This is a solid 4 star game for me. I love anything Victorian looking and the artwork and graphics are detailed and varied enough for me. No garish fluorescent colors, all muted, which is fine by me and seemed appropriate for the setting. This is a solid 4 star game for me. I love anything Victorian looking and the artwork and graphics are detailed and varied enough for me. No garish fluorescent colors, all muted, which is fine by me and seemed appropriate for the setting. The storyline is not developed enough so that prevents me from giving it 5 stars, but they did some interesting ways in how to obtain items that made it very fun for me. Although I consider myself an advanced player, I realize that this game would not satisfy those who insist on very hard core, challenging gaming aspects. I play to relax and don't like puzzles within my games, but I will try them to a certain degree and found those in this game to be somewhat fun although I did skip those that I have no patience with (slider puzzles). Other than that, I never used the hint button and made it through just by using the map for help. It was challenging enough for me and I liked it although it was somewhat short after I replayed it. I enjoyed it but I recommend buying it on a BOGO or similar sale price, as it might not live up to your expectations otherwise. But it looked beautiful and gave me the good time I was seeking. I would have given this game at least 4-stars if not for the fact that nearly every single task could be completed within the same scene...need an emblem to open a cache, look to the right, need a tool to open a window, just look two steps behind. I want a little bit of a challenge! Remember how fun games were like Dire Grove where you had free roam of all the scenes from beginning to end?

MORPHING OBJECTS/COLLECTIBLES: (CE version only)
There are 12 Morphing Book Collections and 20 Zoom Zone Picture Part pieces. I appreciate the Morphs so I won't complain.

HIDDEN OBJECT SCENES:
The Hidden Object Scenes are varied and what I am noticing from this developer in the last few games, is a marked improvement. I like that I'm having to actually "search" versus having a free for all clickfest! There are Listed Item Finds, Silhouetted Shape Finds, Find & Replace, Swatch Finds, Associated Item Finds, and a handful of smaller Zoom Zone HO's. There are no alternate games available in lieu of the HOs.

MINI-GAMES/PUZZLES:
I was a tad disappointed with the mini-games this time because most were just revamped puzzles we've solved in past games, over & over. Arrange books according to the clues shown, draw a line between two points as shown in the pictures, restore the image to match the page on the right, and swap bars with gems so that when overlapped there are no empty holes...just in the demo alone!

BONUS CHAPTER: (Collector's Edition version only)
Megan finds herself in another chaotic situation just one month later when the town is invaded by book characters summoned by Bertha...maybe Megan should just invest in a Kindle? There are 7 additional Mini-Games and 4 Hidden Object Scenes within just 5 scene locations. You will continue your search for the remaining 3 Morphing Book Collections and 5 Zoom Zone Puzzle Pieces. After completing the Bonus Chapter the Secret Room becomes available which allows you to search for any missing collectibles, and an Expedition Room to search for objects in a timed mode.

COLLECTOR'S EDITION EXTRAS:
5 Wallpapers, 4 Music Soundtracks, 22 Achievements, 12 Morphing Book Collections, 20 Zoom Zone Jigsaw Puzzle Pieces to assemble 4 Screensavers, Jigsaws, 12 Mini-Games & 13 Hidden Object Scenes, a Secret Room which allows you to return to the scenes to search for missed collectibles, an Expedition Room to play a Timed HO, 4 Main Chapters +Bonus Chapter, and a Built-In Strategy Guide.

I demoed the CE, there were a couple of sound issues but the SE was okay. It's an interesting plot with traveling into the literature world and meeting familiar characters.

The HOPs and puzzles were enjoyable, the demo ones were mostly easy. But that's good sometimes because it speeds it up a little. I liked the puzzles more than the HOPs for a change. According to several reviewers this is a rather short game. If true I would pass on the SE. The graphics, to me, were so-so, a little darkish, but the scenes were interesting and characters and costumes were well rendered. I love the colors and styles used in stories of olden times.

I think this game is a nice relief from all the monsters and crazies. "Dark" is not always entertaining and often generates just the same old story/new character complaint that we all have eventually and it does get boring. Today, I did finally buy the SE with the BOGO sale. Show less

i played the demo and found it "same old same old" - but i did find an alternative that i think this is a rip off - midnight mysteries - ghostwriting.

think i will play ghostwriting instead.

I don't recommend this game.
