The options I chose, made it so I was not even able to finish 2 drawings in the 1 hour trial. LOVED IT!
The way they have chosen the navigation of colors and picture display is nothing less than brilliant! Seeing all the colors displayed on the bottom at once gives you a good idea of how challenging it will be and the map shows you, not only where you are on the drawing but allows you to see how much you have left and to navigate quickly from one end of the picture to the other (you can also use 'right click' as before for those who prefer)
I cannot comment on the sound track as I always play on mute.
If you like these types, do yourself a favor and try out the demo. Show less

I saw someone else complaining about lack of storyline. It is true that nobody said a single word in this game, but it is a continuation of the first game, and that one started with a short intro story: The three artists shared a studio on Earth, and received an invitation to participate in an interplanetary art competition. We saw them saying goodbye to everyone on Earth and then being sent off in a spaceship to their competition. We never got any direct description on what the competition contained, but we understand how they landed on one planet at a time, 5 in all. (Just like there are in this sequel too.) All the pictures we paint from each planet, are the pictures the artists painted, and they are describing the inhabitants of each planet, their lives and struggles, their cities, females, males, children playing, but also what dangers they face, their soldiers, and the sad disasters that sometimes happen. Each world is created so wonderfully alive and diverse, and we see (paint) scenes with adults, children, families, youngsters, going on about their daily lives. We also see - for example - how those living on the ice planet are constantly being hunted by the flying lizards/pterodactyls, we see one getting caught, we see the adult men consulting their sacred crystals to find a solution to this, and we see children playing in a pterodactyl skeleton, which means that they were able to defend themselves eventually. This is just an example from one of the worlds, but every world with its distinctive inhabitants and landscapes, told us their stories, as depicted by the artists (painted by us). And I see that this second game is a direct continuation of this - the artists are still on their journey to new planets, painting and describing the inhabitants, their cities and daily lives and everything else they find interesting about them. And this story-telling, these wonderfully developed worlds with each their stories - although without words - is so unique and interesting and fantastic, that I would give the game 5 stars just for that! Others can describe the details of the mechanics of playing this, I only wanted to add the story part to it, and how to find the stories in the pictures although there is no text. Of course I could have wanted some dialogue or descriptive texts here and there, if only as the titles of the paintings. But it still works, even if the texts are lacking. If I should point out one detail I would want the creators to change, in addition to giving us a minimum of text/dialogue, it would be that the marked cells always are in a bright yellow colour. That means that you need to wait until the end with adding the yellow-coloured crayons, otherwise you won't be able to differentiate the painted areas from the marked ones. I wish they could have an option where you can change the colour of the marked cells, in those situations where yellow is a very difficult colour to use. Apart from that, this game is perfect!! This pixel art paint game is so cool. The dev has gone all out with features/options, color technique, unique puzzle images, two game modes and a helpful little map. Everything is different than our other pixel art game and is a load of fun. It even provides challenge that is fun instead of tedious.
The bright and beautiful abundance of colors are displayed along the bottom of the screen. A great idea, so much easier to use than the color scroll because we can see all the colors at once. Each crayon disappears when the color has been completed! There are 100 levels distributed amongst 5 different planets. Each planet must be completed before moving on to the next. The 20 puzzles on each planet can be played in any order.
The developers really did a fine job when they stepped out of the box with this super creative game. I know Pennmom can describe it much better than I, but wanted to submit my 5 stars to let paint by number fans know that new ideas and creative efforts can turn dust into diamonds. This is not a lazy developer. They paid attention to the reviews and our requests led them to work on a game that has it all.
Artists of Fortune may not please everyone who loves painting games. We all have different art style preferences. But this one meets all my requirements to make me a happy artist. This is the only one other than Art By Number that I have purchased in ages. The others lost their sparkle long ago or had none to begin with. I hope other devs take notice and make some long over due changes to satisfy their fans.
Give the demo a try for something different in this fun genre. The first Artists of Fortune didn't win me over as quickly because of a couple of things I thought I didn't like. But after purchasing and playing a while longer I found it to be lots of fun. I didn't hesitate to buy today's game! Enjoy! Show less

It's just that much different than the usual paint by numbers genre that we usually have to play, that it really holds your interest...it's challenging to fill in the squares, without giving you eyestrain (and I have cataracts so that means a lot to me), the colors are just different enough from one another to make this very playable, even when they are in the same color family. Cute story line, and all around fun...Give it a try...I am pretty sure you will enjoy it! Show less

If you are a fan of the other pixel art games, prepare yourself because this series is lightyears ahead of Pixel Art! I still think it needs a few tweaks such as images where the entire scene is available versus a small image in the center of nothingness. The biggest issue, however, is that once you use any yellow crayon, the available cells shown on the map are impossible to differentiate. Perhaps giving us the option to change this color at will would solve the issue?
Other than that, I still think this series is fantastic. I love that the colors are shown as individual Crayons (# or letter specific) at the bottom of the board and once you highlight a crayon, all associated cells will appear in an easy-to-spot yellow color. Even better, there is a Map on the top right corner that shows the image and where all those yellow cells are located within the picture so you'll know exactly where the cells are located! (unless the colors are yellowish) I also love how the cells flip over as you are coloring them and that the cursor tip is a fine point to reduce accidental coloring.
The Crayons were so much more authentic versus a table with colored blocks! When you click on a crayon, a tab appears to tell you exactly how many cells are available in that specific color. When all cells are filled in, the associated crayon disappears! There are two difficulty mode options as well, a Relaxed mode, and a more like the real thing mode which doesn't protect the previously colored cells. In this mode, if you accidentally paint a cell that was already colored with a different color, the cell returns to default and the crayon will reappear, requiring you to repaint that cell...how cool is that! (again, if you don't like this feature, choose the relaxed mode!) It may be fun to mix it up a bit from game to game and change the crayons to artists' brushes with different colored tips, or perhaps tubes of paint...maybe even add a bit of texture to the filled-in cells?
Some of the cells will reward you with icons that fill the Power-ups, similar to mosaic puzzles. There is an Autofill Powerup that will automatically fill in the desired group of cells, a Rainbow Crayon Powerup that will paint the cells using any color correctly, and a Blockbuster powerup that blasts a rectangular area with the correct color.
There are 6 Chapters with 20 puzzles available, and 16 Reward Trophies to earn as well. You cannot visit another Chapter until it's unlocked, but you can choose to play any of the 20 puzzles on the current chapter in any order!

As to the puzzles themselves, they're not much fun to do and not much to look at if you struggle your way through to a finished picture. The tools are some help, but not much, and confusing to boot. I deleted the game before I was halfway through the demo.
Try it out for yourself, but it's not my cup of tea. It's not even my glass of plain water in the desert. Show less
