Normally I would not buy a game with so many puzzles, the leprechauns convinced me to give it a shot. I ended up buying the CE after the 90 minute trial...thoroughly enjoyed main game, have not yet begun the Bonus Chapter. It is just a cute little easy-going game, with nothing ugly or paranormal. The graphics were quite good and colorful, there were lots of little green-clad men running around and creating an enjoyable time away from my usual choice of games. Nothing heavy-duty here to tax my brain. There were lots of HOPs and too many puzzles. However, the puzzles were very simple and I breezed right through them. The HOPs were simplistic, too. But all were fun. Strategy Guide was unnecessary and no hints ever needed. The collectibles and morphs really easy to spot, but provided that little extra amount of fun.

I felt "Dublin" was a lighthearted game with a dash of "adventure" for a bit of added interest. Also, the ending was pretty good, IMO. All in all, not a block-buster...but a game that the kids can safely play with or without adults. Sometimes all the other stuff, complex tasks, complicated puzzles, fancy HOP scenes don't matter to me. But plain and simple do matter to me, especially during our current health crisis. This game was a nice diversion from the stress.

I have been staying away from Hidden Objects games as I was starting to find them a little boring. I saw this one and thought, ok, I'd give it a try. I played the demo and ended up buying the game. I am a little bit repetitive but because I did not want to play ghosts, blabla games (already said on Dead Reckoning) I have played the four stantards in this serie.
I have played the demo of London and did buy the game but so many uninteresting games and I choose to play the serie.
Here is my rating for the 4 games :
1. Dublin
2. Vienna
3. Munich
4. London.
What I like in the serie is to have the choice to decide if you frame someone or not, but I do not like the detective's voice :D
This one is full of Leprechaun, I love railways, I love the stories and especially this very cute monkey (such a great idea).
Not a very long game, (4 hours) but a good time.
For the other, London is too Dickens, Vienna too Phantom of the Opera (France) and I like the story Munich.
I am not lazy for evaluation but have not enough time.

Well go to see the little odd monkey, wanted !!!

Played the full CD and it was enjoyable overall. However, editors should read text carefully:

Such a decoration would be beautify any hand

Return stolen goods...should be gold

Tried to attach rope to grappling hook 4 times and had to use hint for it to work

Piano...press keys. Was confusing but eventually got it. BUT, it isn't a skip game...it's a hint game. Should be skippable!

I recommend this game!

I just don't get it! Just a few years ago, HOPA games were amazing, they were challenging, they were fun! If you don't believe me, download one of your older HOPA games that you haven't played for a few years, even better, try the game I've listed as my "current favorite" under my profile name & location to the left. That game makes you think! That game lets you travel to several locations in each chapter, which is one of the reasons it makes it more challenging!

Nowadays, the graphics are much better but the games themselves have become foolproof! It's like herding cattle through a chute, they can't go to the left, they can't go to the right, they can't go backward, they can only move in a straight line forward. Dark City: Dublin is a cattle chute kind of game, you move one scene at a time, you don't move left, you don't move right, you don't go back to the next scene until you find 2-3 items, solve a couple of tasks, and/or play a mini-game or HO scene. Push forward to the next scene, same scenario, push through the herd, next scene, next chapter, push another cow or two, shuffle forward a few more feet, repeat the process. Your brain goes on auto-pilot, you can't make a mistake, you can't do anything wrong, you can't even go in the wrong direction because the game won't let you move outside the cattle chute!

The reason the games of yesteryear were so cool was that you weren't confined to just one or two scenes, some games didn't lock any of the scenes and you would search scene after scene, searching for something you needed but missed the first time around. You had to figure things out on your own, solve complex or tricky puzzles, remember codes and clues you discovered (and try to figure out if something was a clue that would eventually be required down the road a scene or two) Morphing Objects were challenging to find because oftentimes they didn't morph the first time you stumbled upon them, collectibles weren't large and impossible to miss, (it's easy to spot collectibles when there are only a few items in every scene) and Hidden Objects were the basis of the game...they were called Hidden Object Scenes because the Objects were just that...HIDDEN or at the very least, they were blended into the scenery to trick the mind's eye!

I haven't become burned out on HOPA games, THEY have fizzled and burned out all the features that made them exciting to play. I can download an older game from my vast library (yes, I own every CE version of every HOPA game BF offers!) and still thoroughly enjoy playing them to this day! I don't want to see this genre disappear, but if the developers continue to create games that are this foolproof, fans will (and have) walk away. It's okay to offer some games for beginners, but that's such a small percentage of gamers, why wouldn't you want to cater to those who have been playing for a long time, those of us who made this genre a commodity in the first place...at least occasionally? I urge the remaining developers to go back to their roots, to play the games of yesteryear to refresh your memories of how & why this genre exploded in popularity, back to the day when developers of HOPA's were rolling in the dough$$$!!!

✩Collectibles/Morphing Objects: (CE version only)★
There are 27 Collectible Shamrock Coins and 27 Morphing Green Leprechaun Hats that are too large and easily spotted because they look so out of place in the scenes. The second you "walk" into a new scene, your eye automatically focuses on the huge, shiny gold coin with a green shamrock, the coin is always high, the hat is always low, they are impossible to miss!

⚙️Gadget/Helper⚙️
There are two Gadgets with Icons located on the Right and Left side of the Inventory Bar. The Evidence Folder on the left is used 6 times during the Main Game and 3 times during the CE Bonus Chapter. After collecting evidence, you open this folder and place each of the 4 available Character Cameos onto the correct Paragraphs located below. The photos turn into Names that fill in the blanks of the sentences...because real investigators use this method?

The second Gadget is an "all-seeing eye" Deduction, located on the right side, and is used 6 times during the Main Game and twice during the CE Bonus Chapter. Before making a deduction, you are tasked with playing a Hidden Object Scene by finding a few Listed Items in the room to either piece together a series of events that took place, and occasionally a series of events that will help you escape a situation. Neither Gadget seemed realistic or necessary for that matter and took all credibility away from the plot premise of a detective trying to solve actual crimes.

❏Hidden Object Scenes❏
There are 18 Hidden Object Scenes +5 in the CE Bonus Chapter, including a repetitive Deduction Gadget hidden object variation of finding 3-4 Listed Items in the room that either helps you piece together a series of events or helps you concoct an escape plan. The scenes are clear but not located in interesting locations and certainly not "hidden." In the event that the original scene didn't bore you to tears, they decided to make you repeat the scene for a second shot at putting you to sleep! Clearly, the developers were bored too because, by the time the third chapter rolled around, nearly all of the HO scenes were repeated a second time. The HO scenes are mostly Listed Item Finds (1-3 items may require a slight interaction, such as opening a drawer) but they also include Silhouetted Shape Finds, Finding Listed Items in Pairs, Reverse Finds (take items from the inventory & place them into the scene) Multiples of a Single Object Find, and one scene where you are tasked with finding 6 Items a squirrel eats. Unfortunately, there are no alternate puzzles offered.

♙Mini-Games♙
There are 29 Mini-Games +9 in the CE Bonus Chapter, including a repetitive Folder Clue mini-game where you drag 4 photos onto the correct paragraph clues. I gotta tell you, these are some of the most boring, simplistic puzzles ever offered in one game! The majority of puzzles are no-brainers, swap 4 books to the matching colored slots? Place 6 torn fragments into the highlighted slots? Paint with 4 colors, is the sky blue? Move screws to their matching colored slots along a given path? Rotate pipe sections? Use a magnifying glass to find 9 specified items...which btw are the only items that are highlighted in blue? Really??? I kid you not, several of the puzzles could be completed in ONE SINGLE MOVE!

✯Bonus Chapter: (CE version only)✯
Constable McDonnell has asked you to return to Dublin when a mysterious Banshee wreaks havoc throughout town. Her victims are rendered comatose and nothing seems to arouse them in this average-length, 8 scene Bonus Chapter. You will use your Folder Icon 3 times to Review Clues via a repetitive Mini-Game of dragging 4 photos to the correct paragraphs to complete the sentence, and your Deductive Icon twice to draw conclusions via a Hidden Object Scene. There are 5 Hidden Object Scenes and 9 Mini-Games (including those associated with the Gadgets mentioned above) and each scene have 1 Morphing Object and 1 Collectible. Once all morphs & collectibles have been found, they will unlock a board game to play. I'm not sure if you can return to the scene to collect any missing coins or morphing hats because I didn't miss any and you probably won't either because they are so large and look so out of place that they are easily spotted.

Dark City Dublin

Not a bad game, it has graphics comparable to most top notch games. Music is OK. There where 3 puzzles that drove me up the wall. The had poor clues and one made little sense. Other then that its a different detective type game. I would have gotten the collectors version but I went straight off the new games list with a 2 for 1 regular sale.

I've never played any of the Dark City games, but I've actually been to Dublin so I thought this might be fun because it could let me revisit a city I loved. It was... a little hard to swallow, to be honest. I get that it's a mystery, so you expect to be solving puzzles, and some of them were really neat - I liked the cipher for the list of items in the detective's luggage, for instance. On the positive side, the music is enjoyable, the voice acting is excellent, and the animation is superb. I can't fault the look or sound of the game in any way, it's all extremely well done.

Overall, this isn't a bad game. Not one that I'm likely to play again, but not a bad game at all.

(P.S. The drawing in the shoemaker's shop which claims to be of a pub is actually of the chapel royal at Dublin Castle.) Show less

This was a fun game with a nice storyline. Graphics were clear and pretty easy finding everything. My only dislike - why was there only 2 people who even sounded a bit Irish. We were suppose to be in Dublin Ireland after all lol. Relaxing game if that's what you're looking for.

I didn't play or even trial the CE version and after wading thru this demo I'm glad I did not. For starters why is it that the characters introduced into the game all talk like Americans save for a few that sound British? Next bit of mess, when the detective makes deductions they are all word for word the same as what is found by the player, such redundancy is uncalled for.
Furthermore all of the HO segments and all of the puzzles are routinely way to easy to finish. Where is the challenge?
Pennmom in her review lamented the sameness found in oh so many " new " games. Truer words cannot be spoken.

LIke so many of the veteran gamers wading thru these not at all new games, I am saving $$$ by replaying previously purchased editions that have meat on the bones. Dark City is an apt title as the game sheds absolutely no light in the PC arena. Show less

Your Blog walkthrough was a joke! It had descriptions of what to do, but no pictures. I had to Google the walkthrough to find out about the Mailbox and the Piano. If you're going to print a walkthrough please include the pictures.
