Golden Rails has always been on my top 10 Time Management games list and World's Fair is one of the best games in the series, with the exception of the original debut! I really love the uniqueness of the tasks that are centered around Railroad stations...it even has Bandits to chase away!

Golden Rails has always been on my top 10 Time Management games list and World's Fair is one of the best games in the series, with the exception of the original debut! I really love the uniqueness of the tasks that are centered around Railroad stations...it even has Bandits to chase away!

You can play in an Easy Mode with no timer, a Normal Mode with moderate time limits, or Hard Mode with tighter time limits. This is definitely a strategy-based game and you'll have to queue tasks strategically in order to complete the level goals within the allotted time frame to earn all 3-stars. The last several games, in this series and other games by this developer, have been a bit frustrating because they were a bit stingy with the timer on the normal mode. I felt the timer was a bit more lenient this go-round and although I've had to replay a few levels, the goals were obtainable within the allotted time...so much more enjoyable!

Although this game has the usual TM resources and tasks of collecting food and wood that are blocking various paths, chopping down trees, mining for gold or iron ore, repairing and upgrading houses, food mills, forges, sawmills, and warehouses. What sets this game apart from other TM games is the Wild West scenario of repairing Train Stations, loading & unloading cargo, repairing train tracks, guiding trains to the correct stations with switches, putting out fires, herding cattle, and even chasing away bandits!

Each scene has a hidden "Wanted" Owl (60 Total) that peeks out from behind a tree...my favorite part of the game! Normally, I would search for the owl before clicking on anything because that would start the timer, however, they changed this feature and the timer starts when you finish the conversation texts :( I found that you could just take your time to find the owl and then click replay to restart the level & timer... and you still get credit for finding the owl! You can purchase upgrades with the stars collected, and once all upgrades have been made, you'll have access to the Night Exhibition. There are also Shooting Range levels available after completing 5 levels.

This Collector's Edition version has 44 main levels and 15 CE levels, 60 Collectible Wanted Owls, 4 Wallpapers, 5 Music Soundtracks, Exhibition Upgrades, 36 Reward Trophies, and a Built-in Strategy Guide.

But after I got past those introductory levels there was some novel features making me think and keeping me very busy. One of my most enjoyable new tasks was having to actually drag settlers (at a price)..out of the saloon to make up numbers. There are also a lot of fires, and your well needs lots of visits, as it not only puts out fires..but those settlers need to go to another storage which needs top up regularly, so they can water trees to supply wood.

I also had to build a ferris wheel, which required several builds to complete and found myself in a very urban environment. I wish there were more attractions more often I must admit, but you do get to build the 'fair' with your earned stars outside gameplay.

Bonuses for discounts are automatically applied as you work through the levels. There is the shoot 'em up every ten levels, and I do find the graphics on this make me smile..kinda colorful sweet bandits lol. The collectable owls are still 'wanted', and one thing I do like about this series is you can access the level guides during play, and even then if you do miss one..you can just go back and get it..then leave.

So there is much of the same familiar stuff, repair stations, ports, buy workers, trade with merchants, cut trees etc, and I also admit I miss my Indians and their teepees, but I can't mark down for a developer who is attempting something else. I am probably sitting on 4.5 stars. The game itself is a very good quality TM. Always try the demo..but it is keeping me hooked and giving me things to think about. Enjoy! Show less

Only one level out of the first 30 really has anything to do with the World's Fair but that does not stop this from being a very enjoyable TM indeed.

You need to stay on track with this one as the first dozen or so levels are very easy and I found not much change, however when things are on fire and you need to build wells to extiguish them and build saloons to get more people then things start getting more interesting.

This time we have steam boats and trains running at the same time to compliment each other..
You can change from one mode to another at any time you wish but these are seperate games so unlike some games you can not change from one mode to the other in the same levels, but that is fine for me as I usually stay in the relaxed level.

This becomes more of a challenge and as per usual is great fun and I have been missing a decent TM..

The Indians are missing here but you have plenty to do and am enjoying it immensely.

I love the shoot up levels this time which are an improvement.

One thing I did notice is that there is not an abundance of workers this time so you need to allocate workers more carefully which I think is a good thing.

Try the demo but do bear in mind the earlier levels are fairly easy but trust me it improves Show less

I bought the standard version and could not get passed level 16 so I contacted Big Fish and they gave me game points for the game I couldnt play so I bought the Collectors Edition but guess what I got to Level 16 and I cannot get passed Level 16. I love the Golden Rails series and have been a BF customer for 15 years only since they have changed the format of the page and the way we purchase games ...Show more

I have had all the other games of this series. This one is fun and it also has new things to do. I love the river boat that goes through. I found a great challenge with the robbers and getting rid of them to accomplish what I needed to do. Love it. Keep coming. The challenge comes in the normal mode a little later but not much later. However it is there.

I recommend this game!

As you progress in the game you win handicap bonuses. You can replay any level. Has an in play tutorial (can be turned off) and guide in the settings menu. 45 regular and 15 bonus levels. 5 shooting arcades. Great for the kiddos.

I finished all levels in normal time with 3 stars along with the 5 arcades. Levels are not overwhelming. Show less

I gave 5 starts to the game as it was good. The below extras were disappointment but didn't feel to judge the game based on extras. Just putting the comments in hope that developer reads them and take into an account for the next game.
Shooting game was a huge let down, all the same shooting bandits from the train, every scene the same even the bandits appeared in the same place, nothing else to do. At least, in the previous ones you could shoot ducks and bandits and innocent civils if not careful and would have different backgrounds.
collector's edition what is this about - just a title that you charge double for it. What do you offer for it, a wallpaper?
the bonuses:
exhibition building, what was that about? it could be a fun, if there was a choice to build own version, e.g. to chose a different type of lawn, or look or colour of the building, not just clicking randomly to finish the building. Not fun at all. And awards - not just this game, many others do too, a tiny picture of whatever it is for collecting all stars, or putting 100 fires. What is the excitement about it? These type of bonuses were fun 15 years ago, move on with the technology and the times.

Apart from this and in overall, I love the game and it would be even better if those little things - bonuses were more fun. Show less

I just love the changes they have made to the game. Some of it is repetitive but I truly enjoy playing this series of games. It does make you strategize. Always fun! Please, keep them coming,
