I adore the games in this series and what these developers give us constantly. With this one..think Britons...think New Generation..and mix them up.

I adore the games in this series and what these developers give us constantly. With this one..think Britons...think New Generation..and mix them up.

It is almost an old familiar friend but a little dressed up in some areas. Not exactly new features but tweeking of some. Instead of a numbered or written strategy guide...there is 'autoplay' and they are video walkthroughs. You need to go to the extras tab...and scroll down to find them.

There is also a 'cache' guide for your hidden object that show rainbows if you mouse over them, but you must play the level first to access the 'cheat' guide. And if you do go back for them, you can't just leave..you must repeat the whole level.

It is such an enjoyable game, and in this one a bit of a laugh as the 'enemy' so far are rats..and who knew..they are destroyed by beer after you build your barracks lol !
There are the usual food, gold, wood buildings and altars, and the usual bonuses, (extra worker, speedy boots etc) that either appear on the road or on the bonus bar.

There is a relax as well as easy, hard and multiclick mode. I have learnt with this series in the past that timed easy is plenty hard enough for me...as they start off tame, and get quite difficult and you cant toggle.

So if you are a TM tragic like me you will love the quality of this game even though it takes a little getting used to what you are actually doing! My reference for games...I am grinning as I play. Do try the demo and make sure it plays, I did get a security warning I had to clear on first download? Also that it plays on your particular computer. But then..Enjoy! Show less

I have not worked out yet why we have a spaceship removing and replacing animals in the bonus levels but it does not seem to be part of the game so just a bit of humor I suppose?

I am very glad for the return of this series and at the moment minus the road building which I quite like.

We have the addition of being able to disable the green hints where you can move, which is located on the right 3 quarters up the screen below the hidden objects that accumulate when you find them.
I really like this feature, if only a certain other dev would do this. If you want this feature back then you can do so. For me it makes the game more of a challenge.
One thing to be aware of this game does provide strategy videos for each level , however If you are playing in relaxed you do not get them which I was a bit confused at to start with until joybelle2 informed me that she had these videos so I investigated further and sure enough they are in all the other modes.
The first couple of levels I found to be rather short but they do get much longer the further in to the game.
I would be a bit dubious about only having 8 extra levels for a CE if it was not for the fact that each level has a video guide.
It would still be nive though to have more bonus levels.
Try the demo, see what you think, I was not prepared to wait for the SE as I so love this series. Show less

If, like me, you loved Northern Tales and ROR, you're in for a treat! This new game is a cross between the two; the basic gameplay from ROR together with the sounds and some elements from NT. The result is an excellent hybrid that's loads of fun to play; I was smiling all the way through the first levels!

If, like me, you loved Northern Tales and ROR, you're in for a treat! This new game is a cross between the two; the basic gameplay from ROR together with the sounds and some elements from NT. The result is an excellent hybrid that's loads of fun to play; I was smiling all the way through the first levels!

Bought without even bothering to trial it, as I've bought every past ROR game and loved them all. You can choose from 4 modes of play; I started off on 'relaxed' with no timer (but no points either). The hidden objects are back but with an upgrade; there's a small panel on the right of the screen that shows you what to look for e.g. a mushroom, a Viking helmet or a flower. Starts off with 3 to look for and increases the further on you get. You are also now given the choice to have your gameplay options highlighted with a green circle (or not, if you prefer). I turned it off but you can switch it on/off during the level.

Otherwise it's basically ROR as we know and love it! The characters are larger but move slower and often 2 will work on road clearing together. The barracks are back but this time the soldier is fighting rats, with the help of a beer or 4!! I assume the beer gives him strength or perhaps just makes him feel invincible (as a lot of beer is often prone to do!!). The usual buildings need constructing, along with strange green obelisks which, for the moment, I'm puzzled as to what they do. No doubt I'll find out as the game progresses!

Lots of achievements to earn but some may feel only 8 extra levels is not enough to warrant the CE price, even with the built in SG and the 'hidden object' map. Personally I have no problem with paying the extra for this excellent little game, especially when I got an SE I wanted for free with the offer.

Absolutely no regrets buying it without the trial and I foresee many happy hours playing ROR: Portals CE :-) Show less

Best in the series. I am in my first go round, and enjoying it immensely. Each scene takes a good 15 to 20 minutes to complete so the gameplay is not over too quickly. Heartily recommend.

There's a variety of well hidden, small objects to find, you can turn of this feature in the game. You don't lose any stars for not finding all the objects, just a bit more fun or frustration...lol

Well worth a demo, definitely recommend. Show less

Beautiful graphics, old favorite characters (missing the vikings :-)), love to interact with all creatures and "village people"..Thank you again and hope there will be more - you made my weekend !!!

I was really excited to see this appear on BFG. It is one of the many time management games that I look forward to play. And, this one doesn't disappoint.

I was really excited to see this appear on BFG. It is one of the many time management games that I look forward to play. And, this one doesn't disappoint.

As any good TMG, it starts off less challenging, but boy, does it make up for it later! The hidden objects at first are easy to spot, and even in some of the later levels, but many times, I have had to resort to the strategy guide to determine where they are hidden.

The guide has videos of each level to assist if one cannot determine the correct strategy. However, on one of the levels, the video didn't help at all. At least not for the 3-4 minutes I watched. It just kept repeating the same moves without moving to the next step. Maybe that is there strategy to get the gold, but I got tired of watching. I finally just went back to the game, and figured out the correct strategy for gold status.

One of the silly things I like to do on each level is click on the animals/birds. Each will make a sound and move. There is a crab, that if clicked on, will bury itself in the sand. And, a star fish will lift up its "arms". I know I love to mention developers of these games, but to me, it is amazing all the steps and nuances when creating these games (if this, then that). Kuddos to the developers for adding the cute animals and actions :)

I find the challenge of this game to be spot on. Starts less challenging but becomes very challenging in later levels. Some are so challenging, I had to resort to the video guide after numerous attempts to figure it out the strategy (exception was the level mentioned above).

So far, I am really enjoying this game! I highly recommend it!
So, if you'll excuse me, I'm off to tackle the next level! Show less

They are also here, but you get to see what you're looking for. I sort of like that feature, because it kept me from pulling my hair out. BUT, it also take most of the challenge away. The pace is good and the story is odd, but interesting. I like that there are various play options, as I've always hated games that require a timed session. I'm lazy and like to relish the game rather than rushing through it. I have really enjoyed this one, but I'd love to see another Britons game come out as well. Try this one out for yourself. Resource management and strategy game which you can play untimed (relaxed) or via three timed modes. Each scene is lavishly detailed, with hidden objects here and there--and now they're displayed on the side so you can keep track of them more easily. Don't be lulled into complacency by the easy-peasy early levels; things will get tougher.

Graphics are so lovely, you almost wish you could dive into the screen and be a part of it all. If you click on various critters in the scene, they'll make noises--the owl is a hoot!
You can adjust sounds, music, switch to your pointer and disable tutorial. There are still a lot of familiar elements so that you're not too lost starting out.

Since I was informed earlier this year by the publisher that there are no immediate plans to develop the third season of Roman Adventures: Britons, this lovely game definitely takes the sting out of that. Have fun with this one, I know I am. Show less
