fairly quick game. I actually happen to enjoy the back and forth, but for those that don't - here's your game.
There are jewel figurines to find, 1 - 2 per scene and are a bit hard to see so that's cool, plus paper fragments and morphs. There's an indicator that lets you know if you have found them (but not for the figurines so remember them!).
As usual, the graphics are beautiful and not heavy with the jewel colors, which I usually don't care for, but Grandma Studios isn't heavy handed with it. Overall, I decided to purchase the CE version because the game play has many scenes to justify the CE cost. A good game for any level of player. Enjoy! Show less

I enjoyed playing this game because the graphics were very well done (again, as we are used to with this devs). I was positively surprised by the turns the story took by taking away your best helpers (your uncle and your mechanical owl) already in the beginning.
The story itself is a bit simple in the way that it is told - a bit hasty in the beginning, no building up, but okay, we're here to play, right? The villain herself, however, was quite flat and predictable, showing up here and there for no apparent reason, just to threaten you a bit and hah-hah-ha-ing while disappearing again. That made not a lot a sense, really. Only in the end she suddenly showed some depth of personality.
Having said all this, I still enjoyed the gameplay itself. Nice minigames, morphing objects and jewelry art objects and scraps of paper to find - some easily found, some very well hidden. I did not mind finding new lenses for my device once and again. Then there was the bonus game: well done, good little story, for once not just a bonus game made hastily. And in the end, you can try to find all the morphing objects and jewelry art objects you missed during the game.
So yes, I am still a fan of this series. Show less

For some of us who have played a gazillion such games, the ploys may seem only more of the same, like the lens gizmo that breaks every time you use it, but overall I enjoyed the game play and will buy the game tomorrow after chores are done as a small reward for a job well done.
I recommend this game more for beginners and intermediates than for experts and veteran game players. Show less
