and was surprised and pleased to see another Wilderness Mosaics so soon. I love this series and hope it continues for a long time. Easter Island is a location rarely seen in games so I was eager to get started. I played only a portion of the demo so don't know if the beautiful Easter artwork pictured in the synopsis was actually used in a game or just as decoration.
Wilderness Mosaics 3 had 142 levels and 18 games, Number 4 has only 120 levels and 16 games. I was disappointed with the big difference. There are the usual tile choices, my favorites are the pearl and rough, I switch between them while playing. The glass finish is a little too bright and glossy for me to look at for very long, but it's pretty. The custom cursor works smoothly but I prefer my own smaller one. My cursor choice doesn't remain in place after exiting the game. Each time I return it has to be reset. Don't know if this problem is exclusive to my PC, but it's a minor annoyance.
The graphics are always bright and crystal clear, the colors are exceptionally pretty. Not just your basics, I love the variety and some are quite different, adding an extra punch to the image. All the images pertain to the locations and each is labeled. Sometimes I don't recognize what has emerged but once I see the label, it becomes perfectly obvious to me. Funny how that works! I enjoy the facts always included with the images. The artwork is so gorgeous and I like that the scenes are ghosted behind the puzzles, rather than seeing just a plain one-color background.
The mini-games are okay, but not enough variety. I do not like the slider puzzle, have always struggled with this style. Too frustrating and I say thank goodness for the Skip Feature. Each game shows you the next chapter of your journey. The completed images don't just vanish as in other mosaic games. View as long as you like and then just click it away.
Each puzzle starts off with 5 free mistakes. I never use hints but I do use the 2 power-ups without much guilt attached. The butterflies are earned as you play, each reveals a single cell. They are replenished as you go and are handy-dandy for those awful times with just ones and twos on the grid. I've accumulated as many as 7 of them, don't know if more are possible. The whale uncovers a 3x3 area and recharges, a bit slowly, after each use. The Hint Feature is quicker to recharge.
Wilderness Mosaics is described as a no-guessing game, solved solely by logic. However, I don't find it overly challenging which surprises me since I'm definitely no expert at this. I've not encountered any brain-busters. Some of the puzzles are quite difficult for me without the power-ups and some are far too easy. All the puzzles can be replayed and I've done plenty of that, striving for the 5 stars.
I'm pretty addicted to mosaic games and it continues to be a learning process as I sharpen my skills. I absolutely love the Wilderness Series for their top-notch quality and beauty. Lots of fun. Try the demo even if you are hesitant because it seems too difficult. I was intimidated at first but once I caught on, there was no turning back. Maybe it will be a new source of fun for you, too! PixQuake does it again, they have created another beautiful Mosaic game that appeals to animal and nature-lovers! Not only are the chosen images beautiful, but there are also some interesting features available, and for me, the challenge was perfect. Some of the levels are easily solved while other levels are a bit more challenging, so it was a nice mixture that allowed me to relax and enjoy the mosaics, I don't want all of the levels to be so challenging that I lose the relaxing zen-vibe aura.
I also loved that you create the entire scene, not just a single image, and you learn interesting facts as you go along too. The colors are really vibrant and I liked how the crossed-off cells disappear into the background to make it easier to see the grid. The only issue I have with this series is that it doesn't save your progress and for that oversight, I have deducted a star! Let's face it, everyone wants their progress saved because life is full of interruptions and we can't always finish a level!
There are 5 Tiles to choose from, Pearl, Glass, Chiseled, Soft, and Rough texture. I chose the rough texture which I don't normally do, and because of the Wilderness theme, the finished image was even better! There is also a custom cursor option as well. As I stated earlier, I love how the X'd or crossed-off cells darken & basically disappear or blend into the background because it makes everything so easy to see what's left and what still needs to be addressed. The best part is that the finished image doesn't disappear in a split second as it does on some Mosaic games, you can admire it as long as you want, then simply click on it to move on to the next puzzle. (isn't that the point?)
There is a Butterfly feature that will reveal a single cell and a Whale that reveals a 3 x 3 field on the board. You are allowed up to 5 mistakes, but that affects your overall Star-rating. There is also a Hint feature available if you get stumped, but it has to recharge before you can use it again.
For those of you who have never played a Mosaic Griddler, there are numbers on each row and column that indicate how many filled-in cells there will be, and each group of numbers must be separated by at least one empty or crossed-off cell. It's easier to fill in the larger groups of numbers first, and whenever possible the top, bottom, and sides, then cross-off cells that couldn't possibly contain a filled-in cell. You can switch between Color bubbles (located on the right side) when you get stuck which will ultimately narrow down the playing field and help you solve the puzzle.
There's always something interesting going on at my new forum and we're about to start a new group play game! If you miss chatting with fellow fishies from the Big Fish Forum days or want to join the group games then hike on over to The Woods Forum at thewoodsforum.boards.net Show less

The small squares in each of the larger squares in the grid make it hard to see the numbers in the squares. It would be a decent game except for that. I prefer a game where I don't have to squint just to see what is going on. There is no apparent need for the smaller squares, so I suggest you ditch them in the next game you release.
I don't recommend this game.
